As a former Christian, the whole "God will cater to what I personally want" mindset is pretty common. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense theologically, but in that way it's much like the whole rest of Christianity. I think, that's just kind of a human thing. There's a natural tendency to think the world revolves around us. Christianity arguably makes that worse, because it says the entire planet, solar system, galaxy and universe were all created just for you, because the all-powerful creator of everything just wants to be your friend, and wants to pleasure you forever (yes, I know what I said...). ... but I do imagine rich preachers probably tend more towards being con men.

The line about the rich man and the eye of the needle is a point well made, but I actually think the most important part about that passage is what Jesus says next, because he explains it: basically, you can either do what God wants you to do (love Him and love others) or you can do what gets you money. It's impossible to respect the rule about loving your neighbour (your neighbour being anyone who needs your help, financial or otherwise) and be/stay rich. Prosperity Gospel actually comes out of rich people trying to reconcile that paradox. They convince themselves that it's God's Will for them to have that money because he's blessed them. Therefore, goes the logic, if you are blessed by God you will be rich because money is the most easily quantifiable means of 'measuring' blessing. It very quickly gets to the point where the only blessing people care about is financial and preachers want to have money and show that they have money to demonstrate how favoured they are by God. The end result is that you boil down all the miracles and blessings the Bible talks about into "Oh Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz."

Thank you, Emma, for doing the footwork on this guy. I've seen other videos about him, but you were the only one who had sermons by him. Your work was much more thorough than the others.

I'm sure if God is real he will get a big laugh out of the pedantics and then say "Alright, sew for me". I think the saying is "as ye shall sew, so shall ye weep"😂. It's how I know people like that don't believe what they say.

The Prosperity Gospel is based on a heterodox (e.g. Heretical and/or wrong) systemic re-interpretation of scripture called “premillenial dispensationalism.” The TLDR version is: “Yeah, Jesus said those things, they just don’t apply to US. They apply to someone else. These OTHER verses apply to us because of REASONS.” Edit: The demon thing is pretty spot on for people who… you know, see Christianity as something other than a way to make money.

It’s always funny to me how the prosperity preachers never recall how during one of the faiths main tales when ol JC was getting tempted in the wilderness by ol Scratch, he was offered all the kingdoms upon all creation and JC was like “nah dude, for the last time fuck off ya dork”
