Godot Tutorials Are Now Useless As This Engine Has No Future

The Godot engine has been taken over by weirdos who are not interested in making games and would rather spend their time banning investors/backers and game devs from being part of the community instead of focusing on making a good engine and highlighitng games made with the Godot engine. I'm sure Brackeys is thrilled with the new direction Godot has taken. As this new direction means a lot less people will be seeking out Godot tutorial videos. Who wants to belong to the Godot community now as the Godot community management team has made it very clear they hate gamers, game devs, and backers.

The title alone might be one of the stupidest things I have ever heard in my entire life. Nothing at all has changed about the Godot Engine, they didn't introduce any fees, they didn't do anything sketchy, all they did was block a few people on social media. You can't view their tweets, boohoo. Even if they did handle it immaturely, that is all it is. The community manager has nothing to do with the actual engine itself.

This isn’t a Godot issue, and I wish people would stop jumping to conclusions. The situation involved a single community manager who made a mistake and became a bit overwhelmed. One person’s error doesn’t spell the end for an excellent game engine that’s open-source and free for anyone to use. Godot tutorials aren’t useless, and there’s nothing wrong with the engine itself. If you have concerns about what the community manager did, that’s understandable. However, it shouldn’t reflect poorly on the entire team, who work hard to keep Godot an outstanding piece of software.

This CM didn't do one singular mistake but is actually already known inside the community for this kind of behavior. the only difference is that it was never escalated by said CM to such level. It is also not just one singular person in question but also the guy who employed her and displayed behavior like that himself. you can try to lie and deflect but this will not work anymore since this isn't even an issue affecting the Godot community but many community on the internet. we had this shit with Linux as well. One faction is purging everyone they dislike while crying they are the victims. Making a mistake and becoming a bit overwhelmed would explain a few bans. this person sat for at least 2 days straight on their PC was banning people left and right. I came to the X channel 2 days after it went down, posted a question mark and got banned in about 30 seconds. this isn't 'becoming a bit overwhelmed' this is completely failing at their job. every other person on this planet gets fired for such extreme misbehavior. like she wasn't just banning, she was banning bakers too! she was actively torpedoing the very company she is PAID to improve. this is nuts. if we accept this, we can employ 9 year old tamper tantrum throwing children as CMs. they will get faster their shit together after losing their mind than this CM.

You guys don't understand how deep this issue is. The only misstep the CM made was hiding the replies, everything that proceeded was done by management. The banning of supporters from their github was made by their business exec Remi. Even in their tone deaf official response they can't take full responsibility. This is going to affect the engine on every level especially since Yuri, one of their most active programmers, was unceremoniously fired without any discernable reason back in January.

Godot is open source which means that if the current Godot community starts gatekeeping, anybody can fork the source code of the engine and make a new community. The Godot tutorials and content will stay relevant depending on the evolution of the game engine

There is no "new path" Godot is going down. It's open-source and the CM teams completely isolated from the devs and independent contributors. Randon twitter spat is going to have zero effect on Godot's future. It's not like closed-source software. It's just people with way too much time trying to farm drama trying to make it seem a bigger deal than it is. Almost everyone volunteers and like any social media, there is bound to be those that may not be able to conduct themselves professionally. The community managers will eventually be replaced with more mature ones, the CEO is just CEO in name only as the creator, he does not own Godot. The engine is just there, the zip file is just there, the source code is just there, even after 100 years, there must be some one willing to use it. some people even like digging gold source engine. You don't want to use it doesn't mean everyone don't want to use it. And tutorials are never useless, I never watched godot tutorial, I just use the knowlege learnt from unity and use it in Godot. Tutorials are not made because there is a engine called godot. Tutorials were made because there are people like making games, and they want to share how they achieve this.

"Apparently game engines are woke now? Well then, we won't complain 🌈 Show us your #Wokot games below " This INFURIATED conservative X shitposters, notably most of them not game devs in any way. Godot largely ignored them, occasionally posting a cheeky response, and largely replied to people making jokes, such as one person saying "woke game jam when?" with "old news" and a link to the Pride month game jam Godot had. Now a handful of devs are mad the social media presence of the open source engine that gives them 100% of the profits from game sales has such dangerous opinions as woke being a dumb catch-all term and queer people existing isn't a bad thing. yeah you missed a whole lot probably because you're not terminally online (I should lowkey stop using the internet for a while) But basically godot made a joke where they said "Apparently all game engines are woke, show use your #Wokot engines game devs!" And this led to twitter having a meltdown like always, and then the problem is that the person that takes care of the account blocked everyone who got angry at the tweet and then banned people on the discord server. And then they asked people who got blocked/banned to submit a form with their email adress to appeal the ban and that got people even angrier. Of course the engine still has a future despite all the bans but twitter blows things out of proportion like always.

@@poleve5409 You are omitting a few details, like them lying about their moderation being unofficial or not, racial slurs being exposed by Godot moderation, a titanium level backer being banned, a dev angry about attack helicopter pronouns, the CM taking photos of herself in the shower and antagonizing Asmongold directly for more negative publicity, them collecting your personal email to be unblocked (which is kind of scummy). I think there's more, too.

I use an outdated version of godot version 4.1.3 with no plans on updating and the only time i have engaged with the community is watching a tutorial is that ok or do i need to find a forked version and if so what good godot forks are out there

Sadly, if the foundation itself is rotten to the core, what can we expect of the future of this engine? they clearly have much greater concerns than actual software development, so it's clear that with people like that, the engine ain't going anywhere. It's stagnant and bound to die due to lack of actual progress. That's why I'm looking forward to seeing whether the Redot people are serious or not... cause if they are, then that is bound to be the actual future for the Godot engine.

@@DarthHawkGaming I wasn't using Godot to begin with because I didn't think it was ready for what my particular use case is. I'm going to be keeping my eye on redot and also keeping them accountable. I'm currently still wrapped up with my Unreal engine projects but perhaps when I have something that I think can work with Redot I will use it. I have several friends who have joined that team and are excellent developers so I think they have the opportunity to do great things. I think just keep an eye on it for now and evaluate if it's good for your own situation.
