Balfe is such a wonderful actress . Her work in Outlander is a major reason I watch the show. I was happy that folks outside of the fandom got to see her brilliant work in Belfast. I hope she will hang in there for as long as the series runs. The fact that she has never been nominated for an Emmy says more about that antedeluvian entity than her talent. She is amongst so many stellar actresses who are egregiously overlooked for awards. For me, it is absolutely of no importance and does not diminish the quality of her work in any way whatsoever

They were so lucky to cast Caitriona! She is such a thinking actress. She figures what the character is thinking and feeling and portrays it so well. It really is written all over her face. I love to see how she will portray all of the emotions. She works really well with the directors and writers who thoughtfully recreate the Outlander world Diana Gabaldon has written. And even when they write something into the story, such as the ether, it feels like something that Claire might have done. I hope, hope, hope she will carry it all the way to the end of Diana's series of books!

That was a substantial, meaningful interview. She, of course, is brilliant, and it was great to hear her talk about real topics instead of some of the fluff she gets put through (entertaining though some of those are). The interviewer was skillful and genuine. That’s what we need with a colossal talent like Catriona. Most enjoyable.

Love your interviews Rob. It helps when actors who are doing so much press all the time get to have a thoughtful conversation with someone who understands how to elevate a discussion. The OL audience is very intelligent and I for one love Caitriona’s interviews because she is always so present and so engaged when she responds to questions. Please let her know how much we appreciate her taking the time to give us these little nuggets of insight into Claire.

Caitriona is really the star of the show. She is brilliant - not only in her acting (she was also amazing in Belfast) but generally. Her interviews are so real and intelligent. You can see that she is a thinker and curious about everything.

Thanks Rob for another great chat. Caitriona always contributes such insightful and interesting angles to her roles and performances, and thanks to your great questions we all get to share them. Alas I remain bitterly disappointed at her Belfast Oscar snub, but she is so grounded and focused on what is in front of her there is no hint of what's in the past. Outlander's next season will arrive in time and we look forward to your future discussions (along with Paula of course!). Thanks!

I know a lot of fans complained about the ether. I thought it was a great choice. If the gang rape had happened to Claire in the 20th Century she would have probably seen a therapist or psychiatrist and been prescribed Valium. Claire in the 18th Century took what was available, and that was ether. Maybe I feel that way because my mother became an anesthetist in the 40's. All of Season 6 was amazing. The book was packed and everyone did a brilliant job of choosing what to show. The last scene was fabulous. Outlander is the only TV series that keeps up its original quality, but often goes a step beyond. 6 was as exciting as 1 when every moment was a surprise. As an extremely picky viewer who worked in script analysis and then development for years, I greatly appreciate the hard, conscientious work everyone puts into it This interview with Caitriona was the best one I've seen. The interviewer ask such intelligent, insightful questions allowing Caitriona to share her intelligence and depth. The fluff interviews drive me nuts, although I think Sam sadly gets more of those.

Another delightful conversation, Rob. Thank you! I always enjoy your thoughtful dialogue with the various interviewees. I'm glad you mentioned Claire and Bree in the diner. For a scene of a few seconds it was incredible. (I suspected it was a double as the hands are not the same.) The dress brings the disassociation back to the core of the episode, Claire's memories of and contrasts to her life in 20th Century Boston are immediately evident, and Bear McCreary underpins that with a brief fragment of astonishing music. If you don't recognize it (I didn't, but sought it out) you feel it first. Then, when you listen to the lyrics it's the thematic arc of the entire episode: "Suffering with My Heart" encapsulates all the anguish, guilt, self-recrimination and torment Claire has been holding since meeting Jamie. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJepiad7eNuXh8k

The scene when Claire opens up to Jamie was probably the most realistic portrayal of what the experience of major depression feels like. The guilt, the shame, the complete loss of self. I have had repetitive episodes for 35 years. All of them feel unbearable, but the first, when I look back, was the worst. You really feel as if you're going, or have gone stark raving mad.

Yes great interview, but it still niggles me that neither Sam nor she has been recognized for so many awards and recognition for which they are more than deserving. I still go back to her description of the dismal conditions and dismal salary both received in the beginning, especially working 10 months out of the year--16 episodes!! They were young and green and it seems taken advantage of. I think of popular series on American tv and know that their workload and the expectations are so much less in comparison. There will never be another Outlander nor an onscreen couple like Jamie and Claire

What a refreshing candid Interview, Rob obviously researches his subject matter! no embarrassing questions or, interrupting with silly quotes that often creep into the conversations, Caitriona is a very articulate person she is always a pleasure to watch and listen to…..I have never once been disappointed for one second with the Jamie & Claire story that Diana Gabaldon so brilliantly wrote, I have been captivated since day one 2013. but I have to admit season 6 with the ether story line choice ruined it for me, to end such a unique show with such unique stars as Sam and Caitriona was beyond disappointing, however i’m looking forward to S7. God willing! Caitriona’s quote ‘We aim to please ‘ was never more true…. ‘Outlander’ is a phenomenal series with an all star phenomenal Cast and Crew! thank you 🙏 Rob and Caitriona for sharing a delightful interview with us 🥰🥀🤗

It was really a very well conducted interview and I think Rob watches the series for himself. He asks exactly the same questions that we fans ask ourselves, e.g. how it was for the pregnant Cait to shoot the c-section. Intelligent and profound questions and so were Cait's answers. Really refreshing to see this interview at a high level 👍

Great interview. The end makes me think there might be a big pause after this season. Takes DG at least 5 years to write an Outlander book. I’d almost rather that happen than them outpacing her material like Game of Thrones did.

I understand why Caitriona is talking about the ether journey the way she is. I may be wrong, but I think she’s making the best of the situation. Anyway her statements about “people having these kinds of responses to trauma” is true. But, this is a story about Jamie and Claire specifically, and this isn’t the way Claire actually responds to her trauma. In the book, she responds in a way unique to her, and Jamie Fraser responds uniquely to her, in a way that is so believable to those two people and so consistent to their characters. It really is far far more interesting and personal, than this cheap, sensationalist, “for the good of the viewing public” type of approach in the season 6 of the series. I’m really disappointed in this choice. And also Jamie’s very uncharacteristically limited involvement in this part of her life (in season 6). I love the other seasons generally, they are unique, personal, beautifully filmed, nicely paced. This season 6 was not paved well. And specifically this ether journey choice was a bad one, I feel. This doesn’t have to do with Caitriona’s work though. She is an amazing actress and did the best she could with this script. ❤️

As much as I don't like waiting for new seasons I would be ok with them extending the breaks between them. In that way the actors can get a breather and Diana Gabaldon will have more time to write the books before the series catches up to the books. This is a taxing show for the actors and crew to be a part of and I would rather they do it in a healthy way than for anyone to drop out because it becomes too much.

Are they done with season 6.?? Really they where only 8 weeks. And they scanned over a lot of the book. I've read all the books. And they need to go into much more detail in the TV series. They could do a lot of look backs into the past to clarify the present.
