@@TheTeehee11111 your correct in that the remaining energy is disbursed in the fragments but that's how the round was designed. Most frangible ammo is designed for stopping power and not penetration, the fragmentation of the projectile is how it's done. That being said that's the reason why the first bearing split the way it did, the shock from the energy of the bullet found a weak point and split the thing in twain as opposed to the other ammo that was more penetration than stopping power and tossing the bearing off the stand.

Some interesting things happening here: 1) The first ball was defective, and if you look at the cause of the Silver Bridge collapse, you'll see it was due to something similar (possibly a tiny crack that over time allowed deterioration to the point of failure). 2) Even though it's defective, the way in which the ball breaks is a good example of how the old HESH (High Explosive Squash Head) ammunition worked. It wasn't a high explosive round, but because it was just a ball round it transferred its energy into the ball and popped it apart. No, this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't defective, I'm just saying it's still and interesting view of how a HESH round did it's job by transferring energy rather than penetrating the armor directly.

Awesome Video. With the Chromium I figured it would be either minimum damage, or catastrophic failure, seeing as how it's hard AF, but brittle past certain a pressure curve.... Not a lot of give in it's crystal matrix. When the 1st one blew in half, my first thought was "manufacturing defect"... Good to know that they caught it in QC and set it aside. Giving it to you was making the best of a bad situation. Goes to show, it's not just about energy ft/lbs, but the material involved and method it is applied.

Would love to know what Rockwell hardness those bearings are.

@@mikemills69 you didnt look in the right place if you just Google Rockwell hardness of spherical roller bearings and give a rough dimension and you might have to do a little bit of specifying on the fact that you’re talking about the individual bearing not the entire outer race, inner race, cage and multiple spherical roller bearings inside of a bearing yeah they’re not creative people who name this stuff but if it helps they are really fucking hard I was a millwright and we didn’t have a tool that could scratch them the only thing we could do when we were playing around was smash them and whatever we used to smash them would end up with a hell of a dent in it
