Excellent close-up look, excellent commentary, showing us all the likely possible moves, then the one chosen, love it!

Excellent series and excellent technique - many thanks for taking the time to produce this terrific series. I’m confused by one rule interpretation. At 27:44, could you not have proceeded with your plan to move the 82nd BD unit from hex 4715 to 4716? Doesn’t the last sentence of 7.2 “ZOC and Movement ” and the illustration below it allow moving directly from one ZOC to another as long as the moving unit doesn’t cross a ZOC Bond?

Also I am curious why you didnt attack more unknow units in the movement phase. They are typically 0s and the best are only strength 2s so with a shift for elite and green most attacks would have been 3 or 4 to 1 at the worst.

Really enjoying watching your game. Very helpful intro on the rules and then a detailed explanation of your moves. Looking forward to the follow up videos. I would note that vehicle type units do not double defense in towns or cities. The 88mm flak unit in Son is a vehicle type unit so the defense should have 2 not 4.

Thanks. Yes I got that wrong in a few places in the playthrough.

No worries. This aar is excellent. For turn 1 only the artillery units for 30 corps get 2 shifts each not 1 for barrages. Due to pre-planned heavy bombardment. The extended example of play in the rulebook notes a lot of a good points and is well worth a careful read.

Ooh. Missed that one. Good catch.

I think the attack at 44 min in should have been 7-1 by the 30XXX tanks as the 30XXX artillery provides 2 sifts each on the first turn only.

LHMG LHMG Yeah I did miss that one.

Isnt the full retreat 3 hexes and cant you continue to do breakthrough attacks if DMR or DS is rolled.
@TheBlueTweezers5 жыл бұрын
LHMG LHMG I checked the rule book as the replay was some time ago and 13.1.1 says 2 or 3 hexes (defenders choice) retreat on DS or DMR and 16.3.2 says only one breakthrough combat allowed.

Yes, I may be confusing Ardennes 44 rules with these rules.

Rule 15.3 Advance in Any Direction is an interesting one. You're not required to first take the vacated enemy hex, de rigeur in most wargames. The lone exception is if you attack across a Major River (which makes total sense). I noticed you deftly used advances to send victorious airborne forces off on perimeter guard duty...
@TheBlueTweezers6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, kind of bouncing off good combats seems the way to go. As long as you don't hit an exchange or a determined defence. Advance and retreat seem the most nuanced parts of the system. Much more involved than ordinary combat.

Seems you're loathe to use advances to cut off the retreat of enemy units slated for other combats yet to come. I found myself at a few junctures yelling at my TV for you to do so. :) In another area, the Grave bridge, you seemed to not see that a German unit could not retreat across a major river, simplifying your positioning to cut off his retreat as well. Still, enjoying the preview of this game, as my copy sits, still in shrink, scant feet away... carry on, then! :)

Getting someone to yell at their screen over a game replay! Must be doing something right - or wrong. At the Grave bridge the Flak unit can't retreat anyway as it doesn't have a movement factor.

:D Good point; those 88s tend to be fairly stationary once you get 'em set up.... And, you're doing things mostly *right*... if I can get involved enough to care, you're on the right track!

Your investment is valuable, kind sir. Some of the 88's move. One becomes a real pain.

Hi there. I can't find a reference to the size of the counters on the official site or on BGG. Are these "full size" counters or the small ones that are used more and more now?
@sotall6506 жыл бұрын
They are the smaller 3/8th inch counters that GMT uses.
