I started with a PID and it can definitely be tricky the first couple runs but once you know how it works with your setup it’s ok, but I just finished building my new SCR controller a couple weeks ago and look forward to giving it a good run when I’m back from working to pay the bills! 🍻

If you know how to use your pid, you can program what percentage the pid control amperage to your heater element. It’s not 0-100% your can control that percentage. They call it tuning your pid.

How can you add a bulkhead fitting to run electric without removing the top of your 15 gallon 2” neck? I haven’t found a video on that yet.

We just welded a hot water heater element with a temp control into the bottom of our keg, works like a charm

@@kevinlong3992 it’s an electric water heater thermostat control. Pull one off an old water heater or get one from any home improvement store. Depending on how hot you can get the element you may need two of each, one may not get your keg hot enough

Hey Philbilly, love your videos! I was always taught low and slow on heating up my still. Do you suggest full blast? Sometimes I get tired of waiting, and think to myself, I should just crank it all the way up….Let me know what you think…

I crank it until it reaches the thumper then turn it down 25% then when it starts to run I turn it down until I get the drip rate I want

Just make sure you don't have any solids in your pot and you'll be fine and with an element you have to worry even less about burning any solids that might make it through. If i am not dripping in less then an hour i'm pissed off.

I perceived with a P I D til I was blue in the face I eventually drop kicked it out the back door and then made a 10,000wt capacity S C R, ( in layman's terms A power dimmer switch) and never looked back, you can dial in P I D's but I just couldn't be fukked.
