First time I actually have not come to 'dread' an exercise routine. I can execute these without feeling like a plank (although I am one, have been since puberty), the duration is perfect, and the instructions and pacing are simply ACE. Can't recommend highly enough. Rachel is a gem, and her strength and elegance inspire me every day.

Hallo Rachel my husband and I are both in our sixties, I've done pilates before but stopped during lockdown . He and I started with your videos for seniors, have loved doing them, and are so enjoying the standing pilates. Would it be possible to have more senior mat videos? Or isn't it necessary to do the mat....we aren't sure which are suitable and he is very stiff and needs to become more flexible. I've been forced to do physical therapy my entire life (I was born with mild Cerebral Palsy), and this is the first time in 32 years that exercise is not painful torture, I actually enjoyed it, and I can actually see it having a positive impact. Since the pandemic, I have not been able to stay at my gym. It's been a few weeks that I have been doing your Pilates work out. Hi Rachel, Totally love your videos. Been working with beginner exercises and I honestly feel very good after doing them. For me, what makes your videos stand out from the hundreds of others on KZbin is the calm and easy way in which you explain the movements and the breathing patterns that go with them. Simply fabulous! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and skills. I would really love to attend one of your sessions when I visit London! Could I make a request? My physiotherapist has advised that I build shoulder strength to avoid my frequent shoulder and neck pain. Could you please post a video on pilates exercises for it? Also, the other day I was doing the workout you explained in your video "10 minute Pilates to build strength". At the end of it, however, my wrists were hurting very bad. Are there any stretches/exercises I could do to avoid/minimise the pain? Thanks!

Hello there Cho, Thank you very much for your message. Great to hear you are enjoying the videos and my teaching. You'd be very welcome to join class in London when you visit! Thanks for your request - a video with Pilates exercises to build shoulder strength- leave it with me and I'll put something together and film it in the next few weeks. In the meantime, have you seen my Video Tutorial 'How to do a Press Up For beginners'? This will be helpful for you as it explains a modification that will help you build strength in your arms and shoulders without doing a full press up. Also, do check out my Madeira workout called '10 Minute Full Body Pilates for Toned, sculpted body. It's very much focused on upper body work so a good one for you to try. With regard to your wrist pain, this is quite common and is usually simply because the wrists are not used to the weight bearing, if this happens in class I suggest to a client to either rest for a moment and come back to it, or if they are able to, to go down onto their elbows. It's a case of building your strength slowly and it may be that right now it's a little too much for your wrists. My suggestion is keep trying but when you feel the discomfort, transfer the weight down onto your elbows if you can or rest, do another video and come back to it. As with all exercise, it takes time to build strength. Good luck and I'll start working on ideas for a Shoulder strength and neck release video. Best wishes, Rachel

@@TheGirlWithThePilatesMat Thanks so much Rachel. I'm eagerly awaiting the shoulder strength video! I did try the exercises in your video 'How to do a Press Up For beginners'. Initial 2-3 reps were great. I did a total of maybe 6-8 reps and all was fine.. until my shoulder started hurting the next day. I guess I either need to do only 2-3 at a time and simultaneously focus on more basic shoulder strengthening exercises. A quick question - how many reps in a session is recommended to see some results on the arms? Also, how frequently should they be done? I haven't yet tried the exercises in '10 Minute Full Body Pilates for Toned, sculpted body' video. I'm looking forward to do them this week. Will also try out the elbow technique to take the weight off the wrists. Maybe doing a few reps on elbow and wrists each would help to ensure that I don't miss out on the exercise! Thanks again! @@choh6876 Hello Cho, it sounds like you might have just overdone it a little with the press ups. They are a very strong exercise and if you're shoulders are not used to weight-bearing they can really feel it if you do too much too soon. So your idea is perfect, just build up slowly. I always say a few well executed repetitions is much more beneficial that lots with an incorrect technique as it's important to work the muscles in the right way and avoid overworking or straining the joints. So you have exactly the right idea, just do 2 or 3 and keep doing that until it starts to feel easier then add another and so on. For seeing results in the arms, you want to be doing the exercises 3 -4 times a week- consistency is the key to seeing results.Mixing it up with some on the elbows and some on the wrists will also help build your core strength and shoulder stability.
