Hey guys, no worries at all if you decide you want to skip this week’s video! This is really only for those of you who tune in regularly and are here not only for the "ups" but willing to ride out the "downs” with me on this journey. I think sometimes it’s easy to perceive ✨vanlife✨ as a carefree lifestyle…and while yes, often times there is a lot of freedom that comes with it-trust me, I still have many, many cares. Thank you so much to those of you who watch to the end. I do not take for granted all of your kindness and support. I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can to catch you in the next one ♥️ (For anyone else feeling like their new year into 2022 has started off on a rocky road, just know that you’re not alone and that I’m sending you so much love from afar. Hang in there! I can feel better, brighter days are coming…)

Anna, you have been through a lot as a young woman! I have been watching you for a while, although haven't commented until your last few videos. I could probably be your mom's age and as a mom of a 30 year old son, I would just encourage you to just know that life has it's twists and turns as you know, but I see in you have a very strong, caring, loving soul. Faith can walk you through so much and I encourage you to do what you are doing, because you are a very intellectual young lady whose heart has experienced tremendous loss over the years and I would encourage you to allow yourself the time to heal, cope, grow and shower love on those who mean the most to you in your life. You have a wonderful group here and so many are lifting you up because they love you and cherish who you are and all that you share...YOU'RE an "Old Soul" with so much more to give. God Bless you and Keep on Keeping On! 😇🥰🙏

Here's a big internet hug. Dealing with the loss of a parent and then other parent gets sick seems like throwing all the pain, grief, etc. in a blender. (At least that's how it felt to me when I was in that situation over a decade ago.) The pandemic just seems to turn any other challenge up to 11 or 12. Thank you for sharing your struggle. Family and self first. Take care of you. A helpful analogy about self-care - As a former volunteer firefighter/EMT we trained on keeping ourselves safe so that we did not become a victim needing aid or rescue in whatever situation we were in. So help your Mom, but find a way to have time to deal with your emotions, etc. and not wait until later, avoid letting it build up and cause further struggles. You seem like you're on this path the way you present yourself, so I hope you are managing your stress and grief as well as you appear.

Larry, I love the words you leave here so, so much. Sending you a great big hug right back. 🫂 Your blender example and analogy feel so spot on inside for me. I used to bottle up my emotions so much as a kid and teenager. I guess you could say I’ve grown and spun myself in a complete 180° way over the last good few years. I’m still learning and growing and trying to figure myself out (I imagine I’ll always be doing some of that)…but yeah-it’s so important to tend to our own hearts and not forget to check in with ourselves during times like these. ❤️

@@annauncharted I'm glad it was helpful. I just sensed your need for encouragement. You're doing great! I'm sure that your Mom appreciates all you are doing. As far as figuring oneself out, I'm 57 and still trying to figure some things out. We're all just making it up as we go with the information we have available. My own health challenges that came up during COVID really grabbed my attention, and I found a clarity that I never seemed to have. I had my prostate out due to cancer almost 18 months ago. I had MAJOR existential anxiety waiting for surgery. However, it was cured just by waking up from surgery. All blood tests have been good. I was really thankful that my older son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter (7) live with me. COVID changed their plans to move out when they were on their feet. So I know how much your Mom appreciates having you there. Then I got diagnosed with diabetes almost a year ago. It runs in the family, but I saw how my Dad would eat a huge bowl of ice cream every night and complain how bad he felt. I don't like feeling gross and just falling asleep in my chair, so I was motivated. I changed my diet and got down to a once a week injection in about four months and amazed the doctor with how well I had my glucose under control. My vision also got better. Things are going great now, other than my 100 year old house is really freakin' cold right now! (I live in Kalamazoo, MI) I've got plans to try and do some long term truck camping this summer if COVID isn't still a major issue. I can work from anywhere with an internet connection, if that goes well for a week or two, then I can go longer. I plan to take off every Friday this summer for three day weekends so I can maximize my explorations. If it goes well, I can potentially sell my house and live cheap to bulk up retirement savings. Best of all I can have warm toes in the winter since I can travel South! I had the idea to live out of an RV & travel and work while driving home after my younger little brother had a stroke and we nearly lost him about 5 or 6 years ago. That's when I stumbled onto RV life on KZbin. I watch all kinds of channels to learn what works in different situations for different people. Even if it doesn't work for me long term, I want to see parts of this country I've never seen and visit family like my grandnephew who will be two next month and I've never met due to COVID and visiting my aging aunts and uncles I haven't seen in years. After being cooped up by the pandemic and other health issues, I'm just ready to get out and do something different. Time to stop taking notes and dreaming about it and act! I think you have the right idea to do all your travels while you're young and healthy. Sometimes I get the thought that maybe I waited too long to do this. But every RVer of every age and other description does it, often with less than I have, so I'm sure I can do it too. Again, thanks for sharing your adventures, thoughts, learnings, and struggles! You're an inspiration to an old(er) guy like me. (As are many RV life KZbinrs.)

You know as I sat here and watched this video, I sometimes think we as KZbin viewers (myself included) forget that people such as you a KZbinr have lives outside of what your channel is all about. So, for you to come out and share what I think is very private, emotional and consuming is very BRAVE of you and is probably what you need to help you during this very hard time. Just know even though I don’t comment on all of your videos (but always give a thumbs up) I do follow you and you have been kind enough to respond to two of my comments. But, first and foremost while you are taking care of your mom and taking care of your dads stuff…make sure you are taking care of you. As much as you love and are taking care of your mom and need your mom…she needs you just as much. So, a healthy Anna is going to make for a healthy mom. I will add you and your mom in my prayers tonight and my morning prayers. Take the time you need and your true followers will be here when you return to your travels. Stay safe, get warm and just know that God has already given you what you need for this season in your life. 🙏🏾😊

Mel, I’ve read your message over and over probably about 4-5 times now. Grateful, happy tears are welling up and I wish I could better express how comforting and helpful your words are to me in this present moment. In the past it’s certainly been all too easy for me to pretty much forget about caring for myself while I’m trying to be there for everyone else. (It often wasn’t a great thing in the end.) I really am striving to be better about not forgetting to care for myself alongside caring for the people I love. Thank you so much, I feel seen by you and I’m so immensely grateful to know you’re here.

I've been an "Adult Orphan" for almost 2 years now, and the stuff that you are talking about in this video is still very strongly-relatable for me. I realize that your situation is different from everyone else's situation, because life is so unique for each person. But there are similarities that bring healing and peace to us when people such as you discuss them. Peace to you.

I really appreciate you sharing and I resonate deeply with your words. You’re absolutely right that life is so unique to each and every one of us but it really does help and make a difference when we’re able to share from time to time and be able to connect. Feeling understood, seen, and heard by others…even just one other person out there can be both comforting and reassuring.

@@annauncharted Books could be written about many peoples' experiences and emotions doing the simple tasks of winding-up affairs of a passed-away person. Whether it be emptying a storage locker, or turning-in an ID card to a government office (my own emotional moment), those simple tasks are packed full of meaning and can have lots of slow lingering time. I was my wife’s caregiver when she fought Triple Negative Breast Cancer and then 12 years later she had a benign Brain Tumor. I learned that you just love them no matter what… they might get angry, and sad but know that they love you and not take it personally. I got my wife two therapists one that we both went to and discussed everything, and one just for her. We also got a Naturopathic Doctor to get her body ready for each phase of treatment s going through breast cancer. She is lucky to have you, and you be kind to yourself. Every so often I had to get a break and do something fun for me. Those days her other friends would come over and I might go and see a Movie or visit friends. It won’t do her good or you get run down, God bless you Mom, you raised a wonderful, beautiful young lady…it’s all we can hope for. Dave

Hey Ashley, Thank you so much for your thoughtful and encouraging words. They really mean so much to me and inspire me to continue this weird, wild, journey both out there in the world and on here with all of you. In the beginning, when I first started making KZbin videos, I really wondered and often doubted myself and the stories I wanted to share because it felt like for whatever reason it wasn’t common, or normal to share the realness and just be honest (especially if it was more on the messy side rather than the beautiful). I still struggle at times-I’ll admit I was very nervous to publish this video. But thanks to people like you-like I said, you inspire me to keep going and pushing forward. ❤️

Tears have a wisdom all their own. They come when a person has relaxed enough to let go and to work through their sorrow. They are the natural bleeding of an emotional wound, carrying the poison out of the system. Please dont ever worry about showing these kind of emotions. Everyone will experience this at a time in their life, its inevitable. Posting this takes great courage, and as a father I would be so proud of my child for displaying this kind of strength. You and your mother are in my thoughts and I hope you can continue making cherished unforgettable memories, vanlife or not.

Thank you so much for these words. When I was younger I really struggled to find ways to deal with my emotions in a healthy way. I wish so much it was more normalized to cry in our society…because I agree so much with you that tears have a wisdom all their own. In some ways I feel like it took me a little too long to figure that one out. Having a good cry to work out pain, grief, sorrow…doesn’t make one weak…it makes one human. ❤️

This is all very tough and then dealing with your Dad's stuff too! I completely understand. I think overall you are handling it well. You are strong! Very strong! Sure you are crying, I was wanting to cry too! Maybe that is the sudden shock of this happening so quickly! I am so sorry that at your young age you have already dealt with so much and it is difficult again. I think you are a positive person. Isn't it wonderful that you came all the way home for Christmas. Isn't it good that you had some issues with your Van and you ended up staying longer and you were still home! You are being such a good Daughter for your Mom. Isn't it wonderful that you have the flexibility to take care of your Mom! I know it is hard. The greatest gift that Daughters can give their Moms is caring for them. Moms and Daughters are close. Your Mom took care of you, now you can take care of your Mom. As hard as that is, it is a Blessing! Concentrate on taking care of your Mom. Take one day at a time. Definitely do not worry about "your people"! I do not believe that any of us are going anywhere. It's too cold and snowy. 😊 We have to stay home! You stay home too! As long as you are needed! Healing prayers 🙏🏻 for you as you support her and also as you work through your Dad’s stuff. Allowing yourself to grieve and process your pain is so important and there is light at the end of that journey, just you wait. I will be here through the ups and downs of your journey. Do what you need to do and don’t forget to take care of yourself as well as your mom. I’ll see you when you publish your next video. ❤️❤️ Love and prayers for you and your family!

Man, I remember all this emotional stuff in my twenties. Thank God they ended. I think most of us can say that the twenty-something angst drifts away and life becomes more assured as times go by. I never believed anyone who told me otherwise, but it definitely became true for me.

Hi Anna. So sorry to hear about your Mum BUT great they’ve caught it early. Lots of positives in what you shared, but I completely understand what a bombshell the news is when it comes out of nowhere. Thank you for sharing this. I know it must have been hard to do. But far more real than all that social media ‘perfect van life’ stuff out there. Being authentic is much more relatable. Glad you know to take time out to make space for yourself and your Mum. We’ll all still be here when you feel it’s the right time to share again. Prayers with you and your Mum. Peace.

I want to extend my arms out to you and your mom for a spiritual hug for what she is going thru and what you are going thru as well. It’s hard. I know. My dad had Cancer. He’s gone. My mom is gone. It’s a lot of emotions for two years. I too were their caregivers. So yep, I can imagine. Prayers prayed for your mom and you already. Keep journaling your thoughts and getting them out. You’ve inspired me to journal again and I’ve even ordered me stickers for my pages of my journal. I’m no Hemingway but it’s my way of getting thought 💭 out of my head. So thank you for the inspiration❤️ Remember to also care for yourself. Caregivers forget to do that a lot. Do be kind to you. Chin up. Trust God has heard your prayers and been present for your conversations with Him. Ask Him in…He will show up…He loves you both and calls you Beloved. Bye 👋

It is easy to be flippant and glitzy and when people ask just say I’m fine. Thank you for sharing and as others have said you are in my prayers. You have not run away! It would have been so easy to jump in your van and escape ( fight v flight) and buried yourself in some wonderland of nature but you have stood your ground. That shows a great maturity of person and soul. You are facing your giants and I applaud you. Physically pat your self on the back and tell yourself you are doing ok. I have just had my 64th bday and here in the UK we are in another wave of COVID. My wife was diagnosed with cancer in October 20 just at the height of another wave. It was the scariest time, but it’s all gone ok. The medicines they have now are so target specific and they took such care and we as a family have kept her safe. We are now building our van so we can travel the UK ( bucket list to visit every county) and elsewhere. When you lose your mum or dad you stack their stuff because it’s too raw to deal with, then over a few years you get rid of bits and pieces that suddenly no longer have that significant attachment. A picture for you … when your boat feels like it’s leaking and sinking and you can’t bail, look up and see all the friends around you with their fingers in the holes keeping you afloat. You have a large community here giving back to you what you have given to them.
