If nurses got paid $10/hr, how many nurses would jump ship into another career? Am I doing it for the money? Yes, but there are other reasons (like security, respectable career, helping people in need)

Another good video! Thanks! I asked my 17 yr old niece why she wanted to be a nurse and the only reason she could come up with is MONEY! Smh....poor girl has NO idea. I told her she need to research the profession! She didn't have a clue! I've been in the medical field/allied health for 16 years as a care aide in a nursing home, medical assistant, phlebotomist and vocational nurse and it's been tough! Especially seeing all the changes thru the years. I truly started from the bottom...I'm now approaching applying to RN school this spring and my head is spinning! LOL! Thanks again, I'm so glad I found this channel!

+Sam R Thank you! That's funny about your niece, but she will learn with time lol. And that's awesome that you're beginning to apply to RN programs now. I think having all of that previous experience is going to aid you big time when it comes to Clinicals. Best of luck to you and I'm glad you found the channel as well! Thanks for joining me for the ride! :D

I live in LA and I'm looking into my future and I would barely be able to buy a one bedroom apartment. I took the lowest paying I found which was $20.. I hope it's more. I will be a great nurse. I'm very talkative, friendly, and overall great guy. I know money isn't everything but I want a future, move out my mom's home, and not depend on anyone. Money is something to me because I want to help my mom out when in the future, she's sacrificed so much for me. The good thing about nursing, is that you can get you're mastor's and even doctor's degree and be set for life. I'm only 19, starting college in February and getting scared for my future. There isn't any other job I would want to have.

+Jose Lee I think it's a really awesome thing that you're only 19 years old and have such high hopes and ambitions for your future. It's a very good thing. And I definitely can relate to wanting to help out our loved ones and get them out of the hell that we all grew up in together. You know what that's called? That's called FIRE. You got that FIRE that burns bright. It's that flame that we protect and won't let get extinguished because it is that fire that keeps us going. Keeps us pushing forward toward that brighter future. Keep grinding and protect that flame. It will all be worth it in the end my friend!

I guess I'm different from other people just going for money. Where I live, nurses make 65-70k starting. If the money was crap, most people wouldn't do it. Money is definitely in there for me. But, I want to make a difference and provide awesome care and use critical thinking skills. I also love the body and patho so it works out even better for me. People who do it ONLY for the money will probably fail out of the program

Infinite Knowledge correct most nurse here i know their salary is 170kto 180k as a clinical nurse they all are able to afford a apartment or buy a home at least with rebt being 4 thousand dollars for 1 bedroom they wouldnt be able to afford it. they cant travel the world . with minium wage job making 1,000 dollars you will be struggling most go in this career for stability,opportunities and to live a good life . the dont go in this career because it their passion . growing up you been told what do you wanna be it a lie if you choose to do get into retail or becone a teacher you wont survive in today economy while everything is so high.

@Dylan Brewer I can't reply directly to your comment but hopefully you see this. I can't really answer that question because it varies from program to program. But I think it's awesome that you're already considering Nursing School. Just check with your local colleges that you plan on applying to and look at the pre-requisites they require. All of this information should be accessible online. Most times it's Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2, Microbiology, some Chemistries, etc. Good luck!

Money is one of my reasons. But not the only one. I want to go into Nursing because I feel like helping the community is my calling and I need a job that keeps me on my toes, moving around and helping others. I also want to be a Nurse because I am interested in field. I love how there are many fields in Nursing whether its ICU, ER , Oncology, Doctor offices, Travel Nurse, Etc. Right now I'm taking Microbiology and it's my last pre-requisite before I head into the Nursing program this fall and start doing clinical. I'm very excited. Because I always wanted to start clinical and be sent to nursing homes and hospitals. But yeah Anyone who is pursing Nursing just for the Money really need to Consider if that is something they want to do. Because a lot of sacrifices goes in when pursuing this career. And money isn't everything. You can have a job that pays you 100k a year and be very depressed about your job to the point that you might not even consider working in that job anymore.

I have to tell you... it's more than the paycheck. I'm a true caring person. I adore the respect of people knowing I care. At the same time, yes, money matters. But I would say a million times over, the reward of family just saying "thank you" and the feel and the look they give you is priceless. My five year plan is to become a nurse to become "self sufficient". So can we say it's a 70/30 or 60/40 split here?
@NurseBass9 жыл бұрын
+Michelle Wei I agree with you.

I agree with many of the ppl commenting here, while personally money is not the primary and/or only motivation to become a nurse, I do look at it as a great perk. I'm very fascinated by anatomy and physiology ever since I was a child. Today I'm 19 starting my second college semester of prereqs for nursing. Your videos are very helpful, thank you!

So i have studied psych and worked in various jobs but always wanted to do something health related. I felt nursing is the best because I actually liked going to the hospital but honestly it was also for the money. However, I do feel good being in nursing school and while feeding a patient I felt so good. But wanting it for the money is NOT a bad thing as long as you are doing it RIGHT.

moldoveanu8 people are going into nursing for the mo ey because following their true passion will not make them decent money and certain immigrants push their kids to become nurses because of stable job and you make alot of money . that why schools are flooded with nursing lotterey to enter the program because of the money .

I love this! I am in my 2nd semester of nursing school. I will graduate with my BSN in a year. I just created a blog and my next entry is going to be about this. Every time i tell someone I am going to school for nursing, usually I get a response like "Oh, yo'll make a lot of money"...It is sad that that is their first thought and it doesn't cross their mind that I am doing it for other reasons. The pay is just an incentive for me....Nursing is something I want to do because I love the work and I truly care about people and their well-being. would you be interested in reading my blog once I have wrote about this? And maybe you can give me suggestions :)

One more question (thank you in advance): I'm starting college for the first time in February. I will be taking my prerequisites for the nursing program at that school to get my associates degree. I'm going to then transfer for a bachelor's but that's after. I wanted to know how hard are the prerequisites classes? How many should I take per semester? Any tips you have for me? Can you make a video for this subject? Thank you so much. Your my favorite youtube nurse for keeping it 100 all the time.

Nurse Bass I like your video. Personally I feel when everyone is missing is the fact that people go to school in order to make more money Because their current job pays less And they’re not happy. The other Reason for going to school in advance for yourself is inflation in which you need to make more money in order to survive. 😆 But I digress, “Grades do not define you what defines you IS your Grind” In that video you talked about how hardwork brings about good grades. I feel this principal is the defining principle behind this video is: if you genuinely care and hone your Nursing skills the money will follow.

One reason a person shouldn't go into Nursing for the money is because there are a lot of professions out there where you can make more money if that is the objective. I agree that to be a nurse you have to care, that is part of the gig. I can't imagine being a patient and having a nurse who does the minimum and doesn't give a shit. I can only hope that if there is a Karma, that the nurse who doesn't give a shit ends up with a nurse just like that for one shift. That will be the longest 8-12 hours of his or her life. Be that as it may though, I have to say that once you are working as an RN, it may not be ALL about the money, but it IS about the money. The industry has low balled nurses for decades and the only way that wages improve is if nurses demand it and vote with their feet if they don't get it. I've voted with my feet many times for a better deal and in the process never burned a bridge. You owe it to yourself and your family to get the best deal you can.

Here’s my take away from your video. The ability to take pity in another person’s illness and say if I was in this person shoes I would want help Is the first priority you should always have when choosing a professional like nursing or any other healthcare profession. Sympathy plus empathy equals compassion. The second point is from this effort the money will come.

You can always tell when someone is in it for the money. I've already figured out one of the girls in my class. She's failing everything, she has a horrible attitude, she doesn't care about anything and the only reason I can even attempt to come up with, for why she is even in the program, is the money. It truly makes me sad. I hope she figures it out that nursing is not for her before a patient gets hurt.
@NurseBass9 жыл бұрын
+Krystal R Yea, most definitely. I haven't seen any of it in my program, but my wife has told me stories of how she had a few in her graduating class. It's sad, but it is what it is. I know money is a big factor when one is actually IN the profession, but the motivating factor for ENTERING the profession shouldn't be money. But that's just my opinion lol.

if you are in nursing and dont have genuine concern and compassion for patients, and are all about money i think you will be a miserable soul indeed. Money is nice to have, but so much is more meaningful than money.

I want to get into it for the pay I won't lie but also I love people and I want to take care of my patients I want to help people enrich lives for the better and if that means no pay for over time because I want to make sure my patients are happy and well taken care of then so be it but a small reason to be a rn is for the money that way I can provide my girl with a good home and take her out and spoil her with gifts as my way of saying that I love her so much and with a lawyer in the family now we got to round off some how lol
