Watches his best friend's and mentors get killed multiple times infront of him watches frieza kill practically everyone he knows accept for his dad while being completely helpless then lastly trains with his dad for a year only to be helpless while his dad sacrifices himself again. Logically fighting should be the only option he has whether he likes it or not 1 because he don't want to get whooped again and 2 doesn't want to be helpless when his friends get whooped. They really assassinated the prodigy character when in all seriousness come buu saga gohan should have perfected super saiyan 2 training with both piccolo and vegeta in meantime. Goku still gets ssj3 but gohans power would be extremely close in fact gohan squad wipes all of babodis guys. Personally I think videl beat down still would've happened but gohan just goes straight to ssj2 grabs spopovich by the throat flies away from the arena and either kills him or paralyses him. Vegeta would still go majin but gohan wouldn't be helpless in this situation since he'd still be stronger than vegeta. Somehow buu still gets released but events play out differently because vegeta goku and gohan are there they'd still go for 1v1 and honestly vegeta would go first and probably get absorbed .... If we being true to gohans character he doesn't fight cause he wants to he fights cause he has to. This was why he was known as the reluctant warrior
