Great video as always! Correction : Masters ALWAYS get three actions, even if they're not leaders. Henchmen get two actions, three if they're the crew's leader (in which case you can't recruit a Master in your crew...).

Ash, thank you for the review. With Shockwave, the Mv value is actually the defensive flip that the targets must make to determine damage. So the 13 Mv is the target number for the defensive flip and not the range for the example in the book. 8” is the placement range of the marker.

My all-time favorite game, been friends with Wyrd folks since 1.5 came out. 3rd edition is a necessary progression for Malifaux. It doesn't simplify it by any means, and is mostly about reducing SKUs. But it's a better version of the game, in my opinion, based on beta and early release testing. I think it's way more tuned for tournament play than 2nd edition. Can't wait to see your reports, Ash!

I loved what i've seen but so many people, myself included are waiting on their preorders still. I ordered 1 of everything bar the core boxes and ended up with just a ressurectionist faciton pack. They really underestimated the appeal this time around so i gotta wait.

I'm waiting on them to improve their miniature production process. Some of those models' assembly is so fucking horrendous that I gave up multiple times. I want to play, but I dont' want to go to hell in a handbasket to do it.

I read shockwaves differently, i thought they didn't move, but are placed and act as pulses from that point. The "movement 13" in its description is the test the target must take to avoid taking damage..did I read this wrong?

You can cheat initiative now, so there’s no function for reflipping Initiative using stones.

I am confused... Is there a 2 player starter set for 3rd ed? Couldn't find one. Would like to get into Malifaux, but still on the fence. Nobody in my area played it. Maybe I would have to start doing demo games, but I need to get it first. Rules are a lot more streamlined, I like that. Can't wait to see batreps of 3rd ed Malifaux, Ash!

I think this game would benefit if they did have a starter set, I just looked also and hunting for gangs and leaders seems ok but not easy and odd jump in point. Starter set would have me jumping in, buying gangs for friend and I seems annoying and much more of a jumping in point than a starter set.

The rules manual is free online, the cards are available online to download/on the 3E app, and crew boxes are really cheap. Got my box for like $35.

I think they both have their place but I far prefer Malifaux as it is a much deeper rule set interaction and I like the setting. Full disclosure I’ve really gotten tired of GW lately and that likely effects my perspective of which is more fun.

If it has to be more in depth I would choose Malifaux. With the combinations of scemes you got so much more than 'some missions'. Crew building works totally different as you choose your crew depending on the scemes you choose and those you think your opponent chooses. There are a lot of synergies between the models to discover. I'd pick Kill Team for an easy to pick up skirmisher. Malifaux is easy to learn but hard to master. And the models are awesome!

Personally I would say Malifaux like someone said, they both have there place. But thematically, and having more depth, I'd choose Malifaux every time.

It’s for Army Building - anything in Faction with a shared Keyword or Versatile at normal cost; anything else in Faction at +1 cost :)

The rules and cards are free online. Give it a go. I think this is worth bringing them out for. You don't need the new models. This edition is very solid and got rid of things the game didn't really need, but kept the depth.

Am sure it's been said, but his name is Waldo. Also, as a henchman, most of us allow dead man's hand as it is per our say. I don't know many who aren't allowing them. Also, don't let salty folks try to scare any potential new players off. I've been playing since 1sr ed and this edition is very good for both new and old players. While the new sculpts can be meh, nothing says you can't buy older models and use them. I'm using granny breast Zoraida still. I know quite a few people who only got the updated cards and bought the old models.

i am not into Malifaux. In 15:30 measuring is explained. Distance + Heigth - Modelsize. But what when Modellsize is huge, like 7"? It would be 3" + 2" - 7". That wouldn't make any sence.

This isn't really a review, more an explanation or synopsis- criticism (in the proper sense of the word) and analysis would be a great addition.

No interest in this game anymore. Negating previous purchases "for the story" is lame. Don't come at me with "Dead Man's Hand." Who wants to know that using their previous purchases are at the whim of opponent and tournament? Re-jiggering which masters are with which factions (and dual-masters) seems to add to my thinking this was all just to get people to buy more models, not due to rules, play, or fluff. There's too many other, more popular skirmish games on the market now for me to want to deal with that anti-consumer behavior. GW is killing it nowadays, and Infinity might retire model ranges for SKU, but won't retire the rules. Much easier to stomach.

Keep in mind they are completely playable in games and tournaments TO allow them in and the rules for them are improved for this edition. Literally zero models are invalidated in m3e. There are rules for all of them. If you want to play the dead mans hand models in tournaments you will likely be able to do so in most of them by simply talking to the TO ahead of time. Your take doesn’t square with the reality of the game.

You can call it a soft-invalidation if you want, but it's still there. Really not interested if debating someone who can't get the facts straight.
