@@Ficon looked not like a lack of speed but more like a want not to crash. He had to back down multiple times as the guy in the lime green car moved to block (a tactic that works until the other driver doesn't back off, kind of douchy for an exhibition race with these classics)

The most impressive aspect of this for me is Damon's speed while treating the car and engine quite gently. He gave other cars room, used remarkably smooth brake and steering inputs, changed gear slowly (not banging them in) and stayed well below the rev limit. He also used higher gears than he might have otherwise done, all giving the car a bit of sympathy. Going that fast while caring for the car like that shows skill, experience and a well-controlled ego.

Agreed, truly amazing. To completely understand where 99.9% is and then drive at 95%. Racing in F1 and Moto GP keeps getting faster and more boring. At least Moto 3 is still exciting. 10% slower and 90% more entertaining.

@@TaikaJamppa Well, the engine survived. The footage I have seen showed that the wrong downshift sent him into the gravel trap. He then hooked it back to 1st and tried to move out but the car is beached... In short, the engine didn't break, he retired because the car got stuck in the gravel trap.

Not exactly. That's Stirling Moss in the car he should've driven in 1962 (if not for his massive crash at Goodwood in a Lotus). He, along with the second driver Tony Dron, actually qualified higher than Damon Hill in Nick Mason's GTO.

Well, Damon isn't the quickest driver in the grid. He's certainly going slower in the race than Derek Bell, John Surtees, Phil Hill, Jochen Neerpasch, and Jochen Mass who is absolutely flying in a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray!

Also present in this particular race is Phil Hill with his son Derek driving a Daytona Cobra, Jochen Neerpasch is also driving another Cobra (he had a very adventurous stint). Also, Jochen Mass is on fire, he passed car after car to lead the race in a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray!

I have driven this circuit and it is damn narrow, especially when you're driving this sort of machinery. I wonder what the excess is on his insurance policy? Really takes me back this. I did a track day some years ago and Dave Brodie was on track with his full-on BTCC Cosworth, which was epic.

Now that was a proper tt Sunday race. Since the end of the 2010s the level of cars in that race just plummeted. I guess even goodwood cannot win over speculation

Yeah. The last time a 250 GTO raced at the Revival's RAC TT is in 2017, when Andy Newall and Frank Stippler were very quick, but sadly, Newall crashed the GTO in practice. The last Revival in which a 250 GTO raced is in 2019, when one won the Kinrara Trophy... The 330 LMB which was always a quick regular at the RAC TT is also gone... Still, at this year's Revival, a _250 LM_ will be racing at the TT...

@@jcgabriel1569 it is not just about the gto. A lot of nice originals cars are gone compared to my first visit in 2010. It is turning into a cobra race as all the other vintage racing events.

@@TheBlackD Well, apparently, the Cobras were now at a bit of a disadvantage. The Graham Hill Trophy last Member's Meeting saw that the Cobras slowed down a bit. One of the drivers, Sam Hancock, replied to a comment explaining that FIA put out new regulations that made the Cobras use a softer anti-roll bar and reduced packing.

@@TheBlackD And not just at the TT. I am disappointed that there weren't any Alfa Romeo P3s present at the Goodwood Trophy for a few years now. Last time there was any competitive driver in a P3 is at 2018 with Christian Glasel driving his car. Last time there was any P3 in the race is at 2019, only one example driven rather slowly by Charles Nearburg.

The Cobra is the same one to the ft of the GTO on the grid, which stalled at the start. It is an ex-Roy Salvadori Cobra, driven by its owner Grahame Bryant, who would later hand it over to Sir Jack Brabham. Sadly, Brabham won't have a go at it, really. A rear wheel came off as he left the pits after their driver change... Damon Hill shared the GTO with Nick Mason, the owner of the car. Damon would end up at the gravel trap at Lavant corner after he downshifted from 4th to 1st by accident. I think, the pale green GTO did finish, that was driven first by Stirling Moss, and he later handed it over to Tony Dron.
