8:37 Despite loving movies and creating stories I can't imagine having to make a movie for a huge blockbuster with the weight of judgement on my shoulders by millions of people. I hope Gareth learns to make films for himself because he's a fan too so he should be getting the same amount of joy we fans get and I would not mind him making another Monsterverse movie, especially after taking critiques from Godzilla 2014.

I think in the sequel they should follow up with placing Minus One Gojira into modern day and make him even bigger! They could say the recent healing factor exhilarated his growth and evolved his beam attack into a more focused weapon against humanity.

Great video! I completely agree with Yamazaki and Gareth when it comes to directing because I too know how that feels when I directed my short films. Even my friend who is an independent filmmaker knows that too. But Yamazaki pulled it off and in the end it payed off. I really hope he continues his filmmaking journey because he has such talent. I would love to see him do an Ultraman or a Gamera film one day. Whatever direction they’re taking for the franchise I’m certain the Big G’s future is looking bright. I really want to see a sequel to Minus One I think it has potential to become a trilogy of sorts. I know there are people who don’t want a sequel and I understand that. However I’m tired of Toho always rebooting the franchise again and again. I want to see where Yamazaki takes the story and the characters next because it ended very open ended. Plus they need to return in making Kaiju battles again but this time more raw and with depth to them. And if a sequel doesn’t happen then I’ll be totally fine with it yet a little disappointed. I’m curious to what the new director for the new MV movie might bring? Hopefully it’ll be something good and something we’ve never seen before. Plus establishing Godzilla more as a character and the world of the titans. I personally think they should go back to the more grounded route similar to G2014 and Skull Island. I just hope they use their time wisely with this new Monsterverse movie.

I would love it if they made a GAMERA movie! and in the end credits there was a scene linking it to the monster verse.. then we get movie featuring Kong Godzilla and gamera. BUT the GAMERA movie should have the Godzilla 2014 vibe..

Guess I'll throw in my two cents on how I view the current state of the franchise and where I'd like to see it go: Toho has been doing well with their releases, giving us two live action (i.e. Shin, Minus One) films that are not only good but are cream of the crop for not just Godzilla but kaiju cinema in general. Both have something to say, have a unique flair that sets them apart and makes them distinct in an idiosyncratic sense to their respective directors, and respect not only Godzilla but the origins as well (i.e. anti-war message, anti-government, cooperation, etc.). I would say that Toho should continue what they're doing - give different directors a chance to put their own unique spin on the g-man, but unfortunately that doesn't always prove to be successful. Of course, I'm referring to the anime trilogy and the anime series - both were horrendous and failed to live up to the quality of the two live action films. The anime trilogy is nihilistic sludge that has nothing to say (or tried to but failed epicly) and the anime series was more concerned with physics than it was with telling a good story. In short, Toho should focus more on live action instead of animation since it seems they have a better eye for directors of that medium than they do animation (unless Toho has an internal shakeup and gets new blood on board. Legendary/WB, on the other hand, have dropped the ball with the Monsterverse. It started out well with G-14, establishing a grounded tone and was very much a Gareth Edwards film, but unfortunately with Skull Island onward they went for a more marvelized approach with an emphasis on being loud, dumb spectacle and one liners/quips over a meaningful presentation like G-14 (wasn't the best in terms of story, but was good in terms of presentation/tone and the story didn't fumble, per say...was just bare bones). The prior two films by Wingard have shown that any and all investment is gone since it's just glorified toy commercials with no substance. And KOTM only barely edges out Wingard's films due to having a sense of scale, but suffers from tonal whiplash and bad writing in general. Legendary/WB needs to get back on track by hiring serious indie film directors who will continue an approach similar to G-14 but with more emphasis on building up a complex story with multi-layered characters integrated into a central theme (beyond the usual "let them fight"). That's just an overview, ignoring all the details I could go into.
