To clean the hog pit area and remove 100% of the smell you need to spray the entire area down with sodium hypochlorite 14-15% (mix it 50/50 with water and add a squirt of dish soap - use a backpack sprayer to apply). It will kill all the bacteria - you can powerwash 45 mins after you spray the area down (it needs to be left on the surface you are cleaning for a minimum 45-60 mins to work - but you must keep the area damp/lightly misted - if it dries then the sodium hypochlorite effectiveness greatly diminishes, but if you keep it slightly damp is best. It's best to do late in the evening after direct sun has gone or on a rainy/cloudy day. Before you spray the sodium hypochlorite - first spray the entire area you intend to clean down with water to prep it to help the solution penetrate the surface and any organic material.

Shapeshifter your statement is inaccurate and false. The only way to create chlorine gas is if the Hypochlorite is exposed to Acid - only if this happens will chlorine gas then be released. Without adding Acid to the Hypochlorite it is not possible to create chlorine gas.

We got rid of mold and stink by using products that a flood/fire restoration company instructed us on. This is what l would do. Back pack sprayer with chlorine mix, spray on concrete walls and floor and brush with stiff bristle floor broom. (Of course wear a respirator, we didn’t snd could smell chlorine for a week) Pressure wash again. Then let dry, few days to a week depending on humidity. Then get a paint sprayer and spray with Zinser BIN 123 or equivalent. It’s a liquid vapour barrier that locks in smell and mold etc. Used commonly on flood and fire restorations and even in homes where people smoked and can’t get smell out. Once dry, spray with a white kitchen and bath paint that has a mold and mildewcide in it. Can get cheap because most kitchen and bath paint has it. Will work awesome! Enjoy

Cant see that well but I think what you see on the concrete is loosely called Efflorescence. It forms on the interior faces of foundation walls, or on concrete slabs. Before using the power washer with the 0° tip spray on a good coat of concrete cleaner. Power wash with oscillating 0° tip. Then use epoxy paint. Depending on the type of epoxy you buy you may have to use a etching coat or a primer. Be careful if you cover any horizontal surfaces you should use the non-skid additive for your product. That suff gets as slick as snot on an onion! Anyway, have a good one. The opening Morning with the classes on is an instant classic. ***AWW FUDGE! I stopped at 6:30 to answer your question. Ok forget the paint. Use a good cleaner then seal the concrete with a good quality concrete sealer.

Acid wash the concrete. Use a solution of muriatic acid. It will kill of the bacteria, molds and smell. It's inexpensive thing to do; mix one part muriatic acid to 10 parts water. Brush or spray the acid solution on the concrete, wait eight to 10 minutes, then neutralize the acid by spraying the surface with a mixture of one cup of ammonia in one gallon of water. When it's all dry, you can repaint it with Kilz.

Kilz brand of sealer primer. in insurance home restoration we get fire remodels and that smell is the worst..you will never get used to the smell of a house fire. after demoing out all the burnt material..we sprayed Kilz on everything, everywhere. Kilz is a sealer primer and is a great layer of protection before final paint. you can find at any Lowes or Home depot and is best applicated with a paint sprayer right from the 5 gallon bucket.

For the smell. Zylene based exterior concrete stain, they sell it at Lowes. I used it to seal in cat pee in a building, works really well, and it's not $100/gallon. Treat with hydrogen peroxide first, then acid etch. It's my shop floor and it's better than any epoxy coat I ever encountered.

Pressure wash it again then spray on a muriatic acid or hydrochloric acid solution. It will etch the surface so paint will stick and should help get rid of the smell. Kilz would be the paint to seal it but it's expensive. I suspect the smell might permeate into a latex paint so an oil or epoxy based paint might be better.

Instead of sabotaging his own economy, my father would just make sure i had rolling up that hose on my list of things to do. Before i could do anything "fun". Learned fast it was just better to clean up after yourself while you are there, then having to go back and do it. Had to do it either way. Then again, i did not really respond to "threats" that much. Remember him taking the TV i had on my room after i had done something i shouldnt have (cannot remember what) The next day when he got home, i had "taken" his TV in the living room. And hid it in the woods.. I spent like 3 hours dragging that huge block of glass. 32 inch TV, those old big CRT ones. Yea it got lively at home that evening. We both ended up with our TVs back tho :P

They make a paint called Kilz and it covers up odors and hides discolored stans. Walmart and any big box stores cards it. Home Depo and Lowes also. Good luck guys.

Mower Jeff, We had a sign in our farrowing barn office that said manure is a lot like money, its no good unless your spread it around. 1 day Gramma was complaining about the smell, because we had a huge pile of manure outside the farrowing barn, that we hadn't hauled away yet, and I won't use the choice words that Grampa said about her complaining, but he said she use to tell people when they would come to visit and say, wow that stinks, and Gramma would say, it smells like money to me, and now all she does is bitch about the smell, lol.

With the manure soaking into the concrete for all of those years you are more than likely not going to get much to stick to it. No matter what paint you use it has to be on a clean surface. sandblasting might be the only way to really clean it so that paint will stick.

If you wipe recoiling hoses with a rag soaked with Armour All, they recoil with less friction and it helps to protect the hose. It also helps to repel dirt from collecting on the hose.

you can tape some Febreze spray cans where they spray without you holding them and throw them in the pit once you get the door in. don't know if it will work just an idea

Bring in a hot pressure that can inject detergent washer first. Then something like sodium hydroxide flake, wet it down, scrub with a brush, rinse and dry. Others have suggested Sodium hypochlorite, which will also work, but it's more expensive. Caution, wear the Yellow Tyvek and a respirator with ventilation. We used sodium hydroxide to clean the floor around the service lifts to completely remove grease and oil for old concrete. Once dry, Kilz or Zinzer primer with a bonding agent. As for an epoxy floor paint, unless it fully cures before the building gets placed into service is easily scratched.
