Good finds appear to be diminishing at GOODWILL because the GW stores (within the nation) send their best donations to their online stores. People have not stopped donating nice things, just don't see them on the Goodwill shelves.

I remain hopeful as the only way they will know what to send into for the online stores is if the employees give enough of a fuck to search through the dono's in that regard. I have been going to a few of the stores near me that have high turnover due to this, and have noticed plenty of nice things on the floor.

@@foulintentions3334 I used to be able to find military jackets of all branches...not any more. I used to be able to find gaming systems and accessories...not any more. The list goes on...They have average clothes, over priced to the point, you can not turn a decent resell profit. I guess, if you want to shop for your own store...go to GW online store. I find myself pulling away from the GW stores, and finding other resource outlets.

Agreed. I used to spend $30-50 at GW each trip with multiple trips a week. Now I can hardly find enough to spend $30 a week there. And prices are insane. The ones by me don't even have glass display cases anymore.

@@goldenstatepicker I lived in Salt Lake City for 23 years up until a year ago when I moved back to Idaho. In the last five years I've become an expert on Mormon literature, much to the hilarity of my Mormon friends. I sell to some of the biggest collectors in the world of such things, as well as the Mormon Church from time to time (they buy anything they don't have). It's an interesting book culture and it's fun chasing some of the rare stuff I've found. Have had a lot of people just turn away from it, though the competition in Utah for the books was pretty vicious (and fun). I also deal in 78rpm records and Edison Diamond discs (recently purchased 18,000 store stock Diamond Discs). Another thing people turn their noses up at, the vinyl crowd that is. Funny and fun stuff. Great video. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Funny i tell my buddy the exact same thing. If something sells for say $5 in bulk numbers and it's kind of boring and something else sells for $5 and it's something everyone wants like detergent, it's still the same money (i sell at auctions weekly and flea markets). I sell anything that will sell... Money is money i tell him, $5 is still $5 no matter the item and if you sell 20 of them both that's $200. Sometimes i only break even on an item, rarely, but after awhile of doing it i know what the crowds here will buy. Selling is easy, sourcing is the gold...
@JLStanton1968
@JLStanton1968 Жыл бұрын
@@dewdew34 I deal in 78rpm records, a lot of which regular dealers won't touch, saying there isn't a market. Well, for one, I get them very cheap. Two, I get them in bulk. And three, there are people who like them and will buy them. But you have to do the work, post them, etc. I do nicely and have sales all the time of these products because I'm usually the only one selling them. Also, it doesn't hurt that I have a track record of being very strict on grading so people will buy from me before they will others. I've picked up FBI pins, designer dresses (I know enough to be dangerous if the price is right), even a large umbrella I bought for $100 and flipped in a day for $400 on FB marketplace. Knowledge is power and the older I get, the more I know and use. I was in Salt Lake for 23 years and got to know a lot of the sellers and their specialties. Making small talk while waiting for a sale to open, I learned a lot which I'm using now in SE Idaho. I'm also networking. Get to know others who deal in items you don't and exchange numbers. I've found others stuff and they've found me stuff. Having allies is huge and having a good relationship with the estate sellers is just as good.

@@JLStanton1968 Absolutely. I've sold lots of things to specialists for a nice profit knowing they will do well too. Connections are gold too in terms of moving things you might have to sit on for awhile. Having space is important. 🙂I did buy some 78's of 50's artists in binders in great condition at our local auction to resell, i need to dig them out... If you have Hibid auctions in your area and haven't used it then check it out. I find some deals on vintage items.

Yes I am having a difficult time sourcing items. Live in the southeast warm weather climate and for some reason garage sales are very scarce and the ones there are seem to be people cleaning out Knick knacks or selling regular minimal value stuff they don’t use to make an extra buck to offset the overall rising prices. Not much at thrift stores either and there always seem to be a lot more resellers looking for items so competition has increased. Fortunately this is not my primary income source so I don’t have to worry to much, just keep plugging along and find what I can. Absolutely love your content, your positive attitude, and you professing your faith!
