I've watched like half the bloody instruction vids on YT lol But none of yours until now and never heard the shoulder in front of the foot thing. Makes a lot of sense and something I'm probably doing wrong. Subbed 🙂

Separation between lower and upper body is the most misunderstood concept in the golf swing imho. Many don’t have the mobility to achieve it but more don’t even understand how to achieve it. Well done with the breakdown.

YES!!!!! PRAISE BE!!!!! For the last year (after taking 5-6 months away from the game) Ive been trying to figure out why my hands my hands aren’t ahead of impact anymore. I’ve video’d my swings from every angle and couldn’t figure it out. I was too focused on watching my lower body and hands throughout my swing that it never occurred that my lead shoulder was winning the race every time and the cause of my poor impact. After 10 swings on the range i had instant results. Thank you for this video! SUBSCRIBED AND FOLLOWED

Hi, Andy, great video. My question is this: how do you keep your head on or slightly behind the ball at impact, but with your weight on your lead foot? When I try to pose in a static impact position with my head at or behind the ball, my weight seems to be still on my trail foot. Thanks!
@andycartergolf3 жыл бұрын
This is a great way of learning to separate your upper from lower body. Pushing & rotating the hips to the left as the head/spine angle stays stationary. Major key to the impact is making sure the weight transitions to the lead foot so make this a primary focus.

It’s the piece of the puzzle that’s missing from my swing. Have worked with an instructor to make changes to path and plane, but have struggled with consistent impact and rotation. Picked up an impact bag last week. Looking for some drills use it properly and more information on the issue. Can definitely see myself getting into some of the bad positions you described. Thanks 🙏

Enjoyed the video, Andy. Shows that the wrists break after ball impact. I think many golfers try to break the wrists at ball impact but you show that is not how to do it. Thanks.
@andycartergolf4 жыл бұрын
The wrist release through impact helping with the descending blow at impact and improved strikes

Also a good way I started teaching myself is feeling impact at address and just trying in the swing to get back there.

Look at the ball position though too. Look at your students. To me it’s central of stance, yours looks further back, could be camera angle but it definitely looks that way. If I get the ball further up I tend to have to compensate with a lean also. Also dk what iron he’s using but you guys ball position definitely looks different
@andycartergolf2 жыл бұрын
Definitely central ball position buddy. Sorry if it looks further back. Maybe its just the camera angle not quite perfect
@bananaball12124 жыл бұрын
I like that thought... lead shoulder should never go past the leg. I've always liked to lunge at the ball for some reason
@andycartergolf4 жыл бұрын
Yes. The lunge forward is not good for swing path or strike
@method3414 жыл бұрын
Same here. I lunge forward with my upper body on the downswing. How do I stop this?
@dannyfree11204 жыл бұрын
Same! I think it's because I've spent years hearing about "weight shift". Screwed me for years
@method3414 жыл бұрын
@@dannyfree1120 Do you do weight shift now? I was swinging well until all these coaches started telling me to do it. Then I started chunking/topping everything....
@dannyfree11204 жыл бұрын
@@method341 exactly the same. I don't deliberately weight shift or "hip bump" anymore. I feel my weight goes to left heel as my shoulder goes back away and behind me. You need to make sure you don't sway too much in backswing though Just an FYI. I'm no coach and I play off 16, but I find this thought helps a lot.
