CILLIAN MURPHY winning made me soooo happy. He’s a masterful actor, has been for years & his layered performance in Oppenheimer is the gift that keeps on giving every time I re-watch it I find new things to find in his role. Definitely one of my favourite performances ever. I’m so glad he won. 🏆 👑 All the Oppenheimer wins were the highlight for me. Favourite film of 2023 by far! It was a brilliant cinematic achievement deserving of recognition in my eyes. All the wins tonight were really wonderful. And I thought everyone spoke well & gave us some memorable speeches despite being rushed off. Congrats to everyone 👏

I agree about Cillian Murphy's Performance. Reminds me of how I felt and still Do, about Liam Neeson's performance in Schindler's List. Each time I've seen that I get so much More from Mr. Neeson's performance!! I'm glad he was nominated, but he Should Have won the Oscar, in my honest opinion. I Hope that Murphy OR Giamatti wins Best Actor at The Oscars. Both Highly Talented, Brilliant Actors!!💕💯

God the host was HORRIBLE who even was that guy, why was he given the duty of hosting We went from having Ricky Gervais and Amy Pohler+Tina Fey, to... this guy ? That small little comedy bit Kristen Wiig and Will Farell did was leagues ahead of what the host did in the whole show

Sketch comedy people are always going to be better than stand up comics at hosting and running an awards show. (Hence Will and Kristin doing well). Exception might be Ellen, but she had sitcom experience.

I’m really happy for Oppenheimer’s wins! RDJ and Score seemed like two awards in the bag from the get go for me, but seeing Cillian Murphy win was great as it seemed like Bradley Cooper may finally win, eventhough he wasn’t better than Cillian, we know how awards love to give people their due, even if it’s not one of their best performances or work. So Cillian winning was great and of course seeing Christopher Nolan finally win not just Best Director but Best Picture was the best for me. I hope this will translate throughout the award season as I’d love to see Oppenheimer constantly win award after award. Thank you for the video Brian, keep up the great work and take care!

I have mixed feelings about Maestro. I’m happy that Cillian won. It might lack in the makeup transformation or require a flamboyant performance, but is consistent, singular, complex with emotional payoffs that I just didn’t get with Bradley really. He’s an exceptional actor, but I feel that he went, almost, the Bohemian Rhapsody route of telling a queer man’s story through the lens of a hetero relationship. It’s not to say that the marriage didn’t have its significance, but to brush off his side relationships as mere frivolous affairs is rather insulting. Matt Bomer could have had a much more meaningful part but it was cut short, a relationship between musicians.

I really don’t think Jo Koy was that bad of a host. Was his monologue the best? No. Did all his jokes land? Nope. Is it the worst we’ve seen? NO! He clearly knew he was bombing because he kept to the wings for much of the show. At least he had some self awareness and stayed out of the way. The unfunny banter between presenters was FAR more egregious. Some of those just went on and on and on. (Kevin Costner and America Ferrera, wtf?)
@idakristinedemesa5234

Jokoy had 10 days to prepare while previous hosts had several months to prepare. He had to watch all the shows and films, write a script off of it, collaborate with the writers and rehearse. Ask any comedian, and they’d tell you it takes hundreds of hours to rehearse and perform to perfect a 10 minute stand up comedy. Any comedian will definitely not have the confidence they usually have given the preparation constraint. Add to that the stiff, humorless intimidating crowd. Yeah, that was a tough room for Jokoy.

Well, the reality is the Hollywood part and press no longer runs the show it’s Dick Clark productions that owns it I think the reason why the nominations were spot on, and the winners were spot on is because they’ve been creased the golden Globe voting membership from 60 white people to 300 people and it’s ethnically proportionate. I do believe Audrey day This seem like it was produced by Dick Clark productions. It’s more about trying to be entertaining instead of just getting the awards out there Audra Day and Jon Batiste were hysterical. They should host next year.

I was super hype for all the acting wins (crossing my fingers for Cillian at SAG lol; like you said BAFTAs is his, but I also need a SAG win to feel secure about the Oscars. I wouldn't be mad at Paul swooping in, but I do hope it's Cillian's). I was hoping for Past Lives to win. I adored that movie so much (it and Oppenheimer were my favorite movie-going experiences last year). I know this channel focuses on films, but I love The Bear...that category fraud of being in comedy tho because Succession (which I also love) was not going to lose at all in Drama is bleh lmao.

I thought it was a total embarrassment. The host was abysmal, and he was keenly aware that he repeatedly bombed, as noted by the silence in the room and the dismal looks on the faces in the audience. From reading acceptance speeches written on scraps of paper, to time-wasting, unfunny banter between presenters, to a ridiculous "People's Choice" category, this was not a good start to awards season. I'm not quibbling with the winners - just the production itself.

Honestly not blown away by Oppenheimer at all. It's fine, but overrated. I think Fat Man and Little Boy told the story better in less time. Plus I felt like I was watching a 3-hour Mexican jumping bean. Did any dialogue moments last more than 1 minute before Nolan flashed something across the screen like dancing atomic particles or shooting stars or Florence Pugh's gratuitous boobs? It was like a "quality film" for the ADHD generation. Did Nolan hire someone with a stop watch to say "OK this talking scene has gone on for one minutes - someone might be looking at their phone! Time for a light show to distract them! Quick!"

Jo Koy was awful. We don't need a host, just bring out the presenters. They should have shown clips! Presenters should have read the names with less banter. They cut off speeches way too fast, like we want to hear the winners, not presenter banter. Why was there no In Memoriam? Cool winners overall thanks to those new international Golden Globes voters. I just wanted Sandra Huller to win for Anatomy of a Fall, but I'm happy for Lily Gladstone. Anatomy of a Fall winning Non-English Language Film & Best Screenplay was awesome. The Best Supporting Actors I would love to give one giant award to all of them. They were all fantastic. Picking one in this case seems random to me, but this is when popularity kicks in and RDJ has the narrative. Cooper's going to have a long season of watching others win I'm afraid. I feel bad for him cause he's not the first actor to jump at a biopic role in hopes of winning an Oscar. Many have done that in the past with success. But he's no more entitled to an Oscar than any other actor who's never won (coughcoughGlennClose).

I think Murphy is pretty much a lock for the Oscar. You're probably right about RDJ, but i hold out hope for Charles Melton. If Sandra Huller doesn't win for Anatomy, she was robbed. Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest are my two favorites of 2023, but i don't expect either to take Best Picture. It'll be Oppenheimer. It's more commercial (and way better) than KOTFM and more serious (and marginally better) than The Holdovers. Maestro is toast.

I just saw Poor Things this past weekend. IMO it is very accessible for an "art" film because of its extremely straightforward and linear storytelling. TBH I was expecting a more complex movie. Even what I think is the turning point in the movie [SPOILER - the boudoir madam telling Bella that living a solely id-led life would lead to darkness] is handled clumsily in 2 lines, almost throw away. Hence the screenplay (while good) is the weakest link in an otherwise creatively-rich movie. By comparison, in Anatomy of a Fall, the screenplay IS the film and the film IS the screenplay. Well deserved win.

Danielle may win at SAG or even BAFTA. I honestly don’t know how Best Actress could play out. Sadly Fantasia is out. She’ll still show up everywhere as the 5th nominee tho. Other than Critics Choice, I don’t think Margot will get in anywhere else besides maybe SAG. I think Natalie and Sandra will round the out the Top 5 at the Oscars and it’ll be: Fantasia, Natalie, Sandra, Emma and Lily and I think Lily will win. Edit: thanks to the person who pointed out the Sarah mishap lol. Auto correct kept changing Sandra to Sarah for whatever reason.
