Feel like this scene is what enables Carlo to treat Connie so badly because she didn't speak up and Sonny disrespected her in front of people not in the family.
@MadMatt_112 жыл бұрын
That's not really the reason. In the book it's revealed that Carlo was just a scumbag and he beat Connie cause he felt mistreated by the family, since Vito wouldn't let him get too heavily involved in the family business; so he took his anger out on her and he got off on being able to beat the daughter of the most powerful mafia Don and get away it, since it's an old school Sicilian rule that a person doesn't interfere in another man's marriage, no matter what.
@buckeyeschmave2 жыл бұрын
@@MadMatt_11 Agree ... if Carlo was fit for the family business and therefore let in, I think he treats Connie a lot better at least physically. He might still have had girlfriends.

So I'm reading these comments in 2024, about a movie made in the 1970s, based on a book written in the 1960s, about a mob family in the 1940s. And what do I see? How terribly unfair things were in both the settings and in the way it was written. As if people nowadays are shocked that the mob isn't/wasn't as rigidly observant of politeness and proper etiquette as they should be. But not only that. Also, that it was allowed to be portrayed that way when it was filmed. Where are all of the modern, feminine sensibilities? How dare the characters be so offensive. Next thing that pops into my head is the old 1960s song "Where have all the flowers gone", except the word 'flowers' is replaced with the word 'testosterone'. Never mind that movies are fiction in the first place, i.e. entertainment.

He has no loyality toward Corleone Family. Whereas, Vito once said "a man doesn't spend time with his Family can never be a real man".
@tomatoisnotafruit56702 жыл бұрын
that's not how it works, you don't get into the inner circle by marrying the daughter of the Don, Carlo had to do a lot of work to prove himself and show his value and loyalty, and only then would he be allowed in, he did nothing but beat his wife and betray the Family first chance he got.

The statement had zero to do with being sexist. Vito instructed everyone to "Give Carlo a living, but never discuss family business with him." Connie was asked to remove him from the table so that business could be discussed. Nothing more. Nothing less.
