Bruderhof schools seek to provide each child with a happy and constructive childhood. This includes rigorous academic instruction aligned with the educational requirements set by law. We also provide instruction in craftsmanship and practical skills, singing and the arts, and we support unstructured play, sportsmanship, and the experience of nature.
In addition to academics, our curriculum emphasizes respect, self-discipline, and a strong work ethic. But what matters most is that children develop their capacity to love by caring for and serving others.

I must admit I admire the Bruderhof. They have kept Jesus at the heart of everything they do but from what I have seen kept the kindness and humanity of Christ’s teaching, which others have not. God Bless you and thank you for posting.

Everything is communal and free in their community. Everyone is hands on and serves.

It is free. Everything comes from the community and everyone works hands on together.

@@user-lx7ul5ft7y But they still have to pay for things outside the community. That one girl attends college in New York City which would require tuition. I think his question is how do they pay for things outside the community. Did the girl have to get community approval and then the money comes out of communal funds? Does she have to work a job in NYC as well to help pay? The NYC college isn't going to take "you're in the Bruderhof" as payment.

When someone replies it is free, they mean that it is free to the individual because the community pays for it. All those in the community contribute to the community in some way, or several ways. Some people contribute by getting college education and applying it in medical care or community owned businesses, for example. But young people are free to explore and find a future path they feel is the best fit for them personally. They are free to develop their skills and abilities, and they are looking for ways to put these skills to use, making the world a better place.

I am from Scotland and here too University education is free (as it is in most European countries). What is sadly lacking here though is the sound Christian foundation we once had.

Theirs IS a form of homeschooling! The entire community is like one large family and every child knows every adult, so to speak. Hight School is a bit different, in the sense that, although it is a community-run environment, some students are "away from home". But, again, they are in something akin to a homeschool environment.

On the website for the foundation for international communities it says the children at their Australian community are home schooled.
