Lecrae put his story in the public spotlight voluntarily, and in a big way, in the track “Good, Bad, Ugly” from Anomaly (2014), an album which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The first verse recounts the true story of his sinful relationship with a past girlfriend:
I remember back in ’02
I was in school and actin’ a fool
My soul got saved, my debt had been paid
But still I kept running off with my crew
Sex on my brain, and death in my veins
I had a main thing, we stayed up ‘til 2 (Smokin!)
Waking and baking we naked, my body was loving it
Soul was hating it,
And time and time after time, our bodies were close
The girl was so fine
We heard a heart beat that wasn’t hers or mine
The miracle of life had started inside
Ignored the warning signs
Suppressed that truth I felt inside
I was just having fun with this, I’m too young for this
I’m thinking me, myself, and I
Should I sacrifice this life to keep my vanity and live nice?
And she loves and trusts me so much that whatever I say, she’d probably oblige
But I was too selfish with my time
Scared my dreams were not gonna survive
So I dropped her off at that clinic
That day a part of us died
The arc of the story lands hard on the last line: “a part of us died.” Lecrae openly takes public responsibility for his sin, and he recently took time in Atlanta to share his story with John Piper and John Ensor.

I'm ashamed that so many people got the impression that Lecrae is a "heretic" or an "anti Christian" because of his past. The entire meaning of being a Christian is the fact that you TURNED from your sin and realize how truly and deeply you need a savior. If you are under the impression that you are sinless or that you are more deserving of Gods love because your past is cleaner, then I deeply fear you have misunderstood what it means to be a Christian, and your eyes need to be opened to the sin in your life in order to understand how greatly ALL of us NEED a savior.

So many christians sin while judging others. Thats the problem with religion and why jesus was against it. This is why i believe in Jesus but i refuse to go to church or call myself a Christian.

💯. "And this is not a sprint, it's a marathon." - MTM Isaiah. Instead of just hating on the guy, why don't you go repent for hating someone (Matthew 5:21-26) and pray for the man, instead of worrying. "Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6-7. I shouldn't hate you either, I forgive you for hating lecrae. Just keep seeking Jesus, don't hate anybody, instead pray for them

This makes me love and respect Lecrae even more. Haven't always been a fan. It actually took me a while to warm up to his music. But over the years I have seen real growth and maturity in him. Jesus Christ is definitely evident in his life. Thank you for sharing this.

To all of you that don't trust Lecrae. He is phenomenally talented. He could have been a Neyo, Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar, etc...could have gotten tons more money. But he chose to glorify God through his music. He is the most real person out there. Listen to Anomaly, that album is about his life. Very truthful.

Omg First time hearing this about Lecrae. I've been confronted, one particular that Lecrae shares. Everything he shares in this clip is crazy how much similar I can relate. A week ago I was in a battle within myself. I know the Lord was making a move in me just did not comprehend it at first. I confided in my fiance just been recently engaged, what I couldn't bear to buddle in anymore. It was hard and it hurt all over.. We held in each other's arms asking for forgiveness for what we did to one another. Admitting is the hardest part but its so rewarding. Our love is stronger we both feel it. We have gain the respect towards each other and I know that's the Lord revealing it. The Lord is showing his mercy on us during these tough times. So thankful to Him. Also, thanks Lecrae for moments like this because you've shown me opening up on tough subjects that maybe, my chapter's can help someone too!🌻

I can only imagine how it must be to carry something like that on you after it happens. I would like to say that if I had got a girl pregnant in my youth, I would've told her to keep it. But abortion is so final. It's almost like committing suicide. Just like Lecrae said: a part of them died. Deep stuff.

We had an abortion when I was 16 he was 15. It ruined my life by making it so I can never have kids. All I knew was it was a girl I named her adrianna... we got back together but found out he had a baby from a previous relationship. Knowing this it shattered me. Destroyed me. It completely changed me.

Hmm, and did lecrae ask this girl for forgiveness? His sin was not only against God but against the baby and his momma. He talks about his healing. This still sounds like me, myself, and I. I had an abortion too. I understand that I was worshiping myself when I chose to kill my baby. I’ve heard him talk about this abortion more recently with a lot of justification for it. He also is defending others that have abortions, saying that you don’t know their circumstance. Maybe it was tough like his, and they didn’t feel their were other options. This doesn’t sound like true repentance.

To those discussing rap lyrics: Snoop Dog's rap, "Smoke Weed Every Day," uses the word "the" 20 times, the word "in" 10 times, the word "this" 6 times, etc. Would it be fair to conclude, therefore, that if one uses words like "the," "in," and "this," in their writing, they are coming too close to using the same words as worldly, sinful rap artists, and they should avoid using those words at all cost? That would be an absurd conclusion to come to. What, then, is the limiting principle? If it's inherently wrong to use a rhythm or rhyme scheme similar to what a rap artist might use, even if one doesn't use profanity, why wouldn't it also be sinful to use the same words that x-rated rap artists use in any context? If the objection is that something is "too similar" to x-rated rap, well, common article adjectives and prepositions are used in sinful worldly stuff too.

The video is, he is not. Lecrae was a featured performer at a December 2020 event in Atlanta called "Get Out the Early Vote Rally & Concert," which was hosted by Democrats Warnock and Jon Ossoff before Georgia's runoff elections. While there, the artist stressed the importance of one’s freedom to vote. We all should vote yes, however he was endorsing two very pro choice Democrats www.ontheissues.org/Social/Jon_Ossoff_Abortion.htm I’m sorry you CANT read the same Bible I do, follow the same Christ and the be okay with Abortion. There is no defense. Look up Rev. Raphael Warnock and you will see is stance, as a “Pastor” even!!! So maybe the video is him talking about Jesus, that’s great, I’d like to see him actually FOLLOW Jesus as demonstrated by his actions.
