A shame this dude never won a major, he had the skill to do so.

Followed Monty many times here in Australia, and he was deadly straight with his driver, and i mean Hogan like. And of course, a magic short game. Deserved a couple of majors, but sadly wasn't to be.

I love his lessons, because he is more articulate than the average pro, but he is a renowned fader, and his comments here ignore a lot of players who habitually draw and hook the ball, like me.

Something I find really helpful is to use a 1-2-3-4 count for the driver. The backswing starts on the 1, the contact happens on the 4. The count for irons is 1-2-3. Chip shots are 1-2 (or "tick-tock").

Coming up through the ball and using the ground and legs now recommended. Golf instruction, even from the very best, as contradictory as ever. No diss on Monty, just the way it is.

Monty wasn’t the longest driver but he was long. He wasn’t the straightest driver but he was straight. However, when it comes to hitting long, straight drives Monty had no parallel.

Its fascinating to hear he changes clubface at address for various purposes. He even turns driver face! No pga teacher would ever tell you that, and yet here is Monty with a British open win advocating it. Perhaps it is because he is from a different era, when that was more acceptable. Bernard Langer talks about it too, in his drawing and fading video.

Which British Open did he win? There's none on his record??

I seen Monty vs Tiger at the 2005 Open at St Andrews on the Saturday and followed them round, some of the best golf Monty ever played but unfortunately he was up against a prime Tiger Woods on top form

I guess the secret is "light hands at address!!! finish the back swing hit through the ball" Good tip wonderful simple swing which has served Colin well over the years. Still playing well unlike some the other players who's sole aim is to smash the cover of the ball and then end up with back problems

Very good instruction...I have a terrible habit of rushing my swing..and yes, it goes right!...I slice like a butcher!

If I could have one swing, his would be it! Long enough to compete with deadly control! He swings very freely for a big man. Should have won a few majors. I always thought Faldo was not near the striker Monty was. Power fades are nothing but money makers! Unfortunately it is not my best strike!

Another case of a great player with great talent for the game and poetry but nothing useful to say about the golf swing nor how to teach it.
