Yeah, when I watched Dick Clark's Rocking NYE in 2000, it was live music. Maybe the producers changed the format after all those 90's bands started lampooning the whole miming routine?

@@FireMinstrel shows still using backing tracks unfortunately. The last Billboards show the Go-Go’s were on they told the producers they play live. They were the only band live that night
