Castellane was one of our favorite villages. Stayed there for 3 nights in a great Airbnb. Walked up to the Notre Dame du roc. Took a couple of day rides one to the gorge. Love this area. Packing cubes are a godsend. Couple of reusable shopping bags to carry things to the room are great. Colleen’s side is always more problematic to close as well😂. The road coming down the mountain from the west to Castellane was amazing. Rode that same avenue of trees. We navigated around rain as well and were mostly successful that’s the benefit of “winging it”. Again enjoying the B roll. Even the Hydro stations had razor wire we wondered if there is some grid security protocol. I am waiting to see how many speed camera fines I receive in the mail.

I have two permanent panniers only on my Rocket 3 Touring, no top box, so I put a Kuryakyn sissy bar bag on the luggage rack as well. I did manage to get some pannier liners made for mine (well, there was a small company in the US that made them briefly) and they're so perfect for travel. You pack the pannier liners chock full of stuff, and then as you pack the bike you just open the pannier lids, drop in the pannier-sized bags, strap the bag to the bike and go. Reverse that in the hotel. So there's basically no loose bits, just three bags. Even though my panniers are in some ways less cool than these... at least they are top loaded. So unlikely to fall open and spread my stuff along the road. Probably the Wing panniers are secure too but they look more precarious when stuffed! 😂 Either way, great video. Wish I were riding in south of France now instead of sitting home in the dark frozen north.

Another nice tour video, liking the balance between on and off bike footage. Is it normal for hotels to charge motorcycle garage parking in France? My only experience was Italy and Switzerland where I've used underground hotel parking, both charging fees for cars, but they told me it's free for bikes. One tip I've worked out for packing is to have a go-bag separate containing just what I need for the hotel/ferry etc. So it's quick to take off the bike. The rest of the clothes etc stay on the bike. Hopefully the shoulder is better now (seen your recent hospital photo update) and you'll be back to 100% for next year's big rides Thx G

I feel your pain (literally !) with the frozen shoulder. I have just had an x-ray on mine to decide the next action. Maybe just a cortisone injection, or surgery if needed. My physio said it is the most miserable pain imaginable and he isn't wrong !
@TheMissendenFlyerАй бұрын
According to my surgeon cortisone injection won't help a frozen shoulder (I must have had 8 cortisone injections in my shoulder over the years - before it was frozen). Also a frozen shoulder is as a result of the capsule hardening, not sure how an X-Ray would see that! Maybe you have a different issue....either way, good luck, it is miserable you're right there (had my third operation in a year on mine last Wednesday - hasn't helped at all)....
@red9zeroАй бұрын
@@TheMissendenFlyer Ugh. Doc and physio reckon it is a frozen shoulder, but who knows. The x-ray was to check for any lumps on the bone, which would need an op to remove. He did go into more detail, but after 15 mins of twisting my arm round I just wanted to get out of there ! Sorry to hear your latest op didn't help. Luckily I do have private healthcare cover I can use if I have to. They seem a bit more willing (and able) to investigate and treat things than the NHS.
@TheMissendenFlyerАй бұрын
Yes I initially had a sub-humeral decompression procedure (which removed bits of bone) - that operation is what caused my frozen shoulder. My advice is don't have any surgery on your shoulder unless absolutely necessary....

Lovely bit of footage, and yes the roads around here are well maintained and usually very nice surfaces for bikes. Am waiting to see if you ride the gorge road itself, and which side you choose, as your footage is always nice. Hope you get a clear day for it. The plane trees along so many main roads were apparently a tradition started by Napoleon because he knew his troops could march further in the shade……and I see you’ll be joining the “route Napoleon” at any moment. We ride mostly on a multi V4s on these sweeping roads, but have a 996 for the warm Sunday blast, a 701 for the tight tarmac, and an FE350 for the dirt.

And of course, time permitting, ridden a loop of the Gorge before going to Castellaine. By the way, there are no cops to concern yourself with on any of these roads. trust me.
