I used to be a nutter on the golf course. I would get so upset by my shortcomings. It was not related to golf was it playa?
It's life bringing all it's drama onto the course to make us capitulate.
There are so many kinds of idiots on the golf course. The constant swing critique during a round...the amateur rules official who is just WAITING for a chance to penalize someone for something, while he breaks several rules every hole. There's a lot of negativity in golf and it seems to be a culture of golfers.
I want to break that trend and show you a way to BRING THE FUN, and KEEP BRINGING THE FUN because positivity always ALWAYS overcomes negativity. That is the theme of the Way of the Playa
Commit - positive!
Enjoy - positive
Smile - positive
Have fun - positive
Play YOUR game to your capabilities - positive
Let's leave the culture of negative behind and for all those snowflakes tirggered by your positivity and fun attitude, let them be triggered into oblivion so that they eventually turn to the Cult of Fun. the Way of the Playa!!

Wise words, Matt. I suspect that some people equate having fun and enjoying ourselves on the golf course with not caring how we play. Not so. Without exception, every time I stand on that first tee I want to have the best round I can, but just as important, perhaps even more so, is having a chat and laugh with my mates for a few hours. Don't get me wrong, when I've hit a particularly bad shot I'll have a couple of seconds of swearingly ranting to myself, but then I'm back to laughing about it. What's probably the hardest for my mates to swallow is the odd time I'll hit a perfect shot, then I'll go into full-on over the top big-headed celebratory mode, "Did you see that? I'm fucking brilliant, me! Anyone want any coaching advice? Lads! Lads! Come back!".

Matty Boom Boom - I've been watching your videos for the year or so... There is SO MUCH wisdom in them. I decided to start taking the game a bit more serious over the last couple years and I've learned the biggest piece that was missing wasn't my shoulder angle or my wrist position or any of the other BS you hear/see on-line... It was the mental game and the approach to playing. I have learned more from your videos in the last year than I have from everywhere else in the last 40 years of playing the game. From being a BAUS, to "Putting out of my Mind," to the Way of the Playa - it has made an incredible impact on my game and the amount of fun I'm having while playing. THANK YOU!!!!

Love the positive vibes! I shot my personal low round in 2019 (76) and I didn't even realize it until I looked at my card in the parking lot. @@GolfSidekick I've played in a few LPGA pro am events and being up close with some of the best in the game has given me a whole different perspective on how to improve my game. Frankly, it's exactly what you preach on your channel. Every single LPGA player I've played with hits a comfortable club off the tee. I played with a multiple time Solheim Cup member who hit 3W off every tee because it gets her the yardages she needs and she can hit 75%+ fairways in regulation. She's made millions of dollars in her long professional career with this mentality. With their irons they are very accurate because they practice so much but they all had the same advice when I asked - hit the shot that will reduce your risk of finding trouble the most. What separates them from amateurs is 1) wedge accuracy, 2) saving par from off the green and 3) putting. So the formula is very simple if you let it be simple. Hit fairways, take trouble out of the equation, and practice your short game and putting like a baus!

Long time golfer (30+ yrs.). I could never figure the game out, if I broke 100 I was happy. I've been watching this channel for about a year. It has totally changed my game. No longer do I need to try and "smash" the ball off the tee, it's all about playing what you have, where (not how far) you're hitting the ball AND not searching for lost balls. I'm now disappointed if I shoot over 90. Matt, THANK YOU so much. You totally transformed my game!! I enjoy just having fun...no complaints...enjoy the day!! :)

This might be a long comment, but its whatever. About 2 months ago, i pulled my clubs out after 8 years of not playing (worked graveyard shift). After 2 rounds and multiple trips to the range (just smashing), i pulled a muscle in my chest and couldnt swing my club. So, i looked on youtube to find help with my swing and I found your channel. After watching a few videos (how to break 100 series and how to chip), i started to think aboiy my mental game rather than my swing. "Play to your strengths". Today, I went out for a round, finally, and I took everything I have learned, so far, about "the way of tha playa" and applied it. What a huge difference in all aspects of my game. I had fun again, I actually shaved off 11 strokes, and hit more fairways than i did way before I stopped playing. I started with a full bag, and at the turn, I took 4 clubs out and put them in my car (less choices so i can make the right choice) and a couole of guys in my grouo asked me why i did that and I told them, "less to choose from". They shrugged it off, and whike they were blasting driver all over the place, i was putting my 3 iron right down the middle if thw fairway leaving myself nice easy 8 iron bump and runs while they had "hero shots" to make. A big huge Thanks of showing me "The Way of Tha Playa". Now just to get confident with my SW and PW

This was easily one of my favourite videos Matt. I play by myself a lot, I cherish the alone time, and like most golfers, I get inside my own head, but when I'm truly at peace, without a care about score, or anything but swinging the club, I play some of my best golf. My last round was almost BDE free, and I shot an 83. I plan to go out again tomorrow, not use the driver at all, and plan from the hole back to dictate my tee shot. Thanks for the constant reminders about WHY we play, get the right mindset, leave the ego out of it, and success will come. We'll get that round in one day, and afterwards, beers will flow. *finch hands*

If I play solo. I do 5 wood off the tee. That's the scoring ball in the fairway. Then I hit the second walk about 40 yards forward turn right chuck a ball in the rough and imagine I've just sliced my driver. 80% of the time 5 wood in fairway has a better outcome:)

You’re 100% right on saying “you might be playing the wrong tees” I’ve been trying to get people to move up a tee for years. There are too many egos in golf though. I play golf to have fun and hitting 4 irons or hybrids into par fours isn’t fun, but moving up to the correct tee and hitting 8 into the green is. 👍🏻

I like your optimism and I have to admit that I sometimes take golf too seriously. However, you have to see it a little more differentiated. On days when I play golf well, I'm usually in a good mood and enjoy my game. On other days of miss hits, I don't enjoy the game so much. But basically you're right. In situations where things are not going well, I try to cheer myself up by saying that we are fortunate to play golf. Unlike those who cannot, for health or financial reason.

On days I hit the ball like shit, I focus on something I can do...like chip or putt or make jokes or drink beer or sit in the clubhouse with an Irish coffee after 9 holes thankful that I packed it in. That is stress-free

Hey Matt, I am 24 handicap and I used your method for breaking 90. I had lots fun. Didn't get there but was mostly in the fairway teeing off with my 4 hybrid. As usual lost strokes with my short game. Need to practice. Love the golf course management.

Always nice to NOT lose balls and be in the fairway. The short game is where everyone can slash strokes quick sticks. Keep going and that sub90 will come

LOL that's a good point. I just don't like the personal attacks on Teaski, Brian, Didi, JMac. The internet certainly allows the bitter twats an outlet though. Poor dears, no one else will listen to them

Picking the right tees is a great suggestion. (The USGA/R&A actually have guidelines for this.) Now that I'm in my seventies, I've moved up a couple of tee boxes and playing real golf again. I get some flak from my playing partners sometimes, but I couldn't care less what they think.
