The original seems to mush everything into the center, but I like how it seems to make a lot of the details like that jaw harp(?) at 0:50 easier to pick up on. The remix makes it more boomy and widescreen sounding but something in my brain likes it less.

yeah you touched on something that I forgot to talk more about. The original sounds like mono and the remix sounds like stereo. That in itself makes me wanna pick the remix, but I get what you are saying about the details being lost...for me, it's a compromise i'm willing to make though

I like the originals a bit more in the intro because they seem louder and more powerful but then in the remasters they seemed to improve the song throughout. Very interesting piece of information with the sound technology limitations in 2005 too. Prayers for your channel to get far more success too brother

Yeah this is a definite full remix from scratch. I remember reading this is the first album they produced themselves, saying they had no idea what they were doing and later they remixed it while working on From Mars to Sirius. If you compare the two albums they are composed very differently but individual elements like the guitar sound is extremely similar.

They made the bass more in the front. You can hear the bass wayyy better. More treble too it seems that has been added

A little more lows and highs in the 2003 version. My audio drivers on this PoS computer are f*cked, so it's hard to tell. Also seems like those highs and lows "switch" between different songs in the different versions?!

I like the original, full range, crisp, clear and crunchy! It's like they just cut off both ends of the EQ curve. Anyway, I was first of the last short but got comment blocked somehow.

@@metal_helm Man, this one is complicated. I took your suggestion and got my headphones out and blasted it and relistened to the clips several more times now. I hear what you're saying about the guitars, it seems they split and panned them much harder with maybe a few extra milliseconds of separation where the original seems more center focused. It's still though cutting off the note clarity and full chord structure that comes from the highs in the EQ curve and muddy's it up. The remix seems to bring the drums more forward and clearer I think but with my bias toward choosing which one would I want for pounding through the subs and separated mids and highs in the truck, I would choose the original. I only want the kick drums and bass guitar coming through the subs, not the low chugs necessarily from the guitar distorting the bass. I want guitar to be land prominent in the door mids and A-pillar tweets, crispy, clear but also with the gut punch of some moving air.

I think in the "remaster" they backed off the treble an amount? The guitars very high frequencies are noticeably, to me, not as crunchy.

I think the 2005 sounds better overall, but I do kinda like how in your face the guitars are on the original.
