Everyone from every era poses the same question. Such is life.. As to this song, my question is why was / is it not more popular? It is well written , decent lyrics, good vocals and nice instrumentation. More importantly, the melody and chorus work.

Peter Cox's trajectory reminds me a lot of Steven Seagal's. Both men had instant success at a very ripe age, out of nowhere. Although they both shared a relatively short peak success, they are both examples of people who were not young in their debut, however achieved worldwide superstar status overnight.

"Don't Look Down (The Sequel)" by Go West is a rare reimagined song that surpasses the original in terms of energy. Its catchy hooks, lively tempo, and vibrant production capture an infectious vibe that was hard to come by during the late '80s. Unlike the original, which was a mid-tempo pop track, the sequel takes the best elements of the original and amplifies them. With a high-energy, upbeat tempo, the sequel transforms the song into an irresistibly fun anthem. It maintains the original's essence while injecting it with a new, vibrant energy, setting it apart from its predecessor. What truly sets this version apart is its sheer exuberance. The tempo is faster, the production is tighter, and the entire track feels like it's been injected with a dose of pure euphoria. In an era often dominated by, in my opinion, somewhat bland, cookie-cutter pop ballads and brooding synth work, "Don't Look Down (The Sequel)" stood out for its playfulness and lightheartedness. The track exudes a carefree energy that's irresistible-it can bring a smile to the face of even the most jaded listener, allowing them to let go of their trials and tribulations, if only for a few moments, and bask in a sense of calm and delight. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and that's precisely why it works so well, bringing the listener a sense of pleasure and relaxation. Its impact on the '80s music scene was significant, introducing a new, more upbeat sound that resonated with a broad audience, providing a much-needed escape from the seriousness of the era. Go West's Peter Cox delivers a vocal performance full of charisma and fun, perfectly complementing the lively instrumentation that propels the song forward. The upbeat synths, punchy percussion, and bouncy basslines create a sonic backdrop that invites listeners to get caught up in the moment. It's easy to imagine fans breaking out in laughter or dancing with no inhibitions-the song has that kind of infectious quality, achieved through its catchy hooks, lively tempo, and vibrant production. For the average Go West fan, "Don't Look Down (The Sequel)" feels like a jubilant celebration. It's an improvement over the original, not just because of the production quality, but because it elevates the song's mood to something happy and celebratory. While the original had a more straightforward, somewhat serious pop sensibility, this version throws caution to the wind. The sequel takes everything that worked in the original and amplifies it with a high-energy, upbeat tempo that transforms the song into an irresistibly fun anthem. The sequel maintains the essence of the original but injects it with a new, vibrant energy, making it a more dynamic and engaging listening experience that is hard to resist. It embraces an all-out party vibe, going all out to lift the listener's spirits. It's one of those rare instances where a sequel far outshines its predecessor, making even the most casual listener feel as though they're part of something special and a triumphant celebration of life. Don't Look Down (The Sequal) fosters a sense of belonging and unity among the audience, making them feel part of a larger, ecstatic community. Ultimately, "Don't Look Down (The Sequel)" is a feel-good, high-energy track that captures the spirit of the late '80s. Its upbeat tempo, catchy hooks, and vibrant production are fun, memorable, engaging, and exciting. The song's vibrant production draws the listener in, creating an immersive and dynamic listening experience that is hard to resist. The song invites you to let go, smile, and enjoy the ride. It still stands as a testament to Go West's ability to reinvent its music to resonate with even more excitement and infectious happiness while paying homage to the prevailing musical trends of the '80s. Just my two cents. - Lefty Stratocaster 😃
