I think the additional "twist" if you will that the gods were corrupted because of what Kratos did from the first game was uneeded, it tried to add some sense of heroism to him, when in fact the story (GOW 2+3 are two parters) shows quite well narrative and visually about how the world is suffering by kratos blind quest for vengeance. That part was shown quite well.

Maybe it's yahtz making a point by phoning it in to highlight AAA gaming in a lack of actual game play through story development, and therefore becoming stagnant and bland with more concern for milking a money making formula to get every drop of life from it before carting the next development team whose fresh souls they can gorge on. First thing: Villain* Moving on, villains are only good when they speak and act with sense. Great villains have a character that either: a) has no redeeming quality b) is almost completely redeemable Kratos is not a good character and fails for being all but irredeemable, but has some redeemable qualities thrown his way . a) It's the reason why Kefka, the Joker and Terumi can truly terrify you because NO they don't care that they are fighting you in a helicopter that is spiraling out of control and both of you can die any second. They will laugh, mock you, maybe give a monologue because they can all while they are trying to kill you. You can't argue with these guys because they are dead set on their goals. They are like this because lack any redeeming qualities. b) On the other side of the coin, there are villains like Black Battler, Fate, and (edited in) Magneto. (I would include a fourth or more well known villains, but off the top of my head, this is all I have...) When you face them, they are the kind who are able to put differences aside to achieve their goals. They are willing to sit down, pull out a chair, invite you for some tea (example), and talk to you. Lemme make this clear for a moment: They are NOT usually giving a monologues during this time. That's a different subject. Anyway, after all that needed to be said has been covered, your death will now begin OR they'll just leave. I mean, yeesh. It's kinda rude to kill a person after you just had some tea with them. They are like this because they are almost completely redeemable. Also, there is a fine difference between a villain and a super-villain and it isn't because the latter has super powers. I don't even need to discuss that here since my point is proven. Is short: Kratos isn't even a villain let alone a super one. He belongs in a psychiatric ward.

Dice12K Anti-hero is mostly a person that delivers ''ultimate justice'' eg: kills every criminal ever. Also, you mentioned ''belongs in a psychiatric ward'' and before you mentioned joker, who in fact gets thrown into one. Or is Arkham not an asylum? :P Or did i miss something? I'm really tired. :( If superman would murder every single person he fights for justice, he would be an anti-hero. And i see a super-villain not as a villain that has super-powers but as a villain that affects the entire world like let's say... brings up an apocalypse because ROAR HNNGH BLOOD GUTS. :P Not to mention he literally kills gods. :D Kratos certainly isn't a hero. Nor is he sane. He's more like a complete psycho armed with godly powers with 1 mindset: Kill everything that looks at him funny. And considering he's a huge, pale dude with a body tattoo made of blood, that's pretty much everyone. I consider him more of a super-villain than a hero. Dice12K Your list of B characters reminded me of an old Supernatural book series I read a long time ago. The first villains is a werewolf that has a city marked as his territory. And when another werewolf comes into it, he invites them out to dinner in the most expencive resturant in the city. Has a nice chat, see how they doing, how's life and all that. Then when the dinner is over, he tells them they have 24 hours to get the fuck out of his city, or else he will track them down and torture them, and everyone they loved no matter where they are in the world as slowly as possible before killing them. Also you forgot the biggest B character there is, Magneto from X-Man.

I sometimes think the reason kratos is such Mindless killing machine is because he was a slave to the gods r for so long that once he got a taste of freedom and was finally able to give into his rage, it consumed him until rational thought was a mere memory, and he reverted to the only thing he knew how to do, which was kill. Then I remember I don't give a shit about the plot and just play God of war so I can wear a mythological creature's intestines as a fucking scarf.

Always liked how in God of War 3 you're, by all intents and purposes, playing as the main villain. Yeah they try to make him look like the good guy, but let's face it, Kratos destroyed the world and the majority of all civilization over years old petty grievances, with the intro to God Of War 2 as the final straw.

Maybe if they established that before it would of made it a little less contrived, maybe. But at the same time you gotta wonder "Wait a second you said Pandora's box had the powers of a god, you didn't say anything about evils within it, Athena did you forget to mention something before?" And also come to think of it would of made more sense in the sequels if the powers of a god in the box in the first game was instead the evil that made him so powerful, cause then that could have easily driven him over the edge and start murdering everyone around him. Well instead if him just being an ass hat and moron throughout the whole series who cannot take a hint that there was a reason Ares was killed for attacking Athens a city belonging to a fellow god, I mean come on!

To be honest, I only played GoW 1 and 2 and I actually wish I haden't played 2 either. GoW 1 was good ... and it was complete. The story was told, Kratos had his revenge on the God who tricked him and took his family, he became the new God of War, everything was allright. GoW 2 was very unsatisfying, you go around killing men and Gods alike because "fuck you all, I am not happy with the status quo and dad doesn't let me kill millions" plus the ending was a freaking cliffhanger wich is an insult no matter if a movie or a game does it.

I decided to do what Yahtzee didn't do, and upgrade my weapons somewhat evenly, so I can vary with them. The experience was quite fun and it felt like each weapon had its purpose and time to use it.

Kratos is not on a quest for redemption. That ended in the first game. He wasn't trying to redeem himself because he thought he needed redeeming, he was trying to redeem himself because the gods promised to rid him of the constant nightmares of Ares tricking him into murdering his family. But Athena, Zeus, and the rest of them proved no better than Ares. They were just manipulating him and no intention of ever keeping their word. So he's not trying to "atone" for anything. He's just trying to make the gods pay. And whether you like Kratos' methods or not, he's doing what needs to be done. The gods were petty and corrupt even before they stupidly unleashed the evils of Pandora's Box rather than taking direct action against Ares. After they were infected by the box... no, Olympus needed to be brought down. Sure the cataclysms the gods' deaths unleashed were pretty terrible, but it's like ripping off a bandaid. It needed to happen sooner or later. The world will recover, and it'll be better off without a bunch of insane douchebag gods. As for Kratos... he's Spartan. Read up on Spartan culture sometime. They were a fucked up people. By Spartan logic, most of the innocent people Kratos butchers have it coming because they were weak.

He didn't just conquer it like Kratos' Spartan army did to other parts of Greece. He wiped htem out. He killed every single man, woman, and child. Kratos is called the Last Spartan because Zeus murdered every single other Spartan for something that Kratos did. Yes, you're goddamned right he deserved to die and everyone who tried to protect him deserved the same fate. You can whine about collateral damage all you want, but the plain fact is that the world is infinitely better off with Zeus and his vile ilk dead. If you want to play a Disneyized game where war is clean and only the bad guys are hurt, there's plenty of games out there to help shelter your delicate senses. Until then, if you can stop whining about games that don't fit that mold because shock of shocks an ancient culture had different values than the modern western world, that'd just fan-fucking-tastic.

Kratos is a mass murdering psychopath but some of the gods he came across he didn't even want to kill they provoked him. Hermes wouldn't shut up and kept mocking him. Hera insulted Pandora and again wouldn't shut up. Hercules started the fight between himself and Kratos thinking it would make him Zeus's favorite. Helios tried to trick Kratos into believing he could touch the flame of Olympus which would kill him. Posidoen tried to stop him from getting to Zeus. Hephastus double crossed and tried to kill him but Kratos actually understands where is coming from he was simply trying to protect his child. the only god Kratos fully intended to kill was Zeus the others either tried to stop him provoked him lied to him or double crossed him

Yeah, this sequel basically made Kratos my single most hated video game character. I already felt the writing went downhill with II rehashing the original (I cannot fully express how much of a disappointment that was), but this is just dragging out an unnecessary sequel for cash, and then when the developers admitted they made Kratos too unlikable, they decide throw in a couple of prequels that mess things up even more.

It's not that he didn't like The Last of Us. He just said that it was the videogame equivalent of oscar-bait and, for a game that was wanting to be this grand exercise in character development, the gameplay and story were very safe and predictable.

My interpretation was that its because he opened up Pandora's Box (I think Athena in the game gives a more half-assed reason). At the God's behest you'll note, so that he could fight Ares. Problem is that it corrupted everyone with an evil (effectively a form of derangement) relating to their general characters. Kratos got Hope (due to the fact that when he opened the box he was hoping he could avenge himself and then die and see his family again). Which sounds delightful, and had a use once Pandora helped him correctly harness it, but it was also a curse in the classic interpretation tmu. Kratos up until Pandora helps him is the wild sort of hope the deluded and the irrational have. He's God of War-ing too hard in the into to the second game in the hopes of numbing the pain he feels and doing his best at being a god. Then the Fear affecting Zeus calls him to smite Kratos and pisses him off. Then Kratos hopes he can free himself from the God's control by way of a puppet ripping its masters arms off and bludgeoning him to death with them. And its not until he can absolve himself of the actual source of his rage and hatred that hope can shine through in a healthier, less crazed, warped, and murderous sense.

Kratos would do anything to secure Sparta's place as ruler of the world, so basically he'll help them carve a path through the world. Zeus saw that and tried to put a stop to it, he did have a fear that was unfounded and he followed through with it. But I digress, his revenge destroyed the world, is he justified? Where does he stop? There has to be a limit.

Biggest issue with Playstation Allstars is your attacks don't have "weight." Opponents go flying but if you don't do a finisher, they won't die, which is complete BS. At least in brawl the more damage you did the more they flew. Felt like you are actually doing something with your attacks

@kaibawiz If you knew anything about greek mythology, then you would know that you do not need to die to go to Hades. There are multiple entrances to Hades mentioned in Greek mythology, such as the river styx, you know, the river he falls into and doesn't die... This can also be supported through fact that Herakles entered Hades to defeat the Cerberus while he was mortal, and, um, alive. So yea, he doesn't die...
