These are really hard to get right. Many might wonder why we wouldn’t lace the crack up. It comes down to addressing first things first. If we can get the horse a balanced trim, many times cracks solve themselves. Enjoy!

It would be interesting to see how he walked off after all four were trimmed. I have personally witnessed how much even the hairline will drop when the quarters are rasped a little bit extra to allow the collateral cartilages to relax down. We walked the horse and the gap had disappeared, so I rasped some more and that dropped down too after a couple laps around the lot. I did that several times. Over the next couple months of touch ups, the hairline leveled out and the hoof wall reflected that. Hope that heel drops as dramatically as well.

I know this may sound absolutely insane. I love watching these beautiful creatures being cared for by your school. However, I just found the background noise to be very soothing. You should do an asmr video like so many channels have of just the background noise for hours. The filing, hammering, etc.

Very GOOD shoeing. My 24 yr old line bred Hank Wiescamp Skipper W has been corrected trimmed and shoed his whole life and you wouldn't know he was pigeon toed. But if you left him barefoot untrimmed over 6 months his feet would revert back. He has been the soundest horse ive ever owned. Never had thrush a day in his life. He's been wearing Natural Balance shoes throughout 2024 and did very nicely. He's palomino, light colored hooves are hard as a rock. Great job shoeing! A few more shoeings will definitely straighten those feet out. He'll ride just fine.

@@Placard1203 Interesting, because I’ve had the opposite experience with white hooves. I’ve found them to be soft and crumbly. I had one horse with white feet on the front and black on the back. The difference in hoof texture and hardness was 180º. Sounds like you have a nice horse. All the best to you!

Thank you for helping this horse. I don't understand why some horse owners don't have their horses feet properly tended to on a regular basis by a farrier. I consider it abuse for those that don't. Horses need their feet regularly tended by a farrier.

This horse might have hit its hoof on something or stepped on something (referring to the hoof with the crack) because if you look at the other 3 hooves, they don’t look that long. Also there are people who buy animals, just because they look neat or beautiful or cute, even though these individuals have no idea how to properly take care of these animals (this goes for an animal, not just horses.)

I have a serious question for a horse that is that clubfooted. I had an Appaloosa mare who was so much worse in her club footedness. In less than four weeks she would wear her front shoes in half, the outside of the shoe would be gone and she would have half a shoe left on her foot. When she was 15 years old I finally found an old school farrier that told me I would be able to reset shoes on her and that she would stay sound. He trimmed her level exactly like you did to this horse, however he rolled the toe and what he did is more than what I see in any conventional farrier work these days. He squared off the front of her toe and took the toe of the shoe and bent it up around the front of her foot to give her a straight break over and that Horse never took a lame step in her life. She never had arthritis and was still sound 28 years old and spent the first 15 years of her life so pigeon toed that it was crazy. She was used as a schooling horse and hippo therapy horse the last 8 years of her life.

@scmarshtacky15 күн бұрын
Most hoof bacteria are anaerobic, so once you clean away the area and expose it to air, the bacteria dies off on its own. Cleaning out a horse's foot even once every week would have helped tremendously to prevent this from happening.

Many people have problems to come up like injuries on the job. It causes neglect due to horses being a 1 person hobby/job. Just last year a horse logger had a wreck and broke his leg is just 1 example.
@amyb.636814 күн бұрын
The severe pigeon-toeing also meant this horse probably needed some specialist care. An average owner might not have known that was a defect, let alone what to do about it.

I have a question. I know nothing about horses. I am new to this channel. I watch for pure entertainment. Do some horses fight the shoeing and hoof trim, every step of the way. Do some let you do about anything you need to do and get back to the feed bag.. lol. This horse looked like it may be in pain. And an animal of that size could hurt someone with no issue at all. If that horse want too. I think that safety toed shoes would be a must. Thank you for what you do. Peace be with you.
@Sine-gl9ly15 күн бұрын
It is not difficult to train a horse to be patient and docile when being shod; it doesn't - or at least shouldn't - hurt them in any way. Young, untrained or unhandled horses need to have someone handle them every day - their head, feet, legs, tailfeet and legs - all over, on a regular, daily basis. Animals that have undergone abusive treatment well be different of course, and there may be other reasons a horse rebels - physical or psychological. Sedation is an option, but is _really_ not a safe practice for repeated use, as well as being extra expensive. Patience will succeed where other, more forcible methods WILL fail. An understanding by the handler of horse body language always helps, as do calm, confident horsey companions to 'set an example' to thoss who are afraid. Very, _very_ few horses will hurt you deliberately. It's simply not something they do. However, as you say, they are large animals and thus may well hurt you purely accidentally, usually through fear or panic - what they think of as 'self-protection' may well result in danger to themselves and those near to them. Again, a good understanding of horse body language, as well as knowledge of the sort of situations which might upset a horse, is needed.
@isabellepanza567914 күн бұрын
Most domestic horses have their feet trimmed or at least handled by a farrier every 6-8 weeks, starting as foals. They should have their feet 'picked' or cleaned out once a day. They're used to this. Of course, there are always exceptions as mentioned in @Sine-gl9ly's comment.

Is it true that white hooves are more prone to problems?
@amyb.636814 күн бұрын
Not really. No more than cats with white paws vs. cats with dark paws. It's a difference in pigment, not structural. That said, there might be horse breeds that more often have white hooves AND also more often have hoof problems. A coincidence rather than a cause.

I have always loved horses with white hooves, but after watching a lot of farrier videos, I realized that horses with white hooves have so many problems with their feet. So when I go to get my first horse if ever I will look for black hooves.
@Alexandradammit14 күн бұрын
You can look up studies where they tested the strength, and examined faults of black vs white hooves on horses. The conclusion is that they are the same strength. It's easier to see discoloration and injury in a lighter colored hoof. Even on this horse, he has a long scar on the black foot too. Does a palomino or gray have weaker hair or skin because it has less pigment?
