Chris, I love watching your videos. I have watched a lot of them in the last 6 months, while I waited for the doctors to figure out what is wrong with this aging body! I was terrified they would never find anything, and they would tell me, "it's all in your head!" 😉 They finally found a tumor! It has been removed! Because of your videos, I have added gold panning to my bucket list. I am 70! So, thank you for your videos!

I don't know why anyone would be in a hurry to process/pan gold unless that is their only source of income. To me it's a hobby and I enjoy doing it. Same with metal detecting, I see so many people in a hurry do to an area, then I come right behind them and get all the goods they missed. I enjoy looking for treasure and taking my time doing it.
@VoGusProspecting4 жыл бұрын
Thats not the point of the test. I should have explained better. Gold hof said their pan was just as fast as sluicing, but my tests show it loses heaps of gold and its just an over priced gimmick. So i showed in this film that you can faster than a sluice with a regular pan and not get ripped off. It was never about moving dirt. You would get exahsted doing this all day.
@Manuelslayor4 жыл бұрын
Hey. This is a hobby for me as well. Hoever i live somwhere that does not have a lot of gold! Even if you search the prime spots in a river. For me thers about 1 litle speck of gold in 30 - 40 pans! Having 1 or 4 specks of gold at the end of the day is a big diference on how fun it is!

Great video Chris. You are totally right about using your hand to make your panning faster. My good friend Jesse from Vic's gold panning showed me some tricks with gold panning. When he would talk about gold panning competitions he would tell me to use my hand to get rid of all the big rocks after stratification. Then he would pan it down enough where he can be able to to see the gold. He would usually get 1st or 2nd place in the gold panning competitions. Just because of his trick. I can pan a whole pan with some material above the pan in a couple minutes. I have been gold prospecting for 8 years now and have gotten better and better at panning. Also I have learned so much about gold prospecting. One thing my good friend Alan who got me into gold prospecting is research. 90 percent of gold prospecting is research 10 percent is actually getting the gold. That's what I did and have learned so much. Keep up the great work.

Thats how I speed pan too with a extra water filled pan. Classifiers are useless for a pans. When panning I usually place a big rock on the opposite edge of my panning pond and smack the front lip of my pan back n forth off it as im agitating and stratafing with one hand helps drop the heavies faster. Just somethin i do

I've put a wire grate over a big rectangle plastic concrete mixing tub. Put tub under water at angle, put sliding grate classifier over it and load it with gravels, clay and rocks. Five or six shovels or more. Break up clay and shake off large rocks and boulders. Get a good amount of concentrate and shake it to bottom mixing tub and take off top. Only do this where there is a lot of fines. Get a lot more gold than panning or sluicing.

Great video mate, always assumed panning in most cases is more efficient than river sluicing (so long as you're using a decent sized pan) but great to see it properly tested/proven -- you'd really need to jump to using a good highbanker to make it worthwhile and even then, only if there is sufficient amount of paydirt. Perhaps a good fluid bed sluice (if sufficient water flow) would work okay as well but they're expensive and rarely are the conditions right to be able to use one properly.

Now compare to a highbanker... But yeah totally get your point, at that price point knowing how to pan quickly is probably a better idea than investing in a sluice, at least in terms of gold take. Great vid & well explained. I pan the same as that - as soon as I can tilt the pan slightly, I do. Work that gold in to the lowest edge & anything above it is overburden - wipe off with back of hand. Garrett 15” pan with the 2 deep riffles - very hard to lose gold... Watching people take 10 minutes to pan frustrates me 😜

Big fan but I do have an observation from my end. When you were first stratifying in your speed run you were much more aggressive then when you were looking at losses into the other pan. Have you tried to see what your losses are when you are more aggressive in your stratifying into a tub, then panning that out? It seems to me before the heavy particles have a chance to fall through the other material it is being washed out over the edges. Especially with fine "mustard" gold.

IMO using a sluice isn't just a matter of efficiency it's also a matter of ease of use. Panning out the same amount of material is far more physically intensive. If you can spend more time because you're not exhausted or blistered makes a big difference in how much gold you take home at the end of your day.
@1313nate4 жыл бұрын
Danger noodles are the worst! Out here we have heaps of rattlesnakes, and water snakes. This past summer I was out with a friend of mine working a creek and he warned me that there was a snake behind me. I looked and thought it was just a branch so I moved a bit closer and NOPE. Danger noodle and out of the water we went. Also, didn't know rattlesnakes could swim until last year.

I picked up 3 random bits of quartz while out fishing, when I got home I crushed them and panned it, I found about $10 worth of gold in those 3 bits about palm size rocks.
