@@ChrisfromKeyfarm Drop by the auto parts store and tell them your is sounding strange LOL. Maybe even put an alternator on it to charge the battery. I'd like to see more people using lawn mower engines in cars as daily grocery getters. I mean like cost of gas tells it all. And then for somebody that needs an engine rebuilt, do you really need to do 60 in 3 seconds? You pretty well got it all explained. I noticed in one video you had a little problem with oil in the clutch. have you considered replacing the clutch with a spring loaded belt tensioner hooked up to the clutch peddle. maybe a way to lock it released for starting by rope start. Just a thought. Keep u8p the good work and ill be watching for the town trip.

How are you engaging the transmission since there is no clutch? This video was abundantly clear you just shoved it in gear, and when you gave it gas it took off. Is there a centrifugal clutch built into the back of the engine or how are you doing this? I'm planning to do something like this with a Bronco or F150 4x4 to tow my gin-pole crane trailer around my property and hatched the idea tonight. Been watching several of your videos like this one and of the Mazda but still stumped! Thanks! I subscribed.

Yes, there is a centrifugal clutch on the engine. Some of the other videos show it , you can see it best on the tractor videos. Thanks for watching. Of all of these contraptions, the cars performance is the best.

There are plenty of Smarts with broken engine (here in Canada with the 3 cyl diesel) which can be obtained for cheap. Wonder if I could replace the Manumatic ( kind of hydrolic solenoid who activate the clutch ) by a clutch pedal , so I could use the Smart gearbox driven by a GX clone of 18 hp on top of it ...any Smarts expert here?

The eye of the clutch disc is welded to the 1" coupler , then the coupler attaches to a 1" shaft. This one has a 14 tooth clutch and I think a 34 tooth sprocket on the 1" shaft

Hello.... Up to 8 hp engines will use a 6:1 gear ratio via a S & S engine drive clutch or 30 series torque convertor on all go karts & mini bikes with a maximum of 400 lbs of vehicle occupant weight, and a gross vehicle weight of 150 lbs for a two seat go kart or mini bike with tires up to a maximum of 13" diameter with a stock Predator 212 CC engine. This combination has a proven speed rating @ 3600 RPM based on the diameter of your tire measured from the slab to the center of your axle multiplied by 2. If you exceed any of these ratings of the vehicle, or the passenger weight, or the maximum 13" wheel diameter. Then a 30 series torque convertor must be used or clutch damage will occur. S & S "Six Spring" Clutch @ 3600 RPM Uses a 1:6 rule. Use 1 Clutch tooth for every 6 Sprocket teeth and a Gross Maximum Vehicle plus Passenger Rating of 550 lbs, and a Maximum of a 13" Tire Diameter.. Tire Diameter Slab to Center of Axle 10 "= 17.850 mph 5 inches 11" = 19.365 mph 5.5 inches 12" = 21.420 mph 6 inches 13" = 23.205 mph 6.5 inches 30 Series Torque Convertor @ 3600 RPM Uses a 1:6 rule. Use 1 Clutch tooth for every 6 Sprocket teeth and a Gross Maximum Vehicle plus Passenger Rating of 550 lbs, and a Maximum of a 13" Tire Diameter. Tire Diameter Slab to Center of Axle 14" = 24,990 mph 7 inches 15" = 26.775 mph 7.5 inches 16" = 28.560mph 8 inches 17" = 30.345 mph 8.5 inches 18" = 32.130 mph 9 inches 19" = 33.915 mph 9.5 inches 20" = 35.700 mph 10 inches 21" = 37.485 mph 10.5 inches 22" = 39.270 mph 11 inches 23" = 41.055 mph 11.5 inches 24" = 42.840 mph 12 inches 25" = 44.625 mph 12.5 inches 26" = 46.410 mph 13 inches 27" = 48.196 mph 13.5 inches 28" = 49.980 mph 14 inches 29" = 51.765 mph 14.5 inches 30" = 53.550 mph 15 inches [ Note ] S & S centrifugal clutches which should typically last 7 years using a 6:1 gear ratio. The diameter of your tire will change the speed of a 6:1 ratio as seen above without changing your gears. www.bmikarts.com/Go-Kart-Gear-Ratio-Speed-Calculator

That is likely all true, but when you're driving a transmission and then a rear end you have so much gear reduction none of that tire size and sprocket stuff matters.
@jasperbates6760
@jasperbates6760 3 ай бұрын
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm Yes, the rear end and transmission are figured simply as a 1:1 ratio when paired with the Predator 212cc and S & S clutch. Which does not change the 6:1 ratio I explained in my last post. However the gross vehicle weight & passenger rating & tire diameter has been passed, Those clutches were only meant to move 550 lbs with the specs given. But, if you watch some of his later videos he added a second 10T clutch and 60T sprocket to a jackshaft connecting the engine to the jackshaft via solid gears with a 1:1 ratio to increase the pull of the clutch to 1100 lbs in the same vehicle that could not make it up a small hill in his back yard. Where he could not do it with only 1 clutch without smoking the clutch. . Additional Clutches....... Standard S & S clutches engage around 2000 RPM and can easily pull 550 lbs with a 6:1 ratio safely without damaging the clutch. Lasting for several years without needing replacement. All time tested and approved. But you can literally burn them up in 20 minutes with an improper gear, weight, and tire diameter ratio. Let's daisy chain the same engine to the jackshaft and transmission using solid gears and a 1:1 gear ratio. Keeping the 6:1 ratio for all the S & S clutches and axle sprockets. With standard 2000 RPM engagement. 1 clutch = 550 lbs 10T clutch 60T sprocket. 2 clutch = 1100 lbs 10T clutch 60T sprocket. 3 clutch = 1650 lbs 10T clutch 60T sprocket. 4 clutch = 2200 lbs 10T clutch 60T sprocket. 5 clutch = 2750 lbs 10T clutch 60T sprocket. 6 clutch = 3300 lbs 10T clutch 60T sprocket. 7 clutch = 3850 lbs. 10T clutch 60T sprocket. As you can see you can really increase the amount of weight these type of clutches can pull by simply adding more of them as well as sprockets to a single jackshaft connected to the transmission. Simply gas and go operation. Standard S & S clutches fully engage at only 2000 RPM. So theoretically you could easily move the weight of a typical highway motor vehicle and passenger rating of a motor vehicle with these type of clutches. If your using multiple clutches. More explained..... The reason you must use a 30 series torque convertor for engines up to 8 hp when you exceed these ratings given for a standard S & S clutch is because a torque convertor has a 18:1 gear ratio from a dead stop that helps get you moving that works up to a 6:1 gear ratio when in top speed with the same engine. The higher gear ratio from the torque convertor allows you to use the larger tire diameters and vehicle weight rating normally used for these type of engines. So the vehicle can take off from a dead stop without tearing things up. Then your tire diameter will only affect your vehicles overall top speed. This is why many opt for a 30 series torque convertor over a standard S & S clutch is the increase in gear ratio that a torque convertor provides from take off. So that they can run the bigger tires & wheels or increased weight on golf karts, mini bikes, go karts, and yes even motor vehicles............... Why? Because off road utility, and golf kart wheels and tires and motor vehicle & motorcycle wheels and tires are D.O.T. approved for Highway use. Whereas typical off road utility, go kart, and mini bike tires and wheels are not D.O.T. rated. .

Man I don't know what to tell ya, All those numbers sound really good but in the real world I'm moving a 1200 lb car with one clutch at 40 mph with a 2.28:1 ratio. With a 6:1 it would be real slow.
@jasperbates6760
@jasperbates6760 3 ай бұрын
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm I am not saying you couldn't do it. What I am saying is what the clutch is actually rated for, and built for by the clutch manufacturer. Which is only 550 lbs gross vehicle weight plus passenger rating. And the S & S clutch should last you for several years. Heck I have seen people like yourself moving cars and pick ups and even full size tractors, same as you with these 7.2 hp 212 cc engines with a single clutch. Let me give you an example.... Everyone knows by just adjusting the carburetor's idle screw and the throttle return screw on the Predator 212 cc engine with the engine opened at full throttle. Adjust these screws until the governor starts to retard the engine. ( watching the governor arm ) At that point turn back in just a 1/8, 1/4 or 1/2 a turn on these screws and the Predator 212 cc rips 5000 RPM straight out of the box. My go karts and mini bikes with 13" tire diameters and 6:1 gear ratio's without a transmission ( please keep this in mind ) are doing exactly 41 MPH. On stock Predator 212 cc engines straight out of the box rather Hemi or Non-Hemi @ 5000 RPM's with an S & S clutch. However they are under 550 lb gross vehicle and passenger weight rating with a 13" tire diameter. Which are in perfect specifications provided by the manufacturer for the S & S clutch. That;s twice the normal speed of 21 miles an hour set at @ 3600 RPM. Just by adjusting a couple of screws while at full throttle. You are using transmissions in all your builds, thus you should be getting a whole lot more speed behind that 7.2 hp engine. Ever seen a 250 cc Motocross motorcycle? They do a lot more than 41 MPH. Try 60-85 MPH due to their transmissions, and they are not doing more than 5000 RPM between any of those gear changes. With a vehicle weight up to 300 lbs for 250-500 cc dirt bikes. Now lets talk modified Predator 212 engines. "Warning" ........This is the minimal modifications that are required but, by no means is what I am providing exhaustive. The Predator 212 cc is capable of reaching as much as 30 HP and 12,000 RPM's. The process requires a complete engine tear down removing the governor gears from the block and crankshaft as well as oil sensor from inside the engine and drilling and tapping these holes with lock tight threaded screws. And requires you purchasing a billet rod, a billet flywheel, and 22 lb valve springs, and complete gasket set for your hemi - or non-hemi Predator engine. Must specify your type of Predator engine before ordering any parts or gasket set to replace the factory parts. Also required are torque wrenches for both foot and inch lbs. A small engine piston ring compressor, a vice, and plastic gauge for checking "oil" rod bearing clearance before for re-installation. And feeler gauges for valve lash adjustment. Spring compressor's for small engines are also nice to have if you have the extra money but, are not required with springs up to 22 lbs. Also an engine top plate should be added between the top of the engine and fuel tank for obvious safety reasons due to the added extremely high RPM's the engine will produce. Additionally if you have a plastic geared camshaft it too should be replaced during the tear down with a race "metal geared camshaft". Your choice of duration and lift rather stock or modified for race application. Adding a race cam now and you will not have to go back inside the engine. Added cost to the new engine is approximately the same as a new engine. Roughly around $360-400 dollars total for a "minimal modified engine" and can go up to $1000 dollars or more depending on the build your shooting for. As I stated this is only the minimal requirements to safely "modify the engine" for unbelievable HP gains over a stock governed 7.2 HP Predator engine. Meaning producing seriously crazy HP on the cheap, Using the existing stock external components such as the stock carburetor, exhaust, and cylinder head but doing it safely, as well as having an engine that will actually handle the higher RPM range and HP it's now capable of producing.......With this minimal rebuild you can easily expect to double the HP from a stock 212 cc's power to 14.5 plus HP over a stock out of box 7.2 HP Predator capable of reaching only 3600 to 5000 maximum RPM. And a full on 30 HP Predator 212 cc race engine is just a quick step up from this minimal modified engine by simply improving the externals of the engine, primarily your cylinder head flow & compression, by adding a better aftermarket air filter & aftermarket intake and carburetor already pre-set or rated for 30 HP engines, adding a set of 1.2 roller rockers and push rods, porting and polishing the entire cylinder head intake and exhaust ports & valve areas, then by shaving the bottom of the cylinder head for a higher engine compression, rework the valve seats and valve angle and set valve lash. ** Check that the spark plug and cylinder head are clearing each other by rotating the assembly by hand before trying to crank and tune the engine if you have increased the compression. Add a spacer to the spark plug if needed for spark plug and piston clearance issues ** Then start and re-tune your engine for the significant increased fuel and air flow you will have added over the stock engine components by doing a "plug chop" after all external mods have been performed to find out rather your running too rich or too lean or that no further adjustments are needed. That would be rare indeed so it's a good idea to have several new spark plugs on hand to properly tune the engine. Any changes or adjustments done to the air, fuel, and exhaust system then a new spark plug and "plug chop" should be performed. Remember it's ok if your slightly rich but, you don't want your engine too lean. Love these up to 8 HP go kart sized engines.......
