The “poor psychic” criterion speaks to competence, presuming that prognostication able to make you rich ought first to have done so for the psychic. Performers with large egos and senses of entitlement. Seeing them on stage versus off stage was quite a Revelation (see what I did there?). I've never met one whom I thought was genuine. As a former Christian, the whole "God will cater to what I personally want" mindset is pretty common. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense theologically, but in that way it's much like the whole rest of Christianity. I think, that's just kind of a human thing. There's a natural tendency to think the world revolves around us. Christianity arguably makes that worse, because it says the entire planet, solar system, galaxy and universe were all created just for you, because the all-powerful creator of everything just wants to be your friend, and wants to pleasure you forever (yes, I know what I said...). ... but I do imagine rich preachers probably tend more towards being con men.

It's not impossible that he's genuine, but his actions read as, "I deserve the world, and I don't care who I have to hurt to get it." How can these corrupted religious leaders believe what they say unless they've invented the most petty, exclusive, and self-contradicting god out of whole cloth? I mean, the biblical god isn't that far off, but he'd have to selectively listen to and serve the leaders to their congregations' detriment. The lack of self awareness is rather astonishing for a lot of these so called preachers. I recall a lesson from college where we were discussing the Religious Right movement in America in the 80s and 90s. My professor said that these people have a level of self-alienation. They're so invested in what they're saying that they either believe it to be true, or just can't admit that they're wrong...until they get caught. Then they want forgiveness and leniency for their crimes. I have to say, while I come for the content of the videos, I always stay for the jaunty little tune at the end showing the Patreon supporters. That's a nice ditty that picks my spirits up every time. 😀Hope you're having a great week, Silly Little Guy!

God told me to remind you that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven. He told me to tell you that love of money is the root of all evil. God told me to tell you that you can store up riches in Heaven by giving away all of your property. God commanded me to tell you that the best way of giving away all of your property is by giving it to me. God said that you can trust me to use that property for His purposes.

I feel like he was just moments away from self-awareness when he started talking about false preachers. He acts like he's God's debt collector. "Uhhh excuse me. Yes, Jesus? You're 10 years past due on paying me blessings I'm gonna need that now with interest."

The line about the rich man and the eye of the needle is a point well made, but I actually think the most important part about that passage is what Jesus says next, because he explains it: basically, you can either do what God wants you to do (love Him and love others) or you can do what gets you money. It's impossible to respect the rule about loving your neighbour (your neighbour being anyone who needs your help, financial or otherwise) and be/stay rich. Prosperity Gospel actually comes out of rich people trying to reconcile that paradox. They convince themselves that it's God's Will for them to have that money because he's blessed them. Therefore, goes the logic, if you are blessed by God you will be rich because money is the most easily quantifiable means of 'measuring' blessing. It very quickly gets to the point where the only blessing people care about is financial and preachers want to have money and show that they have money to demonstrate how favoured they are by God. The end result is that you boil down all the miracles and blessings the Bible talks about into "Oh Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz."

The Prosperity Gospel is based on a heterodox (e.g. Heretical and/or wrong) systemic re-interpretation of scripture called “premillenial dispensationalism.” The TLDR version is: “Yeah, Jesus said those things, they just don’t apply to US. They apply to someone else. These OTHER verses apply to us because of REASONS.” Edit: The demon thing is pretty spot on for people who… you know, see Christianity as something other than a way to make money.
