Same, and it really is, isn't it? That and the infinite ammo. And the ability to shut down a sentry for four seconds, which is hilarious especially when the enemy engi is using the Wrangler, because even then he can't use it and it often encourages them to bring down the shield and repair/do other things. It's just such a fun and varied weapon, even though the tradeoff of having barely any damage against buildings is pretty devastating in many situations.

The Black Box's upside gives more health the more accurate you are and its downside doesn't come into play much if your can hit all your shots and don't overextend. Aside from the fact that it literally rewards you for playing better, the thing's viable in comp. But no, if it frustrates you then it's obviously a huge crutch.

I use black box a lot and for me most noticable things are Pros: Spam the choke point from safe distance and cotribute instead of retreating for healthpack. Shoting at your feet at meele range to hit enemies doesnt hurt that much. Cons: Only to rockects left after rocket jump so using it as an offense is often a no go.

Health economy is one of those interesting things about soldier. Me personally I think when you compare a Black Box soldier with any secondary other than Gunboats and a stock Rocket soldier with Gunboats it can pretty similar. The big difference being is in one case you're sacrificing your own damage output and rocket jumping ability for survivability and team coordination tools and vice versa. Black Box lets soldier be a team player. Stock lets soldier be a roamer.

You probably get this a lot and it's also a really unoriginal and effortless thing to say but - you seriously deserve more subscribers and attention However bit of criticism for the video, i think comparing the black box and direct hit is odd since they are such different weapons - personally i would compare stock and the black box. However i can see why you would compare the direct hit and rocket launcher since they are both unlockables. In general though this was an awesome and super fun video to watch - keep up the good work!

I love the black box and here’s why: I use it so medics have one less irritation to heal and it’s design is cool and just feels so *Powerful* and it makes it so you can go full Lone wolf mode by using it and the conch.

It’s good to see another person out there making good quality TF2 content these days. With the big names leaving, doing variety content, or barely uploading it can feel kinda lonely.

The issue with the Black Box is that you usually have to use the shotgun with it as a finisher due to the crippling clip size downside, therefor you're usually not using the Gunboats. That means you're taking 40-60 damage from rocket jumps instead of 15-25, and losing a lot of HP in the process, negating the upside of health regen anyway, while you also have 1 less rocket, which makes successful bombs on groups significantly harder. And for a second lets view the weapon in a more competitive setting: if The Roamer is running BB, he'll be able to bomb far less effectively due to the clip size negation, and can't realistically swap off from Gunboats to Shotgun for a finisher due to his role. The Pocket can more easily justify swapping to the shotgun (not as common as it used to be but still viable) to compensate for the lost rocket, but as he's playing more close to the team regardless, he'll likely be decently overhealed anyway, making the upside near useless for a large downside. The Black Box is fun but other than the Rocket Jumper (which is imo more fun), the worst sidegrade.

i bloody love the beggars bazooka, its a pain to use at times, especially if you forget you can change to shotgun mid fight, but i get my highest soldier scores with it since thats what i have mostly used for soldier for a few years now side note, if you join a server with rtd ever, and roll unlimited ammo with it, if you fire 1 shot it basically turns into a rocket minigun with no off switch until the roll ends

I think you could've presented the pros and cons a bit more concisely. I would say the pros are the black box is more flexible to use with a combo. It synergizes nice with buff banner, which makes up for its smaller clip with increased damage, you can potentially replenish more health if you use the battalion's backup, and also when you pop the resistance, you're technically getting more health on hit because the enemy needs to do more damage to take off that health than normal, conch gives another steady stream of health and can give as much as 50 health per hit with the banner popped, which increases proportionally if you fight more than 1 enemy, allowing you to take risky fights more often, and shotguns make up for the black box's missing rocket, and its bullet damage type give you an edge against pyros, demoknights, and medics with the vaccinator. The black box also partially makes up for the missing conch/backup health boost. It allows soldier to roam more freely than usual, with or without gunboats. The extra health really shines through, assuming you hit optimal splash damage and get 15 hp per hit, that's 45 hp extra for an entire clip. You can take fights, lose some health, and get it right back if you play your cards right. But then you REALLY glossed over the cons of this thing. 1 less rocket doesn't sound too painful at first, and your advice was to "play it more carefully", but then you either end up dying from the less damage output not killing enemies, or play too passively and run from fights, ending up not contributing as much to the team as you would with other rocket launchers. Basically what I'm trying to say here is, it's simply not possible to "play safely". There is no such thing. You're going to lose out if you wanna gain something else. To reinforce my point, here is a list of enemies you can't kill with 3 rockets that you could with 4. Heavies Demoknights using the chargin' targe Engineers using the short circuit (it can delete 3 rockets before running out of ammo, the exact amount you have.) Spies with dead ringer Soldiers using black box/conch/black box + battalion's backup And that's assuming you have 100% *perfect* aim, which realistically no one can achieve. More often than not you'll be hitting around 68 damage splash damage mid-range shots, in which case you can't kill All soldiers Decent pyros who can reflect at least 1 rocket back Any demoknight with any shield Medics running away from you shooting blutsauger (believe me it happens quite often) Cloaked spies That, is a LONG list of extra people you can't kill in a clip. Now before you go and say "Oh just reload 1 rocket and finish them off" might I remind you that it takes 0.92 seconds for the first rocket to load, 1 whole second in TF2 can let every single weapon in the game fire 1 or 2 more shots at you. Which, considering you've already been fighting them to begin with, you are probably low as well if the enemy is any competent, which means that extra hit could very well kill you before you can kill them. The fact of the matter is, you shouldn't gloss over that missing rocket; it makes a world's difference. A more accurate description of this weapon would be "You trade losing more 1v1 fights for a free-er playstyle not tethered to health packs, and more flexibility in choosing your secondary." I'm not saying it's bad, not at all. What I'm trying to say that it is a sidegrade through and through, and you should acknowledge its shortcomings a bit more.

I really love using the Black Box with the Battalion's Backup! It's one of the only weapon sets that actually work well together. The Battalion's increases your max health and the banner turns you into an explosive tank, and the Black Box can heal back the health you lost! Overall the Tank Buster set is stupid good, you have no idea how much I was able to carry my team with this set combined with the Disciplinary Action... and the Granadier's Softcap goes really good with my Soldier's Stack and Antarctic Parka

I build up the charge with the Black Box, and then use the Charge and run in Sword out in rage mode, using the Conch power to not only get my health from kills, but just dealing damage to. I don’t particularly like using the Black Box because my preferred playstyle is as a roamer who rocket jumps up to people and kills them, meaning that with the Black Box I’m unable to rocket jump chain and then kill enemies as easily because I might need 2-3 rockets to kill them and after a chain I don’t have that. When I use the Black Box, I end up in the situation way too much in which I do a two rocket rocket jump chain and then shoot one rocket at the enemy and then… oh, only one rocket, so I can’t even kill a Scout with it. Just personal preference.

i dont use black box that often but i found it pairs really well with the Buff banner. Buff banner has absolutely no health advantages but it makes up for it with it's combat advantages, while the black box does the exact opposite so they end up pairing really well by making up for it's downsides respectively

I haven't gotten around to commenting on the video for months. o.o Anyway, another thing i like to point out another con with the black box, specifically pairing it up with the gunboats and using it for the roaming playstyle. With the - 25% clip size, it is the worst weapon to ever use it with since you need 2 rockets to quickly make your way to the front lines and another 2 rockets to bomb an important target say like a medic for example. Without that 4th rocket, you're left to die without any means to finish off someone or rocket jump away to safety. Plus you can't do rollouts as efficiently and effectively without said 4th rocket, not to mention it is harder to do airshots which is favored by competitively oriented soldier mains in my opinion. Other than that, love the video and the editing :)

I mostly use the Air Strike, partially out of nostalgia for its glory days between I think Gun Mettle and Tough Break, but mostly because it allows for a Hybrid Trolldier set that's super solid and lets me soar through the air and either go for a barrage of rockets or a market garden, depending on the situation. "Oh, but what if you're on a map that doesn't encourage insane mobility or the playstyle of the Air Strike, like Gullywash?" On those maps, I just play Demoman.

Id say increase the max health gain per rocket to 25 or 33 but give it a 25% less healing from other sources e.g. conch, meds, dispensers etc. To me if you use the BB its because you are confident enough in your aim to not rely on other healing sources as much which frees up your secondary e.g. battalions to help push or a shotgun to deal with pyros who keep reflecting your rockets.

the missing rocket is honestly such a big deal, especially considering 4 rockets to begin with already feels restrictive. in competitive, if you want to jump off the ground and then off a wall to bomb the med, you'll have to reload one just to have enough rockets to kill the medic. plus the healing benefit isn't extremely useful when you already have a medic. but in pubs where you probably don't have a medic and none of that really matters at all HELL YEAH WHY NOT amazing quality video

The black box is a pretty underwhelming weapon in my opinion. 20 health just isn't enough to justify taking a rocket away, when it comes to rocket jumping more than 3 rockets is much prefered if you want to be able to fight by the time you get where you are going. shotguns to help the black box to a degree but I find much more use out of other secondaries such as support banners or the gunboats. if they where ever to change the black box they could give it a small damage penalty but not enough to break damage thresholds on light classes or medics instead of taking away a rocket like the liberty launcher.
