Here's my thing with Godzilla's attitude. While the attitude towards Kong can seem a little sadistic, he probably remembers the ancient war between their species and Kong utilizing an axe made from his kin was probably an insult towards him. And him hesitating to even go back there post KoTM until he had no choice from his exhaustion, he clearly holds a grudge against the species.

I do agree with your take on the MonsterVerse D MAN. The Monsterverse is a big part of my life as well. It takes a genre that is so old and makes it feel so fresh and new to where you don't have to watch any of the old movies of both monsters you can just go into this universe and enjoy each entry for what they are. do they have flaws? yes. can you easily over look most of them? yes. Also the fact that there's the graphic novels that are cannon expands the MonsterVerse in a way to where you get transported further into the scheme of things. As a fan of kaiju flicks...the MonsterVerse will always be all time favorite fictional universe. I can never get enough of it every time I take a dive into it.

Yeah, I think the part where Godzilla shoots his atomic breath into Kong's throne was super messed up from Godzilla, BUT there has to be a reasonable explanation for why he did that. If you remember, (which of course you do) Godzilla only retaliated when Kong activated that weird power source on the ground that gave power to Kong's battle axe. What if that was like a trigger that Godzilla has felt before, like a bad memory from a long ago war......PTSD BASICALLY! Kong's ancestors definitely used that power source to fight against Godzilla's species, whatever that trigger was for Godzilla, it definitely has something to do with that power source and Kong's battle axe.
@uohhhhhh693 жыл бұрын
Well said. I noticed that the moment the power source activated the dorsal plate from the axe, Godzilla immediately sensed it and burrowed to the Hollow Earth only to discover Kong holding such a disrespectful weapon. Loved the video. I had super high expectations for this movie and it surpassed all of them with flying colours. At the end of the day, it gave everything I kinda expected to see. The Monster Fights are easily my favourite of the entire franchise. The visuals and CGI are just brilliant and easily the best in the Monsterverse. The soundtrack is decent, though it feels like Junkie XL didn't even try with it, I loved certain aspects of the soundtrack. The Monsters are finally treated like actual characters in such a long time, seeing Kong scratching his butt and wondering around Skull Island going about his day Shrek style and seeing Godzilla act like a destructive force of nature and being scary was a joy to see And I'll never forget how shocked i was when I saw him laughing 😅. Mechagodzilla, was one aspect of the movie, I expected to hate , i really thought they were gonna treat him as just a random third party villain but seeing the way he rocked Godzilla and Kong and felt very similar to his Showa counterpart who was initially my favourite, was great to see. The hollow Earth was a really interesting aspect of the movie that I wish could have been a little longer. The human characters i think were actually pretty fine, sure some of them could have been a little better written especially team Godzilla and even Ren serizawa , but i didn't think we needed to everything about them, they have clearly have motivations and you get it and they just accomplish what they set out to do.Plus we have the novel to explain everything anyway. The world building has some questionable inconsistencies but it was super cool. Overall Godzilla vs Kong is a fun and action packed experience for me , it made me feel like a kid again and leaves a lot of great set-up for the Monsterverse going forth. It was everything I wanted and an experience I won't forget. My score :9/10

Here's how I would change the movie: -More explanation of the Ghidorah possession Too little explanation on what happened, even what they showed was a bit vague. Make it obvious. -Kong temple should be much more crude (but still equally epic) I can't see Kongs being this intelligent, it should look like a Neolithic temple but still be really grand. -Round 3 needs to be longer (and less lame) Like c'mon, Godzilla suddenly just wrecks Kong without trying even though he was struggling the previous round? Not too satisfying even though it was still epic. Here's how I would do it: Kong uses his remaining time before Godzilla wakes up to grab his axe, but it's out of power. Godzilla wakes up and immediately goes for melee hits, trying to avoid risking powering Kong's axe again, so Kong turns to desperate measures. He jumps down the hole and Godzilla follows, and then we get a massive Hollow Earth fight in zero gravity and what not, with Kong charging his axe with the energy to continue the fight. However, due to inexperience, Kong doesn't realize Godzilla can get charged up by Hollow Earth energy, so Godzilla practically goes Burning mode and explodes right before Kong escapes. Kong gets to the surface (bringing two axes), thinks he's safe, and then Godzilla just pops out of the hole and relentlessly starts pummelling him. Now of course to balance the fight, Kong sees Godzilla charging at him and gets ready because Godzilla is kinda slow (so that it's not a complete surprise), and actually gets some good hits in. However, he is injured from the Burning Godzilla moment in the Hollow Earth so he doesn't put up too good of a fight, and then gets rekt by Godzilla. Godzilla then blasts a vicious beam at Kong, who uses the axe to block it, but the energy is so much that the axe just melts and then the beam hammers down on Kong's chest for a good two seconds. (I can't see Kong surviving more than that.) Roar off happens, then it's over. -Godzilla and Kong vs MG To make things more interesting, Godzilla actually holds his own against Mecha well. Kong wakes up, literally doesn't see Jia standing in front of him, and immediately teams with Mecha to give Godzilla the most embarrassing beating of the entire series. Kong is about the drop the killer blow, but then Jia finally gets noticed and convinces Kong to help Godzilla (with actual good reasoning that Mecha-Kevin is going to destroy the world other than "Godzilla Not Enemy"). Meanwhile, Mecha, who just got knocked out the fight by Godzilla, gets up and is about to drop the killing blow, but then Kong betrays him and then the Godzilla/Kong team up happens. Also, since Kong brought two axes to the surface and one of them was melted, he still has an axe to chop Mecha to pieces. What do you think? I know it's a lot to read, I'm a very wordy human being.
@DMan19543 жыл бұрын
I think you make some solid suggestions. I really love the look of the Kong temple, but the Kong statue in it is hard to buy. I love it all the same, but I get what you mean. And some of the pillars in that temple are super hard to buy. I wouldn't change it though. As for round 3. I think your version is WAY cooler. The zero gravity fight is something I didn't consider, but it would be AMAZING. It's a huge missed opportunity now that I think of it. And I love seeing them go in and out of the Hollow Earth like that. It would be a little confusing how they get in and out. kong can climb. But Godzilla can't. So that's most likely the reason they didn't do that. If you think about it, Kong only fell the first bit up the Hollow Earth before gravity inverting and having to climb back to the surface. I like the idea thta Kong teams up with mechagogdzilla to put the smackdown on Godzilla and win that way. But I would have a hard time buying Godzilla teamin gup with Kong after that fight.

I wish the fight was a little bit longer of course that's what we always want but it did seem like it happened so fast. I mean I knew from the beginning that Godzilla was going to win this is his MonsterVerse he's King of the Monsters he took down King Ghidorah but I also knew there was no way they were going to let Kong get killed, I also like how they used the H.E.A.V. as a sort of automatic defibrillator it was also kind of an Easter egg for Kong getting struck by lightning and regaining his composure and more strength like in the original film. The team up was badass but it was also too short.
@DMan19543 жыл бұрын
The thing is, this isn't real. None of it is. All logic went clear out the window when Kong hopped 1,000 feet in the air and landed on a boat and it didn't break or sink. Godzilla also blew a hole to the center of the planet. This is all kind of... dumb when you think about it. So, the writers can clearly do whatever they want whenever they want. And because of that, the atomic breath doesn't have to kill Kong if it went point blank the way I said. It's a movie, they can write whatever they want. The MUTOs were fine (I know they were designed to be, but still).

@@DMan1954 I think it would have been really weird to see in the same movie Godzilla drilling to the center of the Earth and then blasting Kong in a similar fashion which would have probably looked very similar, and Kong being fine. I just think it would have tested the audiences suspension of disbelief just a bit too much. But very awesome review dude, it's so great to see someone being as excited about the movie as you are.

I loved Godzilla more than Kong (although I love them both), watching Godzilla get beaten up was also pretty funny to me but also so cool because 1: it’s Mechagodzilla beating him up. 2: D Man was right. There is something about your hero getting beaten to pulp that is just too cool and makes you feel tension

Well i still hate how the movie went, especially with what 2014 set up for the monsterverse and how it was speculated Godzilla would arrive on Skull island to confront King Kong but alas weve been brought to what GvK gave us. Not to forget the fact Godzilla weighs 164,000 tons and was crawlking on all fours jumping onto Kong, by then I lost all faith in what we could've had, with a more realistic tone franchise about Godzilla it would've made it all the more thrilling and anticipating to watch. Yet that idea was erased when they switched the director from the 2014 and a new one was chosen for 2019-2021. Alas there can only be speculations about how the monsterverse would have been if Gareth Edwards was never switched out.

I think Godzilla vs Kong is like a 6/10 for me but when Mechagodzilla and Godzilla where fighting one on one I was squealing and acting like a child still one of my favorite moments in all the Godzilla franchise

Great review. But sadly, the film is great, my only complain is that the film feels like a GAP. If you don't know, Mothra's egg hatch was filmed for GVK, and it was cut off due to budget! It's even in the concept art for GVK (posted by Adam Wingard). Other than that, it's a solid film I've come across. And this is also my second favorite take of Mechagodzilla (the best to me will forever be Showa, cause that's the true Mechagodzilla), I love his design (I even have the MonsterArts figure for pre order), I'm happy that he's back to be an evil bastard, sick and tired of heroic take of the character. And lets forget that crappy design from Ready Player One, that was just an advertise commercial crap. I give it an 8.5/10, only because I feel like there are scenes that felt were cut off. The human characters are solid (missing Dr. Chen, aka my favorite Human character of the MonsterVerse) but Madison could've been written better, the fights are amazing, the portrayal of the Kaijus are brilliant (wish Godzilla had more screentime), still great. It's my second favorite installment of the MonsterVerse (under KOTM). Also, are you looking forward to the upcoming MonsterVerse TV Series that's been announced for the last 48 hours?

The monsterverse movies remind me of the fast and furious franchise where they get worse with each installment but somehow more entertaining.

Been waiting for this for months! Good thing though, just when I thought the Godzilla vs Kong hoopla was over, it's all new again! Pretty much saw everything how you did with the exception of the characters. Waaaaay too many. Same issue with KOTM. I felt that Josh and Mark Russell could've been removed from the movie completely and it wouldn't have made a difference. Josh felt like a character written in after the final draft of the script was done, just to give it more appeal to Deadpool/Marvel fans. What I loved the most, aside from the action where the arcs of Nathan and Kong. Nathan started off as a douche but kind of fell into a good guy role, then ultimately ending up a VERY likeable hero. Kong started off in his peaceful life, then ended up pretty much being hunted by Godzilla, only to hold his own, save the day and return to his home. Great movie. Btw, they probably included Breaking the Law because Josh is wearing a Judas Priest shirt. I'm ready for another viewing.

28:11 it makes sense Godzilla did lose to one of Kong's ancestors back in the day so of course he's gonna be super aggressive and sadistic at Kong. 29:52 remember the axe was charging up and Godzilla sensed it 38:43 you know that can't happen if Kong died right? Godzilla's atomic breath is so strong it drilled to the center of the earth they can't do the roar off if Kong is dead. 39:20 again Kong would be dead if he got hit with the atomic breath. 41:33 that wouldn't make sense for Kong to do that 42:15 he was tired after fighting Kong 2 times and drilling to the hollow earth. And spent most of this fight getting beat up. Of course he's not at his best. Kong gotta do most of the work he's slightly fresh and ready to go 43:39 no realism keep it insane that's what I want. This isn't the dark knight 44:43 the concept behind Mechagodzilla back in the 70s to 90s to the 2000s are ridiculous but you can except them? Sorry dude but that's double standard. They made a super X in 1984 and you didn't question that. But here how can a cybernetic company build a giant robot 10 years after 2014? That's a weak argument 47:52 because there was no reason to do it. When the axe activated that's when he did it. It's not hard to understand

Really? You like Josh Valentine as a character? I mean the most pivotal thing he does is disrupt Mechagodzilla's wireless power supply for a moment. Other than that, he and the rest of Team Godzilla are passive characters. But of course, there's no objective rule that says active characters are better than passive characters in writing. Audiences just tend to engage with active characters because their actions are what move the plot forward. Personally, I would've had Rick Stanton from KOTM take Josh's place; he was definitely pro-Godzilla, and watching Rick and Bernie bounce off each other would've been interesting character interaction. That doesn't mean I wouldn't scrap Julian Dennison from the script entirely.
@DMan19543 жыл бұрын
That would be a really fun pair! I liked Josh because he brought a nice point of view to that story arch. I'm not a big fan of Team Godzilla, and I felt he did a good job keeping them grounded.
