Always love seeing your video's Sam. So many amazing ideas have seen the light of day through you. I loved the flower gardens hanging above the streets in Spain wasn't it? I'm doing my bit to try to help the planet by encouraging green burials (I work as a Death Doula), and campaign against embalming. Most people don't even realise you do not have to be embalmed. We are seeing so many more people going back to the land in Ireland, seeing this and all the amazing things happening around the world give me hope, so my humble thanks for that. Now we just need a million more Sams in the world 😂❤. I'm going to see if i can get one of the large hair salon chains here to get involved in the hair campaign!!

I don't like Peta or it's misinformation and lies, but I am absolutely excited to hear the news that fashion made from animals has stopped. I hope they don't replace these materials with plastic, as in vegan leather and such. There are better more reusable sources like mushroom leather and clothing made from plant materials.

There's some really exciting alternative materials coming out that don't have any plastic, (I agree the goal is not 'vegan leather' that uses plastic - I spoke to someone recently about it so HOPEFULLY I'll have some a scoop on something soon!

Love you Sam. Just have one question, do we know if the synthetic materials used in fashion are more or less damaging than natural leathers, furs or feathers overall?? I suppose one would have to weigh up the micro fibres and polysythetic flecks against the natural materials. I imagine wool and cottons are the best overall?? Many thanks....xxx

Not to be a downer, but the ban on animal furs in fashion will only increase production of faux fur, which is made with petroleum and is very energy-intense to create. Unless they intended to ban all fur-like materials, but I doubt it...

I am from Ontario and as someone who hunts and deeply cares about the environment I'm not really sure why hunting gets such a bad wrap. I can't really comment on how BC does it because I don't know, but here in Ontario all the fee's you pay toward hunting pay for conservation efforts. The province does a pretty good job maintaining the population of the various game animals too. My motivation for becoming a hunter was my love of the environment. I wanted to get my meat in a more sustainable way, and part of the experience of hunting is being outdoors and immersing yourself in nature. On a similar note, why is banning animal products from fashion shows also such a good thing? Animal products themselves are sustainable no? A good pair of leather shoes can last a lot long than some cheap sneakers that have to be replaced ever couple years, and when they finally wear out, are they not biodegradable? I get that a lot of mass industrial farming is done unstainable and is cruel to the animals, so I feel like targeting how farming is done could be a lot more effect then just removing animal products from clothing. I fear all the animal product materials will just be replace d by plastic based and it will be worse. I've seen a lot of regenerative farming channels pop up and start to grow, which is one a lot more environmentally friendly in addition to providing the animals with a fulling life. Love your channel its so nice to be able to see some good news for the environment in the sea of negativity. Keep up the great work!
@itsSamBentley10 ай бұрын
Thanks for contributing your perspective Liam and it’s great to see such a strong connection to nature in your approach. From what I understand in this instance, trophy hunting in regions like BC's Great Bear Rainforest often targets keystone species. These are animals crucial to the ecological balance, like grizzly bears, wolves, and cougars. Unlike sustenance hunting, where the goal is to harvest food, trophy hunting focuses on these specific animals for sport or trophies, like in the case with Cecil The Lion, which can disrupt the delicate balance of the ecosystem. (I'm sure you know this but just pointing this out for anyone reading who may not know the difference) In regards to whether trophy hunting is beneficial for the environment (Putting the ethical question of it aside), I haven't seen a consensus where it says that it is. I checked out a study done by Benjamin Ghasemi called 'Trophy hunting and conservation: Do the major ethical theories converge in opposition to trophy hunting?'. The study suggests that trophy hunting may do more harm than good. It hints that the negative sides, like ethical issues, harm to wildlife, and unfair distribution of money, outweigh the potential benefits for conservation and local people. As it's practiced now, trophy hunting doesn't seem to fairly share profits, protect animals, or earn the public's trust, all of which are crucial for it to be considered good for the environment. So, the study leans towards the idea that trophy hunting, as it stands, isn't right from an ethical standpoint and creates big hurdles for proper wildlife management and conservation efforts. In the instance in B.C, I guess we can see if the Raincoast Conservation Foundation can maintain the levels of income needed to look after the Park with ecotourism as opposed to trophy hunting, and hopefully there'll be some data to dig into to see if wildlife has improved!

Brilliant. So much good news to celebrate in January. Hopefully they will find a better use of wind power rather than erecting the huge turbines which destroy the bird population and are not biodegradable. The world needs more positivity and this channel provides it.
@itsSamBentley11 ай бұрын
Thank you I'll keep it coming! Whilst we need to continue to make wind turbines as efficient as possible, they actually do significantly less damage to bird populations than fossil fuels, and even things like windows and cats which kill way more birds than turbines. Several studies suggest birds have the ability to detect wind turbines in time and change their flight path early enough to avoid them, and with more investment and technology, placing turbines so they don't interfere with migration routes can help massively too. You're right about the need to increase the efficiency of the components they're made from, and in 2022 GE actually created their first prototype of a recyclable wind turbine blade, so change is coming on that side too!
