For our first highpoint in about a year and a half, we took down the final highpoint outside of the west - number 40 out of 50. This video was filmed on July 26th, 2022.

We need more high point videos they are the best. It’s interesting to learn about and see the views of the hike. It’s also amazing that this is a father and son bonding experience. It’s awesome that you and your dad share a common love for the same thing.

I can’t believe I missed this video drop. 😮 I was so excited to watch this one! Congrats on getting the Eastern half of the states done! 🎉 Notes on this video: I wish you would’ve said something (while showing the town or afterwards on the couch) about needing a pass to get into the park (similar to how you warned others about Illinois being off limits most of the year). (Some people look at your videos to get helpful hints on how to do these hikes.) The racking focus shots around the three minute mark are awesome! Also, I enjoyed the moving video of trees passing by, then cutting to video of you hiking. Nice sequencing! At 4:18, were you playing “hide and seek” with your dad behind that rock? 😉 At 7:30, the shots of your feet stepping on the boulders really puts into perspective what the final part of this hike is like. “Careful where you step” hiking. Great POV shot! Nice job! -------- You are right, hiking down was tougher due to risk of falling downhill (which I did once…scary!) and more fatigue (for most people). I’m excited to see your hikes out West (the ones I have done and more so the ones I have not). Hint: get the chest strap GoPro back out (like in your older videos) because you’ll probably be using your hiking poles. And make sure you have enough battery for Whitney and King’s Peak! 😉 Cheers! -David

Thanks for your thoughtful comment, David! Always nice to see your input on these videos - you have been around for the long haul. I appreciate all the tips and I especially think the note about needing a parking permit is a good point. I definitely should have thought of that because it's not really complete as a "guide" without it. In some ways, that's the most difficult logistical challenge, at least considering the amount of cars that were turned away that morning because they didn't know about that requirement. I will definitely be sure to include some of that logistical information going forward. In any event, I'm also very excited for the western states. It should be a great time! Hopefully this coming summer is a chance to make some good progress out west. Thanks again for the comment and hope all is well

Dude this video was a banger great to see you back at it again. Fixing to hit ups the highpoints in northeast myself! If you don’t mind me asking, what camera do you use to make your vids? The quality is so crisp.

Even though I hiked down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon to the Colorado River and back up with roughly the same amount of elevation gain of 4000 feet that you experienced (a 1000 feet less than to the north rim), your hike looked much harder because of the boulder field. I would be to afraid to try this hike.

Must feel like quite an achievement finishing the East of the United States. Maybe in the distant future you could do the Canadian provinces and territories.

Totally! In general those tend to be more logistically difficult - despite being fewer in number - because a good number of them are literally in the middle of nowhere but you never know!

@@grtshw Mount Carleton (New Brunswick) was a very fun hike and it isn't far from Katahdin. Probably similar in difficulty to Black Elk Peak.

@@grtshw BTW, I've also done Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Prince Edward Island, but they are all basically just drive-ups. Might attempt Ontario and Nova Scotia at some point. They both appear to be very long hikes with lots of bushwhacking. Newfoundland looks like it might be fun, but it isn't a provincial high point (the provincial high point is in Labrador, near the Quebec high point).

What was the temperature like there during the hike?

It really wasn’t too bad! About 60 degrees in the morning at the trailhead. At the top, it was between 50 and 60, but with significant wind around 20mph at times, so it felt colder. Still very bearable though! By the time we got back down to the trailhead at the end it was about 72 degrees there.
