In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov shares with you a deadly chess opening trap to win in just 7 moves. It is a variation from the Scotch Gambit (from the Scotch Game) which happens after the following moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd4 4.Ng5.
The main idea for White is to sacrifice the knight on f7 with Nxf7 and deliver a powerful attack against the Black's king with Bc4+ followed by Qh5+, planning for a checkmate similar to that of the Scholar's Mate.
A great thing is that it works even against advanced level players (according to the statistics of games played). It works extremely well till the 2000 rating level and even some players up to the 2200 rating range fall for this trap.

I have tried numerous 'sure fire', 'deadly', 'beat better player' videos. Here's the problem, my opponent hasn't seen the same videos and so doesn't know which moves he should make to fall into those traps. My opponent is a computer and Mr. Lenovo seems to know all the things not to do.

The database of moves is strictly based on human player moves. You can't beat AI with these openings as they are obviously playing the best possible moves according to the known chess opening theories. Even Chessmaster 5000 (released in 1996) had all the known chess openings hardcoded and didn't fall into any trap...

You’ve been very lucky. These « traps » rarely works. I’m a beginner and play against players rated 400-800 and it didn’t work against none of them in 10 tries. Let alone doing this against players above 2000 or even 1000 lol.

Looked at some of these lines in opening explorer on lichess. I think it work well against those who instinctively plays h6... but a bit stronger player will chose Be7 in stead... and then its not hard to refute the Nxf7 sacrifice. Actually if they find right continuation after the line at 9:11 : (Be7, Nxf7, Kxf7, Bc4+, Ke7 (even if they play this weaker move) Qh5+, g6, Qd5+) here they can play Bb4+... witch should not be too far fetched to find, and its white witch is in trouble here... if c3, then black can play Qe7, if white grab bishop; cxb4, then Nxb4 with attack on quenn and the e pawn is gone fall with a check... perhaps Qe7 is not easy to find, yet again in that line its almost the only move. I gone try these lines in the local chess club if there is blitz games tomorrow. I think probably the 1600/1700+ rated players will refute it and smell the dangers. I think a bit stronger player will not play Ke8 either... they will see that queen can come out with check on h5.. anyway i think it will be gun to try... i started to play in club not so long ago and managed to achieve a rating og around 1500. So i will normally loose on a 1700 or higher rated player. I will report back how it goes.. not sure if i will use it on the 1900/2000 rated players.. i think they will refute it easily, but again ofc normally they beat me anyway.. so it could be worth a try.. i guess they will feel umbarased if the fall for it 😏😌🙃😕😉

I hope you’ve gotten your answer by now but after f6, you just move your knight back to f3 and you lost a tempo by moving your knight back and forth but provoked black into playing the really stupid move f6. According to the engine, the position is about equal but I would argue that white has a much more pleasant position, black can defend their pawn with bc5 but you still can get a good position because you can cut the king off from castling with bishop c4 and try and win the pawn back or gambit it with c3.

I did an experiment and tried this in every game if I played with white pieces. It took me exactly 80 blitz games to get the knight sac, bishop check and king e8 forced checkmate. So 40 ish games as white. So don't expect to get this work in every game because of course many people play different openings. I got only one other game before the succeeded 80th game where my opponent played h6 attacking the knight but after sac and bishop check he played king e7 instead of e8. After all this is pretty fun trap to try. Oh and my blitz rating has been around 800 during the run.

Great video, I officially name it the "Igor Scotch Gambit". I've only recently started studying chess, a lot from your videos, thank you.I just tested it against the Li bot, just to see how far a beginner (900 ELO) would get with it. I lost at move 26 (did make 1 blunder, but it felt solid. It seems that the bot has it programmed. I will definitely be using it in my human (no engine) rating games, as an alt to the Italian opening.

@@corylong5808 there is not compensation or weakness, black can counter attack the center with d5, the bishop in c8 has an exit, d5 is one of the best response the pairs of bishops are free for to exit, the black pieces can play ordinary knight to f6 like a traxler attack, if knight takes f7, king takes knight in f7, bishop c4 check! d5 played by black, e4xd5, to choice for black b5 or knight c6 to a5 the classic variation of traxler attack, in chess never play 2 times the same piece, after e5×d4 the white pieces plays a second time their knight in g5 and this is not good, i don't recommend this opening for white, for white there is the scotch gambit with bishop to c4, the black pieces can play bishop f8 to c5 it's the giocco pianissimo, bishop f8 to e7 is playable so, if e5 attacking knight in f6, knight can play in e4, rook to e1, d5 or bishop to d5 attacking the knight in e4, the knight can go in c5, Smirnov is a grandmaster i respect his work for the fan of chess, but i'm thinking his recommanded move is a mistake

I tried this, but as soon as I played Ng5, my opponent played d5-preventing the bishop move and leaving the knight looking silly. OK, I was playing against a program and that’s not what the plan is intended for; but it seems to me that d5 is not such a hard move to find in this situation. It helps Black to develop his pieces. The fact that it prevents Bc4 is a bonus from Black's point of view.

The move that seems to take the fun out of it is 4...f6 right? Black moves the pawn away that White wants to grab and does White have some tricks up his sleeve against it? Sure, ...f6 in itself weakens Black on the kingside, but at least he is probably not going to be mated in a couple of moves. In addition, for the time being, Black is up a pawn and White moved his knight already twice, most likely a third time, while not regaining the pawn. So after 4...f6, I guess Black should be okay weakening his kingside in view of gaining a few tempi, right?! Would be nice to hear what the trick on this move is. Otherwise it looks fantastic.

In addition to the Stockfish recommendation d5 Bxd5 Kg6, the immediate Kg6 (omitting d5 to keep the extra pawn) should refute this line pretty cleanly. The king just runs to h7, essentially castling by hand. Then Black's kingside pieces come out and there is no attack, with Black up a piece. To make matters even easier, I'd expect many club players to play Qg4+ in response to Kg6. Then after Kh7 Black threatens d5 to win even more stuff. I suppose not many players would find Kg6 or d5 followed by Kg6 in a blitz game, but blitz is about the only format where this line has a decent chance of working. I'm betting this 70% win rate comes from mostly blitz and bullet games. Don't be surprised if it fails badly when you try it in a serious game.

Just checked the lichess database. in Blitz and Bullet, under 1% of games went kg6. Even in Rapid and classical its below 10%. 96% play Ke8. So yeah, you can pretty much count in it that no one will find that.

After Ng5, if f6 is played, the trap falls apart, and White needs to play Nf3 to gain neutrality (the best outcome). Better for Black after Ng5 is Be7 where White is now in a losing position with a score of -2.2, according to Stockfish.

If f6 then you have no choice but to go back, Knight sac here doesn't work because after sacrifice, Bf4+ and Qh5+, black pawn on g7 is supported by h7 pawn thus render the sacrifice useless.

GM Smirnov, what does white do if when offering the knight F7, the king doesn't take it and just sits there and either moves the rook (because they already moved the h pawn) sacrificing the queen, or leaves the rook to be sacrificed (didn't move the h pawn yet or just prioritizes queen over rook either way) and instead moves the queen? Seems like a pretty bad moves right? So, obviously, seems like moving the queen out of harm from the knight makes the most sense of those two bad moves, otherwise why allow the knight to take the rook and not take it, right? But now, whether the rook was able to escape or not, the queen has escaped death and been activated all at the same time. Essentially, this gambit relies upon the opponent first usually moving the h pawn, then taking the knight with the king because it is generally the best move to take the knight. If black instead doesn't move the h pawn and/or moves the queen or as your video shows in the list of moves d5, then it isn't a fun time for white. I'm not really trying to shoot down this gambit, in fact, I think I'll try it more now that I've watched your video, but just asking.. what does white do if black doesn't do expected moves and doesn't take knight with the king? Either way, thanks for the interesting video!!

What happens if after White plays g5, black plays Bb4+? In the game I just played (as White), I traded off my dark square bishop. After Qh5+, g6 then Qd5 is no longer much of a threat, as black plays Qe7. Perhaps not the best position in the world for Black, but black is up a piece in compensation.

What if after Bf7 and Bc4 black plays Kf8? There seems to be no good follow up attack and black fortifies with moves like Kf6 easily

7:08 pawn d5 is easy to find... played a rated 700 guy who did that, then Be6 which is almost as winning for black.
