This is truly the most portable high powered flash that's perfect for outdoors and traveling. The types of modifiers are endless, many of which are featured in this video, including ones you can make from basic household items lying around, even a hotel room. This is not even the Pro version! I like the original version better. Enjoy this fun joyride through the world of small outdoor flash portrait photography!

Markus, one positive thing I would like to point out here is that your beloved wife (of course the model) has a great patience, which is to be admired. She never becomes angry on you while you are explaining the things each time and down to earth cooperates. That's really appreciable. Rest, you are as good as you are every time. Keep it up. Thanks.

Another great video from this guy. He's an information machine. You blink, you for sure miss an important teaching. When trying to learn something from a KZbin video, I have to fast-forward almost the entire video til I find something useful. With this guy, it happens the other way around. I have to stop and watch again in order not to miss stuff. That's the way to be an efficient teacher.

Whenever a person in your position shares their skill and creativity, they have the effect of making the World a better place. Another important point about using the AD200 WITHOUT a softbox, and with just the 4.7 inch reflectors or a diffusion dome, is that it is *MUCH* better at resisting the wind! The softbox acts like a friggin' sail, catching all of the wind, and requires some weight to keep it from tipping over with any good wind gust. With heavy duty stands, sandbags are rarely needed when shooting without a softbox - which I love...😍

Hi Markus, here from across the pond in the UK. I watched this video a couple of days ago (I have an AD200 Pro) and have just used your trick with the improvised "snoot". I used the inner core from a kitchen towel (paper) roll, which fitted the bare bulb protector perfectly, and generated the lightning effect I wanted. Two small light sources doesn't create soft light. What is actually happening is that second light fills in the shadows created by the first light which lightens the shadows which are still considered hard shadows. A lot of people think that by lightening a shadow, it is soft light which isn't true. Soft light is characterized by the gradation of the edges of the shadows. The only way to create that gradation (soft light) is to increase the relative size of the light source only; there is no other way to create soft light. Still, this is a great technique to utilize. For new people to the photography game, we don't want to confuse photography terms.

If your light source is very light you can direkt the light with the movement of your hand - that's the best and easiest thing to do. Especially when you don t have an Assistant. Sometimes I m using a pocket lamp for diving for this job. It s very bright, light and cheap. Nice job Markus !

The world needs more people like you, so happy and enthusiastic. We have learned a lot from your content. Can you share what's the power ratio between the lights in the front against the light on the back to have an Idea.? Why you don't make a photography course or a lightning course (in Udemy or on your website? so we'll have a structured way to learn. that will be awesome. I'm totally in if you release it. Thank you soooo much for your work and Happy holidays to you and your wife. You are the best!!!!!

Great demo of how to get the most from the AD200s! I had four of them and figured they would be my go-to, but they just didn't work for my preferred style. I tried the godox mount modifiers, and the godox mount is really compact and could really improve the future of modifiers but I discovered after purchasing a variety of godox modifiers (softboxes and umbrellas) that although they are very slender and compact they seem to be much heavier than other brands so I returned them and went in another direction. I'm currently in the AD300 camp, using the SMDV 36" which is so compact that including the carbon fiber stand I use (I screwed a baby pin to the top of a 3 legged monopod), I can fit the complete light/modifier/stand fully assembled (the flip design opens in literally one second) and ready to go in a sling pack (usually sold for carrying a rifle but they are amazing for photo gear). It's also easy to hand-hold if you open the legs and rest them against your thigh. I certainly dig your demo of using reflectors with these lights, can't be more portable and wind proof than that.
@MarkusPix
@MarkusPix 2 жыл бұрын
I have an AD300 and the modifiers and found it too limiting in modifier choices unless of course using a bowens adapter which kind of defeats the purpose, plus it's bulkier and heavier than the 200. But I still like the 300, its still nice and compact... about as big and heavy as a flash can get while still hand-holding.
@tpe4ever
@tpe4ever 2 жыл бұрын
@@MarkusPix I suppose it depends on which purpose is most highly valued. If I have to choose between size and weight, I prefer lightest weight as long as it fits in the bag I have, or can be fit into a bag I will find comfortable to carry. It was a bit fiddly to set up, but I got the plastic bracket that allows mounting of the AD400 bowens bracket on the AD300. I was never a fan of clamp brackets/S2, due to their weight and bulk. I started out with off camera flash in 2016 using a speed light and a 28" softbox, then went to the AD600, later to the AD200s, then to the AD400s with the bowens bracket attached which I really liked aside from the weight, and when the AD300 came out with no-clamp bowens compatibility I sold off my AD400s as well since I now had a replacement with the same features being available at a lower weight. If I want to be even more portable I use AD100s, but of course those don't work with as many modifiers.

Eternally grateful! Learned a LOT. I will ditch my 48 octa for my 2 AD200’s, speedlites & umbrellas more often to get the “surround” effect. I wish you covered two more scenarios here: using these indoors and at night, esp. Xmas settings. You’d have made us instant pros.
@MarkusPix
@MarkusPix 2 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with a 48, its great for studio and indoor stuff, and sometimes outdoors if there is no wind. But when I want to move fast and light, I try to figure out ways to keep things very small and lightweight, which is why I like using the stuff in this video.

The content is helpful of course, but you're my favorite because of how much you love your wife. My husband died a year ago yesterday, and it was good tears to feel some sort of camaraderie with you, in that feeling that your partner is the most beautiful person in the whole world. ...you've definitely sold me on these lights btw, I've mostly been into video since getting my camera years ago, but just got my first speedlite a week ago, and oh my god, flashes are so cool. I think these are perfect for me, with the little umbrellas you like. I don't like big equipment either, it's a higher barrier to using it and there's literally no point if small stuff performs as well anyway!

Got my AD200 for Christmas and I love it. Great video. I like the way you break it down so it's easy to understand. I'm glad you don't assume all your viewers are pros. It's funny you should be shooting at the beach. You strike me as a cool beach bum kinda' guy. I really liked this video. Now I don't feel I have to spend thousands of dollars to get great pictures outdoors with a speedlight.

I ordered an AD-S7 while watching this video. I have a few of the modifiers featured in here and thoroughly agree with your appraisals of them so can’t wait to use this new one! Great video! Thank you 🙏🏼

Excellent. As a landscape photographer, I sometimes have a family member tagging along. The 4.7 diffuser option is great for me as I like to travel light and this can work for those occasions when doing family portraits.

Hi Markus - from the very cold and wet UK :-) Really liking your work - you keep it simple and realistic and I love your teaching style in emphasising the important parts of your light build up each time. Sincere thanks and Happy Christmas to you both

I started out learning about off-camera flash with the AD200. I picked up a second one and the adapter to use both of them at once really works Great for those sunny days. And as I started to learn more with off-camera flash I have purchased two ad600’s which I use for bridal parties and studio work. I was going to get the ad1200 pro thinking more power is better, but I picked up 2 more ad200’s and now I can add hair lights and light up the backgrounds with these ad200’s. They are great strobes and I only use the bare bulbs cuz the give a nice wide spread of light. I do like the 17 inch mini softboxes you used And I just picked up two of them while I was watching your video. Thanks for the great video as always. Happy holidays

Yeah me too. When I take my two 600s, I always have one or two 200s along to help. The 1200 is definitely not portable and overkill anyway.

Now Godox makes a 2400 watt version with two heads. 1.21 gigawatt version soon to follow, you just have to extend the lightning rod.
