Shiny Pokemon are ugly, shiny pokemon are beautiful, shiny pokemon are pretty, shiny pokemon are cool. Whatever you think, I'm sure we all agree that gen 1 shiny pokemon are.... different. So How do shiny pokemon work? Why are they the colors that they are? is there any reason? Why is shiny gyarados red? why is shiny charizard black? Why is shiny mewtwo green? Why is whiny mew blue? Shiny eevee is albino? Shiny Scyther is more accurate? What?

I’ve heard a pretty good “explanation” for the Gen 1 Eeveelution’s shinies. All the Eeveelutions represent a specific color on the spectrum (Vaporeon is blue, it’s shiny is purple; Jolteon is yellow, it’s shiny is green; Flareon is red, it’s shiny is orange). Shiny Eevee is white because white light is every color mixed together.

It's obvious what Gamefreak should do now. Remake the Before-Generation-6-Shinys! Make them have Meaning, give them a choosen Design instead of Randomness that many times looks awful as Heck! If I could throw a thought out there-- Now that I think about. The story was something about Team Rocket forcing the Magikarp to evolve, if I remember correctly. Red Gyrados could be a symbol of a regular red Magikarp being forced to evolve prematurely, so it still has its red color.

Actually, rapidash's grey flame makes sense :D! There is such a thing as grey fire, which is actually so cold that it's hot. It can only be produced (from what I'm aware of) and recreated in a lab only, and is extremely hard to reproduce (again, from what I remember reading)

The original ones were yellow, red and blue respectively, which are the primary colors, and when they turn shiny, they become the secondary color their original color was the most resembling to (Purple resembles blue the most, light green resembles yellow the must and orange resembles red the most) So yeah, ta da, that's my theory

Arcanine and ninetales were likely chosen shinies as arcanine was a gold exclusive whereas ninetales was a silver exclusive. Also the machamp line may be green for orcs.

I've done a lot of digging and cant find any specifics. There being an algorithm is technically speculation too. but it does make sense, because all pokemon that are the same color, (all those brown birds) wind up having their shines all match too. (yellowgreenish hue). And then the pink that Jigglypuff is, is the same pink as Clefairy, and that pink doesnt change. (there is no "suitable color" in the code to turn it into).

im pretty sure theres a bunch of default palettes with a small amount of colors each and the shiny is the next palette in the list. so after the brown palette is the sickly green palette. After one of the pink palettes there's the blue palette.

I remember an old video stating their opinion about the shiny colors of Ninetails and Arcanine, and I would like to leave it here: In Gold and Silver (the introduction of Shiny Pokémon), the two fire types were version-exclusive counterparts. Considering this and their similarities (fire stone, similar animal origin, two-stage evo. line, etc.), it is fair to believe the colors are representative of the duality of the two games. My headcanon is that so many of them are green/greenish yellow/black because the original gameboy was in green and black. The jump to the gameboy color gave all pokemon a unique color scheme, so gen 1 pokemon get to revert to their classic green "colorless" version.

The explanation for Victreebel is that, When viewed under UV light, pitcher plants glow (usually blue but sometimes green) to mimic flowers which also glow under UV to attract and guide pollinators to the nectar and more importantly pollen. A good correlation you can make about Nidoqueen is that since it's a mother who takes care of her young, her body can somewhat camouflage with grasslands. With he body being able to camouflage, she can cover her young while keeping them close. Of course it doesn't make much sense since regular Nidoqueen doesn't match their surroundings, but you could make a debate that the regular Nidoqueen cover her young regardless and their color signifies she is poisonous, which scare predators, and Shiny Nidoqueen camouflages, which predators ignore

If i remember correctly, Shiny Gyarados is red because the free one in G/S/C/HG/SS is a Magikarp that evolved early due to the Lake of Rage. Hence it kept the red coloration.

Magnemite was also redesigned like charizard so it has been deliberately designed because it was pretty much the same colour as normal Magnemite is today. Also for Sandslash red sand exists. so being a ground type it's spikes must be sandstone.

Actually . . . in a sense. In R/B/G/Y, shiny Pokémon don't really exist, but when transferred to G/S/C, any Pokémon with Determinant Values (or DVs) within a few specific parameters will turn shiny upon arriving. Same with R/B/Y in the eShop transferring to Sun/Moon, but the calculations change slightly.

I think Mew was intentionally tampered with to justify it's look at the beginning of the opening theme song in gen1 Pokemon. It was blue when the show began so they just made it the shiny variant.
