One of the most ask questions anywhere I go
and talk turkey hunting, this subject comes up.
So, I guess I'll do a 3rd video on this
particular call and try to teach it from
a spring scenario.
This a deadly fall turkey hunting call,
but in the right situation it can save your
hunt in the spring also.

I think a lot of guys that are new to diaphragm calls especially, are Jake/gobbler yelping and don’t even realize it. Many callers have no clean front end like a hen.

Found out about this by total accident and frustration many years ago, had a bachelor group in front of me about 80 yards that just froze and wouldn't come any closer. So just to try something I made a loop with my thumb and forefinger and let the handle of my box call just float, when I stoked the call the most god awful raspy yelp I ever heard was produced, well at least it got their attention so I did it again, all of a sudden they ran up on me so fast I couldn't get my gun up. I didn't get a bird that time but I've used it ever since and it's usually successful.

I find it funny that when I do gobbler yelps or a fighting purr people who don't turkey hunt just think I suck at calling I think most people imagine turkey always doing a basic Yelp, you got that gobbler Yelp down man!

I’m going to need a bigger bag to fit all these tricks you’re teaching me! Filled my tags in Maine and tomorrow I’ll be out for my first NY turkey hunt (very north near the Canadian border). Totally different landscape here- big fields, small woodlots. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼 Thanks for sharing Matt.

Something crazy is I've just typically heard longer yelps from hens here in north fl, and south ga....so I've always "gobbler yelped"....now I wonder about this whole dynamic.

It makes me wonder because northern birds can be so much different....for instance around here it's really difficult to get a bird to gobble off the roost on most common areas...in Kansas they sing like canaries...I wonder if the hens just Yelp a little different here...🤔
