Probably around 4hrs, I wish I could ride a couple hours a day 5-6 times a week but I have work and also train BJJ and Muay Thai also.

Keep up your fitness! I don't mean just get on your bike & ride to keep up your fitness. What I learned from Covid, and getting into surfing (because the beach was the only place close enough we could go during lockdowns) is that my body NEEDS strength training. No matter what sport I'm focusing on, specific muscles will be subject to overuse and others will lose strength and/or get compromised from under-usage. Most pro athletes these days almost do as much work in the gym as they do their chosen sport. So I have several routines, from a prehab isolation type workout, to general full body strength building, to a short & sweet "comp season" session (I don't compete a whole season anymore, so it's more like a few weeks or 'tapering' around a race etc.) As for how many hours? I generally do 2-3hrs of my chosen sport (MTB, road, surfing, hiking, XC running, ocean swimming) + an hour gym work, everyday Monday to Friday. Yes I treat it like a job! (I generally rest on weekends, because I have the luxury to do so, unless weather has stopped me during the week) Even though I'm 50, I'll die being an athlete. There's videos on YT of Schwarzenegger and other GOATs talking about why they do what they do everyday; because that's what they've done everyday all their lives. Being an athlete is something you do every day of your life, from the day you get that fire in the belly, to the day the heart stops beating.

I constantly try to prioritise riding, but my boss, my wife and my kids hate me for that 😂

Before watching the list, I'm going to guess the following: - follow a fitness regime to maintain strength - stick to a proper diet - properly maintain their bikes - properly setup their bikes [edit] I was mostly wrong. This actually took a different direction than I though. Well done.

I ride trails at least twice per week. Around 1-2hrs per time, anywhere from 10-12 miles per session. I putz around at home doinf wheelies and such. Its all just fun. I bring my bikes on camping trips, to work and ride at lunch. At age 45, i enjoy riding more than i did as a kid i think...lol.

Great video, Neil, thanks for these insights. I'm lucky enough to have paid off my house and am riding a bike for a living while I decide what to do next. That said, it's an awesome job and I have a smile on my face all day. I loved your tip of working on your weaknesses - in this job, my aerobic fitness has increased a lot and I've found that so beneficial for riding on the weekends. I get so much more from my sessions, which has been awesome. Same for fueling and hydration - I like Nutella sandwiches and snakes (or similar), along with electrolytes. Also totally agree that two wheels and two wheels - bikes are just great full stop and I'm looking at getting my motorbike licence! I loved your tip about pros getting the most from their bikes - this is something I could definitely improve and that's a confidence thing - perhaps some new videos on how to do this for different disciplines?

I only ride on the days ending with a "y". At least 45min on single track.

9:40 or you could go Danny Hart style and have a watch on your handlebars 😂

One more...pro riders have plenty of money or sponsors to spree on their rides, replacing damaged parts one after another... which common riders can't afford to.

True! Tyres are a huge one! Equipping soft compound tyres then riding a lot of transitions and doing skids hurts 😂

Useful. Might consider a coach. I’ve learnt loads from your videos but you can’t see yourself doing stuff, so you don’t know if you’re actually doing it and get you’re reality checked. Actually just started crossing which is sick hadn’t considered it might help improve my mtb riding so extra winnage.
