Did anyone else really appreciate the energy and enthusiasm with which Jack Quaid and Zazie Beetz read these announcements? So often, the chosen announcers read off the nominees in a staid, somber tone. These two actually sound excited about the films and performances that earned nominations. While I was more pleased than dismayed by this round of nominations -- Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret was never going to get any nominations, however much I loved that film -- I'm disappointed to see the continuing tradition of shutting animated features out of every category EXCEPT Best Animated Feature. Joe Hisaichi's score for The Boy and the Heron was deserving of a nomination in every way; instead John Williams gets his umpteenth nomination for his score for a mediocre film. Also, Greta Lee? ROBBED. Celine Song? Likewise in the Directing category, though at least she still has a shot at a Screenplay win.

I’m completely happy with Oppenheimer’s 13 nominations. I really think this is Christopher Nolan’s year to win finally as well as RDJ’s. I’d love to see Cillian Murphy win also as well as the score, cinematography and editing. I’m sure it’ll win in technical categories, but I’m happy overall, even if it didn’t get the Visual Effects nomination, though that’s mainly due to it not getting on the short list and there’s been quite a bit discussed about that on the interwebs. Thank you for the video Rob, keep up the great work and take care!

@veronicaa.1416I'd add Best Cinematography to that. Oppenheimer is more or less a lock for Cinematography too. Also if the Academy has any sense it would leave with Best Editing. Oppenheimer will leave with atleast 6 Oscars. Best Picture Best Director Best Supporting Actor Best Cinematography Best Score Best Editing

Our chorus sang a work about Bayard and he was such an unsung hero of civil rights and gay rights. People do not realize just how important this man’s contribution was to our country’s history. Really loved Robbie in Barbie.

I was annoyed she got snubbed. She got nominated at every precursor but still got snubbed by the Academy. Same thing happened last year with Viola Davis in The Woman King.

Saddest moment - No Willem DaFoe😥 Second saddest - Where was Alexander Payne? Surprised at a prediction I had made months ago. Napoleon for costumes. Do you think it's possible with what looks like a late surge for Nyad, that Benning could win? She's well-loved and may be the alternative choice for people who may not want to vote for Gladstone or Stone. Or they are dividing the vote and she could slip in.

It seems to me that people are upset at Benning's nomination more than anything, with many saying she stole Robbie's spot. I doubt she will win, she's 5th place here imo

Nominating Barbie for Best Picture & not nominating BARBIE herself is Crazy !!!!! 😡😡😡😡

I think it just comes down to genre bias. That’s the only explanation I can think of. I just don’t get it😭

For America Farra I believe the reason she got nominated because of a double whammy. Because she gave a solid performance Dumb Money. For double whammy think Jamie Foxx: Ray and collateral Terrance Howard: crash and Hustle & Flow Jennifer Lawrence: hunger games and silver lining playbook Matthew McConaughey: Mud and Dallas buyers club.

I’m baffled she got nominated for that movie but not Margot Robbie. Margot Robbie was so much better.

@@laurajones1773 I agree. But I haven't seen Nyad so I can't judge it that was a better performance or not from Annette Bending.

Really hope Godzilla Minus One wins the effects category. Could you imagine what that would actually do to Hollywood’s special effects teams? Maybe it will make them realize we want quality CGI and not just CGI!

I'll have to go back and check my records but I'm pretty sure I didn't see a single thing that was nominated this year. However, I do want to see that short animated film called Letters To a Pig. Because it's called Letters To a Pig. And that title is now my everything! 🤗

I want lily to have more roles so this doesn’t need to be her only real shot at an Oscar (it’s very lupita nyong'o to me, like I’m glad she won I just wish she would get more parts/chances like Emma stone etc)

Unfortunately, Bl@ck actresses usually don't have muscles at the box office domestically and internationally. Some exceptions such as the comedy 'Girl's Trip'. Their own community rarely supports them, just look at The Color Purple. Taraji P. Henson complaining that she doesn't get millions for her work? Well, its because her movies have all bombed in which she was the lead.. The Color Purple underperforming at the box office will further push Bl@ck actresses back.. We will see Da'Vine Joy Randolph being offered more roles but will she be offered leading roles in big budget movies?

@@MadameCorgi Because KZbin will censor and or block any comments that they think is offensive towards the Bl@ck race.. One can no longer have an opinion about this group of pe0ple.

To see Past Lives show up in both Best Picture and Original Screenplay, Greta Lee's snub in Best Actress makes no sense to me.If they weren't gonna nominate Margot Robbie, then they should've gone with Greta instead of picking Annette Bening

I should have known that Triet was going to edge out Gerwig. Recently the directors branch has been swapping out the biggest earner (Villeneuve, Kosinski) for an international film (Hamaguchi, Östlund). This year is a little different since another blockbuster (Nolan) and another foreign language film (Glazer) made it in, but those were always locks. Always. I think it came down to gender. Gerwig and Triet both did a fabulous job, but I think voters might have felt like voting for one female director was enough. Who knows?

Thank you for your reactions! I watched early this morning, but it was way more fun to revisit with you. I was chuckling at Napoleon nods right along with you. Sorry Greta didn't get in. But screenplay and Best Picture are awesome for Past Lives. Sad for lack of Andrew Scott (that would've been a lovely and well deserved surprise.) Also am sad Willem wasn't included. (I know there wasn't room...still sad.) Still need to see American Fiction and Zone of Interest (and all the docs and shorts) but feeling really informed about this year's nominations thanks to you! Can't wait to hear about what you are seeing at Sundance Brian!
