I've always thought that the reason Manaphy's eggs hatch into Phione is because the eggs are created at surface level. In order to get another Manaphy the egg would have to be conceived and develop in the deep sea, just like the one Manaphy egg we actually see that washes ashore and is found by a pokemon ranger. This would explain why Phione is basically just a stunted Manaphy in appearance, stats, and movepool. Its growth is stunted because the egg started off in a vastly different environment. Kinda like how there are reptiles that hatch as male or female depending on the temperature the eggs are kept at.

@@GcorpCoPrez Unfortunately Manaphy eggs literally can't hatch in any of the ranger regions because they need to either be on the seafloor, according to the Pokédex, or with a trainer to hatch. It is a likely theory that the ranger seas are the perfect conditions needed to lay Manaphy eggs instead of Phione eggs though, especially since the Pokédex says they "swim great distances to return to the place of their birth" like salmon.

I always kind of felt Arceus made mew with the intention of allowing it to co-create Pokemon. Mew is in tune with nature, or at least some places like the Lucario movie where it has a symbiotic relationship with the tree rock thing, so mew became a creater of form while Arceus was giver of power. Arceus is all types, but mew can shape shift, so mew decides the best physical attributes to fit into a niche in a biome, Arceus grants it it's typing. Mating is just the format used to pass into Pokemon so they can populate on their own to some extent

Actually, I think it’s the opposite. Arceus probably created all of the legendaries (especially the world building ones like the Weather Trio and the Golems) and then after the world was made, Mews were put on earth to make the Non-Mythical/Legendary Pokemon. We can use Pokeballs as a standard for "Is it a pokemon?" and because artificial pokemon can go into poke balls we can assume they were designed specifically for Pokeballs to be used on them, besides, a lot of man-made pokemon are modifications of extinct pokemon. As for the second question, the main evidence for that theory is a book of folk tales, not a book about a DNA study done by a pokemon geneticist. The other evidence is Sabrina, and given Ash takes everything that gets thrown at Ash-Greninja pretty easily, (you, know like the second DIantha battle and the Alain battle!) we can infer that humans in pokemon have some pretty extraordinary properties. Besides, we know for a fact that there are people who can manipulate Aura, which is more or less the Pokemon equivalent of the Force.

Serious theory: My thoughts are that Arceus was born from the egg and Mew was created from the remains of the egg. (Therefore Arceus is the “first” Pokémon yet Mew is still the “ancestor” of all) Arceus creates the Universe and designs different Pokémon to uphold different aspects but needs Mews power over life to make them live. Mew didn’t change into other Pokémon instead providing the necessary components for life to begin. Some legendaries are unique like Dialga/Giratina Kyogre/Groudon because they stand for a very important concept or it would be catastrophic for more than one to have that power. Other legendaries had smaller roles like fire or lightning and therefore there were more of them. But their lifespans were much longer than humans so there aren’t as many needed. Eventually creatures that didn’t have such monumental power came along and over the eons naturally changed into the Pokémon we know.

Mew in turn created Regigigas to form the Earth (Who in turn creates the Regi's) Mew then creates Celebi to create the Earths timeline, while Celebi in turn creates Uxie (Knowledge), Mesprit (Emotion) and Azelf (Willpower) and those three create Victini (Destiny) and Jirachi (Wishmaker). Thats basically the end of that branch Mew then creates Kyogre and Groudon to expand the Seas and the Continents and Rayquaza, who watches over them Kyogre creates Lugia, Rayquaza creates Ho-Oh and Groudon creates Heatran. I got a counter theory to your Mew problem. I think that Mew might have followed the same method of how life started on Earth, from single cell organisms, in this case, single pokemon organisms, into complex life. Run with me on this one, what if Mew was a giant pokemon, like really huge and it didnt reproduce sexually like we tend to think of. What if mew then gave up most of its body mass to create early proto-pokemon, like that matter was ejected and it mutated into pokemon. This would allow mew to create pokemon without needing a mating partner, in a similar way to how single cell organisms billions of years ago reproduced asexually before a mutation showed up that allowed for daughter cells to do it with a binary sexes. In our history, the purpose of multiple sexes was to increase the genetic diversity of living matter and, consequently, create subsets of species. So esseitally, what im saying is that Mew, the rather large pokemon originally, split its body into many pieces and scattered them across the world, only keeping what would be considered its brain (the part we call Mew). Those pieces landed in various regions and areas and quickly mutated to fit the niche that they are currently found it. To add to the consipiracy pot, all of those pieces were Dittos that transformed and just kept the form that suited them best and over generations of birthing, those forms stuck around until they could not transform back, becoming a permanent species. Now with my mad scientist hat on, i can say that if you took all pokemon DNA and refused them into one organism, you could, theoretically, rebuild a Mew from its resulted mutations, this would be Mew Three. That would be fun huh. Im not incredibly with pokemon lore, but i thought this would really fit in with a lot of the descriptions placed on certain poke-species.

I'm only halfway through the video, but my theory is this: After Arceus's first batch of creations, Mew went on to become the parent/ancestor of every other pokemon afterwards. Sort of like Adam being created by God and then going on to create the rest of humanity. The first few generations would've had the most power inherited directly from Mew and therefore would be later classified as Legendary or Mythical pokemon. Edit: wow.... My Timeline Arceus created Mew, Palkia, Dialga and Giratina Palkia and Dialga - create the Universe and Earth. Mew creates Regigigas to form said Earth. Regigigas creates the Regi's. Mew creates Kyogre (Ability to expand/create seas), Groudon (Expand/Create continents after Regigigas formed the Earth) and Rayquaza, to be the leader and keep Kyogre and Groudon in check. Mew creates Celebi to create the Earths timeline Celebi creates Uxie (Knowledge), Mesprit (Emotion), Azelf (Willpower). Those three create Jirachi (Wishmaker) and Victini (Destiny). I personally believe that arceus created the creation trio, lake guardians and Mew first, then created Groudon and Kyogre to diversify earth's landscape (instead of leaving it as a giant hunk of rock), then Rayquaza to create the atmosphere so living creatures could remain, well, living and stop the fights of the other 2 in its trio. I also believe that Mew is the ancestor to all pokemon, but not like how you explained it. My theory is that all pokemon except Legendary and Mythical pokemon were made in the same way you explained it, via Mew's reproduction. However, I think other legendary pokemon were Mew that never reproduced further, like if a Mew family line turned into a Ho-Oh, the final, fully formed Ho-Oh in the family line would just decide that it didn't want to reproduce, and since its genes aren't in any other pokemon, it is the only fully formed Ho-Oh in existence. You may argue that it would die, but Legendary Pokemon are supposed to be immortal. Your explanation is still really good though.

Mew can learn Transform.. So my guess is that the original Mews might've just transformed into a variety of shapes and abilities. The children of wich could not transform. Similar to Mewtwo . Though in Mewtwo's case it might just be the genetic tinkering it endured. Maybe Ditto is just the natural/original shape a Mew has. But since they can't transform from memory, they maybe also just can't hold their transformation passively as Mew can.

The way that I like to think about this Theory is a bit of an odd one... Arceus was once an egg Arceus formed the universe Created the creation trio Now, this requires subscription to the theory that “the 1,000 arms Arceus created the universe with were Unown” which would mean that Arceus only ever created things with the assistance of the Unown, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, the lake trio, all byproduct of the cooperation of Unown and Arceus, however, where did the egg and the Unown come from? If Mew truly is the original creator, than it makes sense why Unown are also psychic types, which psychic has more links with creation in Pokémon than anything else (Solgaleo and Lunala much?) This also has a little bit of backing in that in the games the only way to be able to use every move is metronome, and yet in the anime Mew never uses metronome, it just attacks, so Metronome in Mew’s moveset moreso personifies Mew predating all other Pokémon, this making it capable of using all moves of every Pokémon below it.

Worth noting that according to the japanese version of red/blue version, Mew doesn't lay eggs. They explicitly give birth to live young. In the English version mewtwo is a clone made from extracted mew DNA, while in the japanese version he was a mew fetus/infant that they experimented on to try and improve this baby mew's combat ability.

There is only 1 mew though, so it can't really "get it on" with anyone else in those ancient times unless it was with arceus or the others he created. I think it's more likely that mew naturally clones itself whenever it lays an egg and that egg's dna would be affected by the environment it developed in, allowing for specific typing, so you'd end up with a bunch of water mews that would eventually evolve into manaphy and the other water pokemon as the "legendary genetics" start to dilute. The legendaries we see just happen to be where the genetic chain is more directly traceable back to mew.

Maybe there's only one Mew NOW. It could be that there were only a finite amount of Mew created by Arceus, with the purpose of evolving into other, more specialized races. The Mew that is left could be seen as a "missing link" situation, like Bigfoot or Homo Erectus. But the theory you bring up is also interesting. The earliest Pokemon still had a spark of divinity from Arceus that faded with further specialization into the more mundane species.

What if it wasn't like that? Arceus could very easily have created mew as a copy of himself and then modified it so it could be used as a blueprint. Just like it's easier to do something modifying something you already did (for instance, in a lot of games code is reused for the sequels), then Arceus could have begun by creating mew and from him other pokemon. That'd explain why mew can learn every move, since from he were all other pokemon built. This theory would also give the legendary pokemon a reason to be so powerful and important, because they were created to do an specific role in the world, while the other pokemon followed a more normal evolution path.

My assumption with the original three Legendary Birds was always that they were mutations of other already existing bird pokemon species. Look at Articuno compared to Pigeot; they are basically the same pokemon visually, just one has some elemental traits added to it. Same with Moltres and Fearow. The majority of modern science and mathematics trace their roots to religious thinkers who were willing to experiment. In truth, the biggest issue that often comes up as a disparity between religion and science is on the topic of origins (every bit of it). On this subject, I ultimately don't care because we can't definitively prove anything until we can travel or view things back in time. Interestingly enough, this is reflected in Pokemon in that it uses a hybrid of both Intelligent Design and Macro Evolution (the drastic shifts of biology over millions of years; Micro Evolution is the alternate term for Natural Selection [this is more for others reading it, I'm certain you already know this]). This, honestly, is really neat. I love how this franchise has gone "why not both?" and kept with it. Now, if only more franchises were willing to make those design choices instead of going "never these two shall meet." It may be difficult (in modern day) to get religion and science to play nice with one another institutionally, but that isn't the case with fiction. The exploration of "what ifs" is infinite. Let's enjoy the ride together :D
