My wife and I started with a tent then we bought a truck camper that had a porta potty in a closet and a small propane heater, (boy we had it made) we finally upgraded to a used 30 foot fifth wheel, central heat, 100 gallons of fresh water, a bathtub/shower, Queen size bed, closets and drawers wow! We purchased a brand new 30 footer with a slide out that we used and enjoyed for 10 years. Then we both got old! The fifth wheel took a lot of work to set up and pull. We purchased a small couple’s trailer, sometimes it seems small but so much easier to haul and set up. I truly admire your setup and how much you enjoy yourselves! Your staying in our home state, we love this place very much! If you are looking for a truly amazing place to visit check out Rucker Canyon and Camp Rucker (its an old Calvary fort that was turned into a cattle ranch and then donated to the Forest Service, its in the south eastern part of Arizona. God bless you both, may the Good Lord bless and keep you and make His face to shine on you!

@baconwhiskey821 this is important to me! I plan on pulling something about this size behind my car and I'm going to be pushing my upper tow capacity with it having so much air drag sticking up above me

@@NoZenith From the videos I've seen, having a v-nose vs a flat-nose makes a big difference in towing effort. Have you considered an A-frame camper? Hard-sided, pretty easy to set up, but is low-profile like a pop-up camper while towing.
@NoZenith
@NoZenith 4 ай бұрын
@tc2882 Yes, actually! I followed a whole bunch of slim potato heads videos from a few years ago While he was traveling around in inclement weather in an A-frame. I have considered it. But I think I would be happier in a little box. i'd also have one trailer for everything. I bought an old tri-plex I'm fixing up to offset living expenses... It could be my utility trailer and then my camper. Also a bit more stealthy to just pull into a parking lot and take a nap 😆

That's the beauty of customizing our own rig. Mine is a Lance camper with a dry bath. I sacrificed a centrally located large closet to have a custom-built woodstove installed. Got rid of the microwave (never used) and got rid of the generator (didn'tlike the noise). I don't use the shower, so the cat litter box resides there. Also removed the ladder to the roof because one night three guys were climbing up it. I can access the roof from the escape hatch inside. I also made sure I could climb through the glass sliders to get inside my truck to drive away without having to exit the camper. Being a solo senior woman, safety options are important. Saving up for solar. This rig is larger than I really need. Originally, it was for my late husband and I to travel in. However, it's paid for and the extra room is nice when one travels with a dog and two cats. Love the changes you and Linda have done. Living in a rig is the best way to decide how to customize. Your rig is so cute and comfy. ❤😊

I seriously considered a cargo trailer, even designed it the way I wanted it. In the end, since I travel alone for the most part (a rare guest) I decided on a cargo van. I'm happy so far that is the way I went. As soon as the solar is on, I'l be doing more boondocking like you do. I need electricity for medical reasons. That is the only reason I've not done boondocking since I got the van. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for making them and sharing.

I (Rick), would also like to add that you two are really a role model for us as a couple. We are probably ten years younger but we really admire your obvious love and respect for each other by your interactions and your temperament as far as meeting or listening to other people and kidding around. We kid around with each other like you two do and sometimes we think about ten years from now how we hope we can enjoy getting out together and enjoy the simple camping adventures. When we go places sometimes we see a sign that says "homemade pies" and we look at each other and say,,Linda and Rick would love this! Thank you for taking your time to put these out.

Howdy there Rick & Linda. Such the Nice Relaxing show n tell, and boy do you have it Right, Simple & Easy. Nice. You've said before several times Rick, that the 'conversion' is Never Done and Thanks to that, we are not stuck with Anything. I as well, keep everything as simple and sparce and am much happier for that. Having watched almost every YT Vid on van & cargo-rig builds, I feel we beat them all by Keeping it down to the minimum. The excess weight alone of a fancy set-up is enough to make gas consumption double, let alone decrease the amount of places one can find in the Bush. I hardly ever show the inside of my rig, as privacy is something special, but I will show Y'all for sure. Yes, I'm doing a Re-Model too, and you are so correct when saying that our Nomad Rigs are Never Finished.-‐--btw, I changed cell co. to an Unlimited Plan that was a Flat Out Lie. Left me dead in the water again, I couldn't even respond to your last vid. But I did get one if those Scammers asking me to 'Telegram' them for a free gift, All with your name & logo. Gees, they never let up. Looking forward to the Re-Model, may every Change be a Good One.👍The girls say Hello. 👊 God Bless.

Rick and Linda, I have enjoyed your channel ever since I come across it. To each his own or whatever floats your boat. I am 80 + years of age but I took a different mode of RV travel. I am currently working to convert a 36 foot flat nose rear engine powered bus, a 2002 International. I use to drive a 18 wheeler so driving a big vehicle was not a problem. But, what I like about this vehicle is it will be self contained even will have a regular size washer and dryer. Of course the latter can only be used in a park. You were mentioning a lot of wind out in the desert. That will be a useful source for me to drive a DIY wind turbine which will be mounted on the rear end of the bus. It will be removable when traveling. I don't want solar so I will be using a propane generator mounted on the front of the vehicle. I love the desert too! The bus engine is a 7.3 L T444E Power Stroke which is a top rated engine. Maybe we will cross roads one day in the future. I live in Florida so I have a lot of road to cover before entering the beautiful wild West.

I wouldn't put the stove up higher if you can avoid it... I did something similar to a fireplace and had permanently cold feet and a sweaty head... when it got cold, it didn't even circulate, the heat was just being sucked out the corners of the room. Just thought I'd say!

@@gonagain Yes I saw, that's a pretty cool gadget.. seen it around, must get one too! However.. I still think your main sources of heat should always be low if possible.. I had the unfortunate experience of -25c (-13f) for the first time in my life in europe here the winter before last in an unprepared poorly insulated 100yr old cottage. I had a roaring fireplace going, and a blow heater to the side of it which I used for some circulation, but the heat was just being sucked out on all sides before it touched anywhere further than about 30cm... With the changing climates.. best to set up just in case.. but, that's just my humble opinion of course. I'm sure you guys will cope with any eventuality 10 times better than I'm doing right now anyway. :D

There's a few things I couldn't live without in my Ram Promaster: MaxAir Deluxe, Dometic Duel refrigerator and my Wave Propane Heater. The Dometic has been flawless, it sips my battery and its whisper quiet. Although I'm a solo traveler I have my very big Tomcat Toby. He never warns me before he steps into his box to do his thing. And that is almost unbearable for a minute but the fan makes super quick work of that as well as cooking odors. It's really a must have I say. And finally my portable propane heater has never failed me. It has been incredibly efficient; I would say also it sips propane. I really enjoyed this video. I'm looking at how to rearrange also. And you both deserve to be as comfortable as you wish. Can't wait to see your redesign🤙

We saw a cargo trailer conversion while in Quartzsite that had solar mounted on one side, the owner said that with the low winter sun the worked very well. You could also build them to hinge upward for max summer output. Don't know if this would work for you, but might be worth considering.

I don't have a trailer or camper of any sort, but my brother let me stay in his little camp trailer and it was perfect for me! I admire the two of you going this journey together! Explaining why you need certain things, in the trailer to keep it more livable is useful for people like me that have very little experience. My brother did teach me how to switch out the propane tanks and monitor the water and so forth... so yeah I think it's very cool to see how you are doing your vacation time there.

REMODEL: Hey Rick & Linda, just a couple of suggestions. 1. Solar- Itehil now makes a 400w folding portable panel. You know they are “as advertised or better.” 2. Before you Mount a tank outside and under where it can get punctured or freeze, think about black polypropylene pipe on top of the trailer under the solar panels. It would benefit from the warmth of the sun in the day and the heat from the ceiling of the trailer at night. Then you could plumb a spigot through the side of the trailer by the top. Just my .02 cents worth.

Correction, they DO NOT make a 400w panel. I ordered one and they sent 4 - 100w panels. I called and they said sorry for the confusion. All powers does and Bluetti, and Ecoflo.

Form follows function. Who'da thunk? I appreciate your experiences. Especially on heating and power. Since I copied your pipe berth idea, the bunks-to-sofa conversion was a Doh!-ment. My wife and I discussed seating a day ago. Once again, Rick to the Rescue. I may mount a water tank beneath my trailer, too; using plastic pipe. A 6" x 72" pipe holds ~9 gallons. Mounted athwartship doesn't take much space. I'm still pondering the effects of slosh though. I may do a trial run with two half-filled pipes laying on the floor between the wheels to see if the trailer wiggles like a loaded diaper. For now, I use two 5-gallon jerry cans beneath the sink.

We're looking into that Nuway heater, we're finding the Mr Buddy heater isn't working out for us. Hubby is looking to change our floor plan inside too. A more dedicated bathroom area and moving our sleeping area to the back instead of on the sides like you have. Can't wait to get started.🤗

I’d really be interested with helping your solar system, for me it’s the panel to battery ratio. Oh, and the sun shades I’ve added, life changing to have 3 sided cover! I park the Cayenne under the driver side and the I have the passenger side and the back of the hauler to relax under and keep the weather away!

50 years ago my parents bought an old pop up camper. It came with beds that flipped out on the ends, thin plastic covered foam mattresses and had zippered screen windows. There was no kitchen, toilet, storage or other comforts. My mom built a kitchen cabinet from cardboard. It had cardboard doors and the shelves were even cardboard. The wood pieces reinforced corners and held up cardboard shelves and drawers. The cardboard was doubled and glued. Mom coated the cardboard with a clear finish. It was fairly lightweight and remarkably, the cook cabinet held up for years and years. Cost? Free.

I’ve seen some cabinets and other furniture made of barn insulation foam. Sturdy, lightweight and fairly inexpensive. Recently I’ve been experimenting with furnishing my Ford Transit Connect. Space is limited and so is weight. I bought some 18x12 milk crates and was trying to decide what size plywood to put on top for my bed. I had to buy a water heater for my sticks and bricks. The WH came in a big cardboard box. I folded the cardboard into long crate width pieces and put it on top of the crates. My air mattress goes on top. It has held me up for a few months now. I’m impressed with how well it has held up, price was right and it is light weight. It is reasonably comfortable. I hope the water heater holds up as well. Travel doesn’t have to cost a fortune. I got a free medical cooler from a pharmacy - it fits a crate just fine and needs very little ice. My kitchen is back packer style - home made and thrifted. My toilet is diverted - keeps smell down. It’s small I figured out how to catch poop in a bag and seal it off out of the way. My system is small but workable for travel. For a couple weeks run I would need to change the system.

the expenses on decompost toilet is a cost?, , its called a 5 gal. bucket , 13 gal plastic bag and 1 dryer sheet in the bag, adding a litle sawdust in the bottom of the plastic bag , composts the waste and killing the smell as well.
