Good to see all these outstanding young men and women who are embarking on their LE careers. Despite what some in the US say, law enforcement is an honorable profession that requires courage and strength of character. Just remember, what I used to tell my new soldiers. Training is the easy part. The hard part is when the blood is real and the ammunition is live. Still, focus on the training because the training is what will save your life when things do get real.

How does the police department decide which academy you attend? For example in Oc it’s either Oc sheriff academy or Golden west

I don’t work for golden west, but certain departments have academy they send their recruits to. Some departments have their own. LAPD and LA Sheriff’s have their own academy. If it’s a smaller department, they have to send theirs to one of the academy.

It depends on openings in the various academies. If a police department hires an individual but the main academies next class is completely filled up, they will try and get that person in any next available academy class. For example, you saw some Hawthorne recruits. I know Hawthorne uses LA County Sheriff’s Academy so they probably didn’t have an availability class for those recruits. Obviously Golden West was their next available class. Some will use Orange County Sheriffs, and Rio Hondo Police Academy as well. Which ever has the next closest class starting is the academy most cities will use.

My first impression on watching this is that it's conducted like a military drill. This might have made sense back in the Korean war or in Vietnam, but it doesn't make sense in our own streets. While I understand LE needs to be prepared and alert to deal with any situation, getting prepared for urban warfare might be a tad bit on the exaggerated side.

I’m not sure if the things the recruits are wearing are part of training, but some instructors are masked, some aren’t, and and there’s no rational rhyme or reason. Not at all a knock on the officers or recruits; we all had to put up with a bunch of nonsense over the virus hysteria. I was in the military, thankfully now out, and I had to put up with mask bs so the navy could virtue signal about how much we followed the science. Sorry to be negative; otherwise a great video and thank you to those who put on blue every day to keep us all safe!

Oh ok. I see what you’re saying. It was very inconsistent, I agree. It was ridiculous time for everyone and different departments handled it differently. Hopefully we never have to go through that again because many of the things we all did, made no sense.

Instead of yelling and pushups etc maybe spend some time teaching/learning problem solving instead ? I am somewhat confident that police training in other western countries doesn't look like this. Outdated military mentality.

@@jonathanAli87 I retired 2017 after 32yrs. Those things should be within the recruit already as well as physical fitness. I did not have this style of training and turned out fine. I stand by my dumb opinion 😁
