Nothing beats the german law exam (Staatsexamen): You study for 5-6 years law and all your exams are not counting until your final exam where you have 5 hours time to write and you do this 6-8 days in a row. In order to pass the exam people learn around 1-2 years specifically for the exam almost all day long (it's called "repetitorium" from latin "repetitio"). AND after all: 30 percent STILL fail. If you fail you only have a second attempt. And if you fail again, you will be almost 30, have no degree and wasted 7 years of your life.

As someone who's preparing for the IIT JEE exam, the reason why very few get into IIT is probably due to the huge population of India. Each family expects their child to get into great colleges let alone IIT. Being one of the hardest exams in the world, IIT only wants those who stand out.

just like the ivy leagues, but remove the holistic admissions system and solely focus on academics. tbh its very bad, VERY BAD for the mental health of students. spending 12 hours a day sitting in one place studying with no time to socialize. that's why I am going for biology (not neet) and want to go to Oxbridge or the Ivy Leagues (Not some generic third tier American colleges which are trapping foreign students), just as prestigious, if not more so, than the IITs. Good Luck to you, my prayers are with you. You will get into IITs, just work hard.

And then there’s Cambridge exams. They are geared both towards memorisation and critical thinking, however, they put more importance on critical thinking. Depending on the subjects you take, as well as the exam board (yes, there’s multiple exam boards) is the difficulty of the exam. Some have multiple choice, most have structured questions, and a few have a practical or alternative to practical, depending on the subject and the exam centre’s capabilities.

In maths at Cambridge(UK), there are the well-known Tripos courses & exams(cf. Wikipedia); I don’t know about the modern exams, but in the 19th century, the Tripos course exams were done over EIGHT DAYS, with as much as about FORTY-FIVE HOURS TOTAL examination time. The Top students of the Tripos Exam are traditionally called “Wranglers”. Some well-known British mathematicians, physicists & scientists were top Cambridge Wranglers (e.g. W. Cavendish, A. You should look at Brazil's IME (Military Institute of Engineering)/ITA (Aeronautics' Institute of Technology). So , starting off , the exam gives you 4 hours to complete 80 MCQ's + essays (split in two days). The topics are: mathematics , physics , chemistry , Portuguese language (and literature) and English language. Some of the topics are Math - calculus (single/multivarible) , linear algebra , number theory and advanced trigonometry/complex numbers. Relativistic/quantum/fluid mechanics , nuclear physics , photonics , electromagnetism , and modern thermo/electrodynamics. Chemical thermo/electro/photodynamics , kinetic theory , modern chemistry and (in)org (bio/geo/biogeo)chemistry. That's just the first phase , by the way. We also have 3 consecutive days for those who were approved. Out of the 10k participants each , no more than 300 go to the second phase , which has open questions that have even more elaboration. If I forgot to mention , all of these questions are in Olympic level and you can't take this test with more than 21 years of age. Just so you have an idea of what the questions look like , I'm going to show a chemistry question (chemistry is the easiest subject in the exam): Consider the alkyl halide below , which reacts according to the Sₙ1 and Sₙ2 mechanisms: 2-chloro-3,3-dimethlypentane (Sₙ1, H₂O)→ intermediate 1 + Cl⁻ (step A)→ intermediate 2 (H₂O)→ product B ⇋product C + H₃O⁺ Draw the planar structural formulas of Intermediates 1 and 2, and Products B and C. Name Products C and D (IUPAC nomenclature) and the reaction that occurs in Step A. That's literally the easiest question in the whole exam (aside from languages/essay) and you have no more than 20 minutes to do it , or you'll not have time for the other questions. Other questions have demonstration commands , so you have to prove a property or prove that an equation is valid. That's mostly for mathematics and physics , but chemistry also has a lot of profound proof-based question. By the way , did I mention that Brazil has some of the lowest math/physics scores in standardized education tests? I mean , our students get out of highschool without knowing basic mathematics , like fractions and stuff. Yet , we have an exam way above JEE-Advanced and Gāokǎo.

Those public examinations are called 'oposiciones'. The Spanish verb 'opositar' means to prepare for and take those public examinations. All the exams you have mentioned have something in common: They 'can' be solved by using a wide range of cognitive skills (memory, logic, creativity, etc...). The examinations I mention require only 1 of those skills: memory. The rest of the required skills to pass them are psychological. You don't have to be a brilliant student to pass them, the real struggle is more psychological than anything else. I'll leave it here in case you are interested to dig more about these examinations.

What I feel is that the toughness of an exam is decided by the selection percentage. For example, Gaokao is considered the toughest exam because its the only exam Chinese students have to give to get into college, though the questions are pretty easy to moderate. About JEE, though other exams are available and infact GATE and SAT also have opened lines for fields but still, JEE tops in terms of numbers. Other exams are tough because of paper. I personally feel, US students have a variety of options so they divide themselves in all the exams rather than going after a particular one.

There are 80 questions in it. It was mainly a kind of a collection of riddles. So here's the question you've been waiting for. 64. The force of energy cannot be stopped if it is pushed or stopped to create small amout to no movement at all. It take Downfall to a large number for guest collisions and stopped the energy. Our med. school tested us at least once a week. When we took the USMLE we were told that ours was the second highest scoring class in the country. They were disappointed because the class before ours was the highest and I think the one before them was, too, but not sure. One of my lab partners had the highest individual score for parts 1 and 2. I did nothing to prepare for the MCAT because, after all, how can one? Your entire educational career is you prep. I aced it. In those days the scores were not disclosed to the applicants which placed us at a disadvantage. But one interviewer let slip that I had a perfect score. Bottom line: None of these tests are really that hard at all. I had exams in college that were much harder than the MCAT. So, if you are considering taking any of these tests, don't worry. As long as you were a competent student, relax, you will do well.

I'm currently preparing for JEE, and though it (Adv.) is already a tough examination, it checks how strong your basics are; formulas just don't cut it, you need critical thinking (Like there's this question we did this week, about parabola. It was just two lines long, but it's solution filled the whole whiteboard (it's a pretty big one btw), and you could not apprach it if you fail to apply the very definition of a parabola: locus of a point equidistant from a line and another point). What makes it truly challenging is the sheer number of candidates appearing for it (around 1,230,000 in '24) It's also biased towards Math. My senior (who didn't qualify in Advance but got 327 in BITS due to his experience here) got less than 90%ile in Physics with around 73%age, but got 94%ile in Math with 'just' 36%age.

16:32 Correct me if I'm wrong but this question is too easy. The MacLaurin/Taylor Series for e^x is 1 + x + x²/2! + x³/3! +..... None of the coefficients of x are zero. Therefore bk is always greater than zero unless you put x=0, which I don't think works since, in that case, b0 = 1 which is non-zero.

I have no idea if this is as bad as these 5, but entrance examination for top universities in Japan are absurdly difficult: - Kyoto University: less than 10 question in few hours, but many of the question are incredibly open and sometimes questions are very short (example: is cos 1° and sin 1° a rational number?) - Tokyo University: Tons of time-consuming question in a short amount of time, most of the time it's a battle with the time & difficulty of question (similar to JEE?) - Keio / Waseda University: top private university, famous for its incredibly niche question (ex. question: Which restaurant was Robespierre's favourite?) Btw we study for these exams from the 2nd year of high school, and top high schools end the high school curriculum one year earlier to study for these top universities' entrance examination

Things have changed a little now (at least in some provinces) and you're asked to take a pass/fail exam on 10 subjects (Chinese, Maths, English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Political Science, History, Geography, IT, fail one = cannot graduate) along with a Chinese+Maths+English/Japanse (out of 150)+three other subjects you choose out of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and History (out of 60, however three lines are marked and candidates between lines get the same score).
