Gnolls are fascinating humanoids born of the demon lord Yeenoghu’s influence. Gnolls are cannibals that receive an upgrade to their mortal form if they stuff themselves with enough MEAT! Gnolls travel in warbands that range in size from 8 to 60 members and spend the majority of their lives pillaging unprotected or less-protected areas.

Gnolls and gnoll-adjacent monsters are great ones to build an entire campaign around even in urban fantasy settings.

The gnolls backstory is pretty interesting, though, I'm surprised they don't have any abilities involving laughter considering they're hyenas.

I honestly really like Gnoll’s, though that might be because of the really interesting variants of them in some non official game books. (“Ultimate Bestiary: Revenge of the Horde”, and “Grim Hollow: Monster Grimore”) I don’t like how they are yet another creation of a abyss demon, but that’s my gripe with some of my other favorite monsters. I have seen a couple ideas to make Gnolls a playable monster race, such as a Gnoll pup being adopted after its tribe is wiped out and raised away of other Gnoll influence.

I definitely subscribe to the mentality that nurture has a huge impact on one's nature. A gnoll PC could make for some very interesting roleplay, especially if consuming corpses granted the PC temporary powers that incentivized that behavior, but punished it by making the PC more susceptible to "demonic" urges.

@@CL30 Yeah I agree, and I like your idea for a risk and reward system for a Gnoll PC if they eat corpses.

I actually wrote a huge thing of homebrew gnoll lore (heavy inspiration from Eberron and non 5E - I just loathe the 5e gnoll lore). I can share.

I feel a gnoll should be a pc race

I seem to recall there is something in Wayfarer's Guide to Eberron that allows one to make a gnoll player character, but I could be mistaken.
