Not enough credit given to these women, in regards to their place in rock music history and, especially, progress for women. A mainstream, major-hit, all-woman band that wrote *and* performed their own songs was not all that common in the early '80s. It was exciting to me as a 10-year-old girl in 1982 to see a band like this! Rock on...!

Glad they are in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame! Well deserved! When they started it was unheard of an all female band who wrote their own song and music and played and sang their lyrics! Still playing today 45 years later! And oh that Belinda Carlisle! Had my heart as a kid in the 1980's and was just as great if not greater as a solo act! Well done Girls! ❤🔥

This aired on TV on January 16th 1982 - the day after my 11th birthday. I fell in love with The Go Go's immediately and went and bought their album that same week. In August we saw them in concert in Vancouver BC Canada. Still one of my favorite albums of all time 30 years later ! It is episode 17 of season 2 of Solid Gold.

This was from the year end countdown show. BUT Solid Gold would use previous performances and have a host reintroduce them. In this case Solid Gold had gone through a change in the male host as Andy Gibb had been fired for his drug usage and Rex Smith was hired to replace him.

It's funny you should say that cause I always said that obviously this is their trademark song but that point at 2:15 you could not imagine any other singer in history who could ever belt that out like Belinda did! She truly had/has a classic voice and the reason the Go Go's are in the Hall of Fane is in large part due to her beauty and singing ability! Not to take anything away from the band cause they wrote their own music and lyrics and performed it and that right there is as talented as it gets and by females no less! But take Belinda out of the mix and they aren't half the band they would be with her. 🎶🎶Jump Back Hit Ground Round And Round And Round🎶🎶 The words that sent the Go Go's to stardom belted out and forever lives on by The Beautiful & Talented Belinda Carlisle!

I don't know what made me watch a video of the Go Go's all of a sudden but I did and instantly my mind raced back to the 80's! Memories of my sister listening to their album over and over, video game arcades, school dances, working 40 hours a week washing dishes WHILE going to school and never being tired, being amazed at the graphics on 8 bit computer games, youth, fun!

I heard that all the singers and bands that appeared on Solid Gold, all lip sync their acts the show wouldn't pay them their concert pay if they actually sang, plus not to mention having to set up all of their equipment in between acts. Regardless if they actually sang or lip sync, the Go Go's always gave a good performance. I remember that this was actually the very first time that I had ever seen the Go Go's and fell in love with them, the very next day I ran out and bought their album and have been a fan ever since. This was also the original version of We Got The Beat when their album Beauty and the Beat was first released, until IRS Records re-released more albums and put the single version on the new releases. I like this version much better then the single.

On this day in 1982 {January 23rd} the Go-Go's performed "We Got The Beat" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand' One week later on January 30th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #2 {for 3 weeks} and spent 19 weeks on the Top 100 It reached #3 on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart and #29 on the Australian ARIA Singles chart The three weeks it was at #2; the #1 record was "I Love Rock and Roll" by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts R.I.P. I have too say that I like this version of We Got The Beat much better then the single mix, but I can't find this version any where.. I remember seeing the Go-Go's for the very first time on this show and it was the first time that I heard this song and became a fan. I rushed out the next day and bought the album.
