The ban definitely contributed to his mental decline. It wasn't just about the money lost, he basically lost all his reputation alongside it. Obviously he wouldn't be throwing himself off a bridge the day after he got banned unless he was already in a bad mental state to begin with. Hard to say without knowing him personally, but the ban very likely started a downward spiral that eventually led to the incident. It's not like the ban happened years before, it was only like 6 months prior.

To add to the Payday crossover: Payday 1 also had a crossover with Left 4 Dead, they released a heist set in Mercy Hospital pre-plague. I remember seeing in the promotional material for that heist that they were doing a crossover with Valve because L4D was such a huge influence on Payday. This was around the time these got added to CSGO, which makes me think the CSGO maps fell out of that somehow.

Something that no one is talking about is I remember that theres a certain map that has RNG per round, so like in one round a door is closed in the next its opened, I remembered this because it messes with bot pathing so sometimes bots would just stuck in a closed door that opened on random rounds. Also about bot, I always noticed that certain bots has preferred guns to buy on older counter strikes, like bot nammed Calvin who's always buying p90 whenever he can.

When I first found out about counter strike (it was in 2008) I always tought source was gonna be the last cs, somewhere in 2013 a csgo dropped out, and my pc didnt handle csgo, which made me be stuck on css, later I found about cs 1.6, somewhere in 2023 I found you and I become a huge fan. The "De_Inferno Children.wav" file is most likely a reference to Half-Life 2, because on a area in the beginning of the game there's a playground and sounds of children laughing, even tho there was no children. That's because reproduction was entirely halted by the Combine and thats why children didn't exist so most likely those were laughs of ghosts roaming in the area they died in. Might be a similar tale with inferno.

It's so great that people recognize DM becoming a standard game mode. I was an admin for BAILOPAN waaay waaay back in 1.3/1.5 days with a few other friends like lambda and deft0ney. I think I should explain the part about CS being banned in Brazil. You see, the reason the game was banned here was because of the map "CS_Rio",this was a map made by Brazilian fans of the game and took place in a favela in Rio de Janeiro.The government at the time did not like this, as it felt that it was "influencing young people to enter the world of crime" and because it was "disrespectful to communities and victims of shootings.".I remember that it was a big deal at the time, especially in Lan Houses, after all, the owners were furious knowing that they were losing a lot of customers because of it.

One missed topic is CSS v34/v91/v92. Basically, cracked versions of CSS have a very active community of (mostly Russian) modders, mappers, and players to this day. It's like a parallel universe of the main counter strike scene because none of it is connected to current versions of CSS or even Steam.
