Pat Pattle was probably the highest-scoring Western Allied ace of WWII. Official records of the last few weeks in Greece were lost, but his total score could be as high as 60 enemy A/C destroyed. He achieved 15 victories in a Gladiator and the rest in a Hurricane. Quite an achievement considering he was using rather obsolete planes, armed with no cannons but only rifle caliber .303 Browning machine guns, and on many occasions shooting down significantly superior machines like Bf 109s and Bf 110s. He is considered the highest-scoring ace on both Gladiator and Hurricane. Rest in Peace legend

Pat achieved his successes against the Germans in the Hurricane, when flying Gladiators he fought against the Italians with likewise inferior planes. Nevertheless a real ace with around or over 50 victories. A real loss for the RAF then. May they all fly in heaven together.

Hi guys! So because I changed PC, the 'Going Solo' text at the start of the video is different. I also want to make it clear in case someone complains; no, this is not really a map ofAthens but a modified version of the Kuban map. I was also not able to get my track IR working on my new PC annoyingly, but no worry. Please enjoy the video!

Interesting, where did you find this info?
@oliverbraun49663 жыл бұрын
@@airwarchronicles German command was very cautious when it came to air victory scores, units had to keep a war diary. Most unit diaries of that time have survived ( in this case that of JG 27 and ZG2 ) and most clashes and fights are thus well documented. There is quite a number of post war documentations about the air war from German side and most are fairly accurate because based on those diaries.
@JohnyG293 жыл бұрын
However, they did count 22 German plane wrecks. Clearly the German records are not entirely accurate, which is unsurprising considering how much was destroyed at the end of the war.
@oliverbraun49663 жыл бұрын
@@JohnyG29 Considering the practice of documentation in German units I don't think so. And who has counted those wrecks claimed here ? Greece was still occupied by the Germans, so the English went there later on after the liberation to count wrecks ? Highly unlikely they did so.
