My problem is that knowing that there is a charger does not mean that it is available or working. Most charging networks do let you know if the charger is busy in their app, but most (aside from Tesla) do not show if the charger is not functional. I have also been ICE'd recently, which is really annoying, and have gone to stations where the cars are fully charged but taking the space.

Point one is the biggest issue with google maps (on phones). It should be possible for the car to pass on some of that data to android auto (with update both sides) to have realtime info in the map on charge state, burn rate etc so the map can make recommendations or even if google maps had the option to put in ytour car type and then imput your current chage state before you start so it could give some estimate as the map knows your speed and outside temp and can estimate your avg speed and if its cold or hot outside.

GM does not honorate their 8 years guaranty on their Spark EV (2014 to 16). They dont manufacture the battery and other parts any more. These cars have now less than 75 000 miles. Instead, they offer to buy back the car at low price. Very common and very bad policy here for a company that want to develop electric cars as their main line.

I really appreciate the effort you put into these videos. I consider you a reliable source. Also, I hope your wife is improving and will make a full recovery. Howerer, as an Australian, I feel I must point out that you are contributing to cultural erosion. You constantly refer to petrol as "gas". I understand that you have a lot of viewers from the USA and I suspect that you feel you need to speak their language so as not to lose the message in translation. I think they can probably cope with the word "petrol" and understand what you are saying. I don't think that you have to adopt US english to get your message across to that segment of your audience.

Ryan Shaw recently did a KZbin video where he took his Rivian on a road trip, using third party charging stations. His experience was not favorable, to say the least--in his words, "...nothing short of awful." It's worth a view. For those on the move, only Tesla offers a reliable charging network solution. I'd never buy another EV, other than Tesla, based on this issue alone.

Wherever possible I prefer to DC charge the Atto3 at around 40KW to minimise heating and battery wear and tear. 40KW is also about the maximum rate for electric braking. Typically this means a 25-30 minute recharge stop after 250km.

250 mile range is now the standard Charging anxiety is now the problem (can't find a charger that's fast/works/available) Even the Rivian and Lucid owners complain. Can't wait until Tesla builds out their magic dock stalls to supercharge any vehicle (exclude the Leaf)

@@sodiumdrive4500 don't know about lucid, but Rivian falling short of expectations does not equal dead, it just means less than hoped. They still made twice as many electric trucks as Ford. I completely agree with Dobsonimages. In the United States it’s an absolute waste of your money and an unreliable, anxiety ridden experience to try and travel in anything other than a Tesla. If you don’t drive more than 200 miles round trip ever then knock yourself out and get any non Tesla out there. CCS DC fast charging (at least 150kwh) in the USA is a joke. I have 61,000 miles on a Volvo XC 40 recharge as a company electric pilot program vehicle and I have a territory that is two hours to the north in two hours to the south of me. I charge once or twice a day and the reliability is a nightmare not to mention there’s usually only four charging stalls instead of 8 to 12 to 14 to 24 like Tesla, so you’re competing with the growing market of non-tesla EV’s with chargers that are unreliable and don’t work half the time.

It's not range anxiety its charge anxiety. It's only a little bit of planning required for a long journey as long as the charger is available when you get there. I do a 220 mile journey with a 193 miles car. don't travel 180 miles before a planned charge, ill do about 100 miles, stop for a comfort break, say about 30 minutes and put in about 80 miles of charge. Job done, no stress. If it's not possible and the first break, I have 93 miles of range to stop for a top up.

not true, i went santa anna texas the first of the year, santa anna is about halfway between interstates 20 and 10, about 70 miles from each, the closest superchargers were on those interstates, about 70 miles away. santa anna has a population of 100,000 with the nearest supercharger 70 miles away,. there were also no level 3 CCS1 chargers in santa anna. doing a google search i found there 5 CCS1 level 2 chargers in town. the first 2 i tried i was not able to get the car and the charger to communicate. the next one i tried i was able to charge the first time, not the next 2, then an employee said it seemed to be up and down and they were thinking of calling for service. dont know if they ever did. i was able to do some 120 charging, not much. there are still EV desserts out there, even in the US.

They copy the old app 'A better route planner' It reads your car's SOC from OBD2 port using special dongle and based on make, model, capacity and State of charge plots your drive and charging stops. The free version doesn't have OBD2 integration, so you need to tell it what your SOC is and it estimates your energy consumption. Not very reliable, but better then nothing.

The only cars I know of with a built in google system is the Polestars.. who else even has access to that app? Uh.. dude.. the Chevy Bolts MAX out at 50kw charging speed. They're pure crap for fast charging and long distance drives. Perfectly fine for a in city car.. not much else unless you enjoy miserably long wait times. I have no reason why a Tesla driver would need this added when Tesla already provides this. I mean, they use google maps.. but adding whatever this google EV app is to it would be completely redundant.

That is all well and good. But one of the most urgent issues needs to be around regulating OEMs to manufacture cars that “talk to each other.” It’s inevitable and necessary and needs to happen asap. The conversation around that needs to start. Just like seatbelts were regulated into all vehicle manufacturing, the same thing needs to happen with electronics that allows cars to “talk to each other.“ it’s inevitable.
