Hey bro! I only have a godox speelight and I want to buy a bigger flash for shooting big rooms in villas. I really dont know what to buy. Never had a chance to use a big flash. I was thinking of buying the AD400 but its quite expensive for my budget and now I changed my mind and I want to buy the AD200. But I don't know if the power will be enough!

The reason you are my favorite photography equipment channel. You explain the product in plain language anyone can comprehend and have the genius to back up your opinion with tested, concise and honest research! No bigoted preconceived notions or bias. You can’t be bought by manufacturers as you normally purchase these items and don’t take free merchandise to bias your opinions. Yours is the very first channel I look to everyday for your newest content! Keep up the fantastic work and btw, your model ain’t bad either!!😅

Markus. Thank you for recommending the AD100. I already have an AD600, three AD200s and even a V860, but bought two AD100s and two Angler 28” softboxes for a Holiday party I was shooting. For the “step and repeat” shots, I handheld one of the AD100s in an Angler and they turned out perfectly. For the rest of the party I used the AD200s with Magmods to illuminate the room and put gels on the AD100s to add some atmosphere and color, especially during the dancing. These are going to Ngoc to be my “go to” headshot lights as well. Thanks again for your honest reviews.

Out of everything i never expected this, but i'm very surprised in a positive way. And pleased at the same time. I'm very glad that i came across this video before buying even anything from the Godox AD Pro series. Right now i'm still considering the AD200 Pro the most. Great video! And good point about ND filter vs HSS. It really is counter productive to bring a more powerful flash just to hamper it down with HSS. Although each photographer will prefer a different solution. It is a great reminder for photographers that want efficiency and mobility. Just bring a good ND filter and the AD100 is actually as powerful as the AD300/AD400 in HSS. With the ND filter being much lighter to bring.

I really enjoy your presentations, keep up the good work. Having not read all the comments I can't be sure someone hasn't already mentioned it, but a couple of months ago I ordered a third 100 pro from Adorama. I contacted Shua in tech support and inquired about the color difference in the latest strobe vs the other two I already owned. Two days later I received two replacement front lenses at no charge. I've been dealing with Adorama as a source for their Flashpoint strobes for probably 5 years or more. I won't bore you with the details or a list of how many of their strobes I own, but for my money they are unbeatable for customer service and product support, at least on the flashpoint strobes.

Lol great video! Thanks, I've been shopping around for some studio lights and the AD100 seems perfect. I wanted to get big heavy ones, but now you make some great points. Mainly that since they work well enough for most situations, and are so light weight etc, your more likely to 1. use them and 2. be more creative and move them around. Big heavy strobes (with power cables for each one) are so cumbersome on set or location you hate moving them around. Great vid!

I have seen it in action and I really like the form factor. I use 2 ad 600s often but they aren't for traveling. Your assessment of. The bigger flashes are spot on . I would have liked a little more depth about the baseball strobe on the ad200. I was very lose to just getting a 200 now I am going to revisit trying to test the 100.

One thing that you didn’t mention, the ad100s have a built in fan to cool themselves down and the ad200s do not. I own 4 of the ad100s and 4 of the ad200s. In extreme outdoor usage, the ad200s always overheat long before the ad100s.

I love this flash and it is my main one for years now ( I also got the v1 and ad600). one extra neat trick to help it out is to use a variable ND filter on the lens to dim the environmental light then use it at lower power to (even at ETTL) to light your subject. You'll be able to shoot wide open f stop for bokeh, avoid HSS, shoot faster and longer before the flash overheats if it does at all.

The main reason to have a 300 is the ability to use the Godox mount for softboxes. The softboxes end up being much more compact and portable than bowens mount softboxes. When you're using it as a soft light, it is indeed more powerful than the 200 or 100. For hard light the smaller flashes are much more efficient because of their fresnel heads and/or better reflectors available, but at the end of the day you're just concentrating the light over a smaller area which doesn't help you in a softbox (or in a bounced light scenario).

@timk8258 5 ай бұрын
@@TheSunnySuttonsI fully agree, I use the 32” SMDV boxes now and have sold my 300 since writing that comment (more than) one year ago. There’s an adapter to use the 300 in the SMDV box, but when I metered it I actually got more light from the AD200 with fresnel head, and negligible difference in specularity, so the 300 was superfluous at that point. The 200 can also be easily gelled in the smdv box. I used 100’s for a while but now I just use the V1 pro (which also doubles as on-camera flash at weddings) and only when I need more power will I pull out the AD200. If I need even more power than that I can get an extra full stop with the AD400, still in the SMDV box. My kit is finally fairly streamlined with lots of versatility and I love it.

So after watching this vid I bought ad100 pro on sale for $250. As I already have ad300 pro and I heavily rely on lights as I do lots of events. Could not believe what you were saying here. Today I tested side by side. At close proximity to the wall I had ad300 brighter at full vs ad100 at full, but not 3x brighter. Then I moved both lights away from the wall and this is where the real difference is. BTW both light were with stock modifiers. What I noticed is that ad300 disperse light kinda to the sides, rather than straight ahead. So the walls on the sides (left and right) in my room were brighter closer to the light. But the wall straight ahead (around 20ft) was darker, and it IS darker than ad100. Unfortunately I don't have any modifiers for ad300 to do further testing. But I might be getting ad100s from now on. All test were done in full manual mode. Thanks for the informative video! Edit: Did further comparison with V860ii and seems power brightness at full power identical to AD100 pro. Very weird. Basically you can say V860ii as strong as AD300 pro? Makes no sense.

Hi Markus, Love your channel, your honesty = 100%, I’ll send some energy your way. I’ve tried flashes but I’m also getting asked for video work so need to head more towards lighting. I've watched heaps of your videos on little lights :) Question about a shoot I was on the other day… We were in a medium sized fitness studio with fluro lights overhead, black walls, but sunlight coming through floor to ceiling windows - the model wanted to talk with their back to the sunlight, so I had the problem where there was bright sunlight, then dark studio, then placing bright lighting on the model. Looked super average and dark in the background! Is there a light you recommend (for under $400) that can throw good daylight into one area of a studio, or a bounce setup you think I could try? I’m also doing a staff awards video where there’s flicker because of the floods installed there (something I learnt to check after watching your cruise ship flicker video years ago). Maybe the light could also do a stagey / handshakey / photo’s on stage light up as well? Respect DD

"I love these things" and I love the content you produce! I was waiting for you to discuss the AD100 and glad you recommended them. Camara/lens systems these days offer immpressive stabilization that might allow you to handhold the flash/camara in each hand? I was thinking of incorporating a bracket but most likely not necessary/cumbersome. I'd really love to shoot without a tripod mounted flash but allowing omni direction handheld flash setup.

The perfect setup for on the go with ocf. A 20" flip box and a ad100pro. Weights like a feather.

Great video Markcus and I love your enthusiasm. :) It would be great if you'd do a video on ND, variable ND and polarising filters and step up or step down rings. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Cool little light. But it's too expensive in my opinion. I would rather just have another 200. If they were 199... that would be something awesome. Also, it would be nice if they used the same battery as the 200. I get it though if portability is the top priority. I don't understand why the 300 exists. Love your videos and your energy!

OMG the 100 battery is so much nicer than the 200, and I would gladly pay extra to have the smaller size and weight of the 100. I love it so much I got 4 of them!
